well i was planing on buying a Macbook with 2 GB DDR2 a 667 MHz - 2 x 1 GB SO-DIMMs and  Hard drive Serial ATA  200 GB (4.200 rpm)

I'm on my way to my second year of art school and 2 years away from University and i'm gonna use the macbook to replace my current PC a toshiba satellite...

and i was wondering what programs and tools do you use to draw? i know u use photoshop so i can have photoshop on the macbook...and what else...

i'm now starting my dream of drawing and i want to edit some comics in my country namely Portugal... and even do a webcomic....

i want to know what do i need to buy with my mac...

i also PM you but you never answered...

i also wanted to ask you some drawing tips for a beginner... i love all your styles the more realistic one and the comic one... i really like them allot...

i'm 17 how much time do you think it will take me to be at least half as good as you?

i need to follow my dream ever since i was a little kid a saw my uncle drawing...and it amazed me how he could create stories characters and make a world for the to live in...create all kinds of stuff... make ppl fly make dogs talk...have adventures and many more...just with a paper sheet and a pencil...it just amazed me... now i'm older and i have to do this... i've been waiting for this dream to go away like many others have...but this one stayed and what i want more then anything is to be able to create my comic, my world my adventure!

i know its kinda silly... but hey i'm kinda silly... and this is what i want to live for...

help me out Hawk please...

Hi, i am no hawk but i can give you some tips and data.
Hawk also uses Illustrator and a drawing software called sketch book pro, he has a cintiq, you can have a wacom cuz a cintiq is rather expensive.
And the most important thing for you to be better drawing, is the practice

Cintiq is an onscreen tablet pretty much.  A tablet you'll draw on the surface, and it shows up on your monitor, a Cintiq ... it's like the monitor, but you draw on the same surface as well.  Think of it as digital paper.

Cintiq is around 2000 dollars or so... a tablet is much much cheaper.

Just so you know, Wacom MAKES the Cintiq... Wacom is a company, a brand, not a type of drawing surface, that would be a tablet, or a Graphire or Intuos, etc.

For graphics work, the Macbook lacks.  While, yes, it will suffice, but it won't do everything you'll want.

The MacBook is essentially for students needing a laptop for school... it does everything you would need in that case, but beyond that, you'll run into trouble.

If money's an issue, you could try looking for an older G4, or G5 considering they're older and probly will go for cheaper... the only thing the MacBook has over those is the processor, but a G5 would have a much better video card in it than the MacBook (it's on-board).  Plus, RAM would be somewhat of a problem as the MacBook is a tad limited.

As you said in your first post.

...

I'll let someone explain it to you that has more knowledge in the area, but PS and Illustrator require a bit more than you think... like I said, a MacBook would suffice, but if you were to edit, draw, etc. in such programs, it would run slooooow.

As a person whose done both on a macbook habitiually, I can say that this is true....

...if you keep the RAM stock. XD

Upgrade the RAM, but if you're doings this professionally, a Macbook Pro wouldn't hurt at all.

I run 1 GB and my laptop has yet to fail me (knock on wood)

2 gigs should be fine. Especially since CS3's intel, so it's all speedy now.

Especially since he just got off a stint for drawing for Fred AND this comic.
