And my advice is when leveling your first toon in Northrend don't use Quest Helping add-ons. If you feel really stuck then pop WoWhead. I have always enjoyed my first char without quest helping to enjoy the content the designers have produced and not just too look on the numbers ticking above for xp. Of course when I level an alt I usually follow some guide to get it going faster.  Wink

Mm, true, depends on if you're just wanting to get to 80 or you want to enjoy it.

Different strokes for different folks.

I started out trying to enjoy the content, got bored after Dragonblight, then just tried powerleveling through, realized I couldn't, so enjoyed going through the levels till I was 77... then got cold weather training XD the levels seem to just melt away after that.

That's why they didn't allow flying from start so you don't jump skim along. And to what some ppl say enjoying yourself you can still lvl fast. I leveled from 70-80 in around a lil bit over 26 hours. Without any quest help and while finishing all quests in Fiord / Dragonblight and Grizzly Hills, I dinged in the middle of ZulDrak. So I was doing not the optimum level quests for me and still leveled pretty fast. I was surprised a bit how fast this was. 3 days of 5-6 hours play and one night of 10 hours.

I got very very bored at about 74, I just wanted to hit 80 so I could start raiding with the rest of my guild, we had a good core of 80s after about a week, I got to about 72-74 after a week.  I level slow, eurgh.

I dinged 80 in Zul'drak only cause I didn't go to howling Fjord till i was 78. and a bunch of the quests were grey.
Though being able to fly around for the quests makes it SO EASY!!!!!!!!!

I just started raiding, and i must say i love it.... but also hate it....
DKP points are shitty!

Btw my guild is suffering now due to the lack to dkp... It got ppl soft. We worked with rolls and prio only to tanks and in Naxx 10 man it worked but 10 man Naxx is lol-raiding. We try to progress to Malygos now and people don't put no effort. They think Ulduar will be the new Naxx but it is gonna be hard or at least I hope so. So me and the other GM will introduce dkp soon so people that don't show on the Malygos attempts will get left behind cause those that show on time will get dkp even if we are short to do trys. So the regular players that put effort will have edge for items in Ulduar.

Except someone who's new to the guild has to do 3 weeks worth of 10 man naxx to get any DKP points up so that they can have a chance to bid on items.  I was lucky when i did my first few runs with my new guild the Pally shoulders and helm dropped and no one else needed it so i got it for minimum, but when i tried to get the pally mace (well not specifically pally, but very good for Holy Pallys) that drops off KT in 25 man i was out rolled by the top priest in the guild cause she had.... 400+ more DKP points than me and i have no chance of out bidding her.

Also I've been offline for a week so i've lost all that time to gain any DKP which means that I will be even further behind.
And don't even get me started on the fact that it goes by Account not character... which means you can run 3 characters through Naxx get iono... 200 from each character and have a sweet 600 DKP easily outbidding any single character player.  Which my GM did on another item i was interested in.

*note* i am realise that this makes me sound hateful of my guildies, its quite the opposite they welcomed me quite nicely when i joined, i just don't like the DKP system and how it works.  Also i am trying to get my thoughts out before my laptop battery dies....

DKP has its benefits and its drawbacks, you said you lost to the top priest... well you should've, she was int he guild before you and she needed it because it was an upgrade to her.  Unless of course she was rolling on it for offspec, if she was rolling for it for main spec, then you should've lost.  Gear should go to those that have been there the longest (in other words, have been loyal to the guild longer, but I'll get to that story in a little bit) and have put forth the effort.

it depends on the guild how DKP is done, if you dont' raid for a week and lose all of your DKP, that's a little retarded... but /shrug.. whatever you prefer in a guild.

The guild I'm in uses DKP and it caps out at 100, so a person can get like two pieces of gear a run.  They changed it sometime ago to where you whisper the raidleader or the second-in-charge (when the raid leader is bidding for the item too) your bid of DKP and whoever is the highest gets the item.  I dont' really like how it's done now but I don't raid much anymore so it doesn't really affect me.

Now the story I was talking about... I'll address with a WoW comic:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/community/comics/gallery.html#16

DKP is there to keep people that just joined a guild from taking gear in a week or two then gquitting to join a better guild.  It comes down to being fair to all versus trust... personally I favor fair to all over trust because you can have some pretty deceiving people...

I was looking for a crit rating calculator on my priest to see how much crit percentage I received from brilliant wizard oil.

I found this very amazingly useful website.

Posting for anyone else that wants a calculator for just about anything.

There are also graphs to show what rating you need at what level for whatever percentage.

Rather amazing and a very clean and easy-to-navigate site.

Mods are prone to breaking though... and I already have a bazillion, I'm trying to cut back to the minimal.

and a picture of my priest's UI... tends to stay similar... shadow priest is the toon I've been playing the most lately

Very nice if you have the bad habit to cluster loads of addons...

...until recently I still was running on 15'' lcd so I had limited space that thought me to be efficient in what ui addons I use and how best to optimize them Cheesy

A few years ago I would've needed something like that cause my UI was HORRIBLE... I was just getting used to having add-ons and didn't really know totally what I could do with them.  about a year ago I finally built something I liked (above) ...

The problem isn't space though, it's memory.  One of the reasons for my quitting-raid is when I try to run 25 Naxx, or anything 25, I start out at around 15-25 FPS, which is doable, I can raid in that.  Sometime during the raid it goes down to 1-2 FPS, and I CAN'T raid in that, my DPS seriously suffers... I could be in the top 5 DPS, but because of FPS lag I'm down to the top 10 or 15.  So, I'm holding out on getting new mods.

While my guild is a little more graceful than my preference, I can't stand it when I can't do my best and I know I could do so much better and officers are complaining about DPS not being up to par.  So... I took a leave of absence till I could do something about it, probly will be longer than I want htough.

I tried setting up a much simpler UI, one that shouldn't take as hard a toll on my system but I haven't got the chance to test it and I don't want to drop in the middle of a raid because it effs up...

Just turn off all addons that give out-side of raid information. Leave only the stuff you need for raiding right before the raid start: meters / boss mods / class mods / unitframes...

I have noticed that some SCT profiles become very heavy on 25 man set ups. It is my prime suspect for low fps in my runs. Other is spell effect quality. So I usually put performance profile on SCT and decrease spell detail almost to lowest - 1 slide to right is enough to see Void Zones etc.
