Halo 2, Kingdom Hearts, FF7, Katamari Damacy (< if it doesn't drive you insane... which it will).

Katamari Damacy drove me insane, or at least further into the depths of the rabbit hole.

I'll say Chrono Cross. Especially the intro music, just fantastic.
Was wondering when somebody would bring up Chrono Trigger/Cross. Always loved the sound track.

The Unreal Tournaments have pretty damn good hard rock soundtracks that I really enjoyed. Starcraft brings back some nostalgia, though I prefer Warcraft 3's Russian styled chorus.

The lyrics for Warcraft III were in Latin, and were available for a short time, but have since been rescinded. If anyone can find a trace of them...

Final Fantasy music tends to be really nice and moody. We're also big fans of Zelda music (which is currently playing off our laptop right now).

And, as oddballs, we also really enjoy the music of Okami.

EVERY Sonic the Hedgehog (platform) for Sega Genesis.

yes, I went there.

The Dreamcast games weren't bad either and I haven't played the newer ones apart from Sonic Rivals 2.  I'm also a fan of Loco Roco, Chu Chu Rocket, Halo 1-3 and Need for Speed Underground.  Smiley

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core has some pretty awesome music in it.

I also agree with what others have said over the Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy (VII, VIII & X) series.

Can't remember the Chrono Cross music, will have to play that again sometime, IIRC as someone said the intro music is awesome.

A classic is Hell March from Red Alert - we used to listen to that all the time playing LAN games on the laptops my Dad brought home from work back in 95/96/97. Smiley

BF2 doesn't really have a soundtrack but I do like the intro music for the few seconds you can A) hear it and B) it actually lasts. Tongue

In relation to what haunted_i asked about music changing depending on the current situation doesn't ... Damn can't remember the game I was thinking of lol.

Yes, a 50-piece orchestra beats synth any day. You could really... feel it more, especially during scenes like when Forward Unto Dawn landed on the Ark.

I don't play Crysis, but I have the soundtrack now. It's great for playing other action games.

Haven't heard the Crysis ST apart from what I've played of Crysis, but that was something I was going to ask...

What music do people listen to while playing games?

For me CSS needs some decent music preferably from other games in most cases as it is more action oriented and better paced. (This will be moved to a new topic if it warrants it)

Devil May Cry 2 I thought was very a very well done soundtrack.

I may be dating myself here, but the Zelda series has always performed well with music.

Also, I don't see anyone mentioning this, but the music for World of Warcraft is excellent.  So far (for those that play) the Northrend music is excellent.  WoW is the first mmo I find myself not listening to my own music rather than in game music.  I think it fits very well with the zone feel.

And, of course the obligatory FF response Wink
