Invincibility is absolute. Security is relative.

It would make a good benchmark application...

I wonder if you can download it.

I saw that one, but I really want to find the Mac version. Smiley

Profesional gamer ... I can think of worse jobs. Grin

lol yeah i know.... you'd have to be really really really good though....

like being kicked from online servers cause they could have sworn you cheat good..... lolz

unless you piss off an admin, chances are you'll never get kicked out from a game unless they detect that you're really cheating.

Bullshit, and I know 'cuz it's happened to me (not to brag, but apparently the admin was a noob, so he thought I was cheating. I can't help it if I was having a good day and was getting headshots x_x)

It really depends on the type of admin you have anyway.

Also, spending more than 400 bucks on a gaming rig actually can be worth it, that is, if you're using it as MORE than a gaming rig.  Those rigs have some of the best hardware, and because of that, can be used for many more intensive processes like rendering in 3D (Maya, 3DS Max), rendering in 2D (Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter), or working in film or sound.  That's what I'm planning on doing with my roommates next semester; since they're game designers and I like playing CS and Starcraft, we're gonna build a pretty robust workstation, and have it double as a gaming rig as well.  Paying 5,000 dollars for a gaming rig is an extortionate waste, I'll give you that, but I think 400 is a little meager.  But that's just me.

Personally i find that my old pc rig that i had before i got a mac is fine for gaming so if i relly have to ill use that otherwise i play the games that work on mac or i use my xbox or playstation.

game companies are starting to focus on console gaming (mainly cause its a little harder to get illeagal copies via downlaoding i believe and that way they get more cash) so i game on consoles.

its good enough.

I guess it boils down oddly.  All of my friends play computers games. WoW, RTS games.. yadda yadda.

But I grew up on Quake Team Fortress.. sure I had a nintendo and a Sega, and I played the hell outta them, but nothing was as fun as playing online games.  I've dropped 2.5k on my tower last year.. it does everything I want.. and then some.  It does my school work and plays games (mainly games for now).  I future proofed it.  I just enjoying playing computer games.  I like building the tower, installing everything and walking into a computer game shop and say 'Yea, i can run anything you have.'  Makes me feel all warm inside.

I do agree that 5 grand is overkill, any company that makes towers for 5 grand you can build for 2500.  I should know, I did Tongue .

I seriously think 2500 is the cutoff limit, and this is all just change I saved up over five years of using my old tower.  Which, I gave to my brother.

I'm not a console gamer, I play smash brothers.  I enjoy side scrolls like Sonic and Mario, I can't get into RPG (mario paper excluded) on consoles.  I bought a Wii for the sole purpose of getting Smash Brothers then it comes out.. in the next 208342109 years.   Although Full Metal Slug is perhaps one of the best games of all time.

I do however feel that the time of the computer gamer is starting to come to a close.  Most of the good companies have been absorbed into major corporations.  I can name four big players off the top of my list that I believe can churn out hit titles.  Three of them can do at will.
1. Blizzard (WoW/Starcraft2... its like money in the bank before the bank opens..)
2. Vivendi (Valve)  Need I say more?
3. THQ: the spiritual successor to Blizzard when it comes to RTS games.. however MR. SC:2 is gonna drop the hammer
4. E.A.:  Only a few of their titles are smash hits for the PC but they can still do it.  Their BF franchise and their C&C franchise.

They are the last big players... I don't even accredit ID games anymore.  When ET:Quakewars gets out, we will see though.

Most of the companies are having their games bought and force ports to console, Halo to name one.  Then two years later we get those games on PC.  I wish Fable 2 has a PC port to start off, ill tell ya that much.

But when you look at it, Doom/Quake/WoW/HL.. these are the benchmarks that most games made today have to live up to. Its the computer gaming industry that set the standard.

In the end, people who drop money on PCs are keeping alive a dream to some extent.  We want to sit down at a keyboard, with a mouse, and play till our heart is content with our friends.  The consoles, in my opinion, just seem colder.   I also feel Microsoft is trying to kill the PC gaming market.

I'll stop my rather long rant, its been a while since I've spoken so much.  Now, let the games begin.

OH also, at the end of this, I got my friend to get a Mac.. were going to buy his MacBook tomorrow.. one more convert added to the pile!

Umm, before anyone goes oh lordy he is a freak.  I'm working on two degrees, one in Networking Operations and another in Comp electronics and service technician.

Theres really no point in spending anything above £800 ($400) on PC hardware for gamming (excluding peripherals/OS). For one thing, if you spend it right that will get you a powerful enougth machine to run anything on the current market (and for a number of months to come) on max detail settings.

I spent about £750;  got me a 2D2 E6600, branded CUP cooler, 2 Gig Ram, GF8800, Windowed case with a half dosen neon fans, etc.

The other thing is that if you spend more then that, high-end tech can depreciate so quickly in value that its quite a poor investment. Your better off saving that money to upgrade sooner then trying to future-proof.

As for Macs and gaming; if you use a Mac for all your computing needs its not a bad idea. But with respect to the Apple fans, you'll get much better value for technology buying a PC for your PC Gaming needs. It really comes down to what else you plan to use it for.

Yeah, I might have noticed that.  Wink

But I was questioning his second point, the point where he brought consolds into the argument. Which is a bit of a mute argument really, because the retail prices for consolds go up and down across Europe, and in seval contries peak above britain.

And consolds normally go cheaper in parts of Asia then they do in America, so arn't you guys being ripped off too?  Tongue

And lastly, the question I should have asked is not can you can compare consold with PC gaming, but is it any sort of fair comparison to make?

And the answer to that is of course, no.

Of course consold tech is cheaper then PC tech; if it wasn't there would be no point in buying a consold. But a colsold is at the end of the day a specalised machine, useful only for gaming, while PCs can do a multitude of other things.

And of course, theres the type of game you find on them. Your never likely to find a good port of Armed Assault on the Xbox 360.
