WTF! Windows is bloody stupid!
This is news?  ... although they do seem to have risen to new heights with this one.

... in order for the flaw to be exploited the speech recognition feature would need to be activated and configured and both microphone and speakers would have to be switched on.

Gee golly gosh, how often could THAT happen?

Never mind a malicious audio file, what about a malicious little sibling who has a temper tantrum and screams "I wish I could delete all your files!!!"

Granted, it would be a huge help to people with limited hand mobility, but the risks don't seem to have been properly addressed.

You know, with the recognition accuracy rates I've seen from their speech recognition, I'd say that 'scripting'/voicing a virus for their system which would actually work as intended would be pretty difficult.

Does anybody remember 'Dear aunt lets so double the killer delete select all'?

I love how embarrassed and worried the guy gets when it doesn't work.

He knew in advance Microsoft would try to pin it on him, instead of accept their product was crap. And he was sweating.

I don't know about you, but I feel a lot better after the release of Vista.

The hype was pretty intense, but it boiled down to pretty little in the way of real updates.

Edit:

And the security? We've allready had 14 viruses/exploits specific to Vista. Here's the latest:

It just wants confirmation for everything, as though an attacker would want to cause harm to you by changing your desktop background. (although I'm sure there are ways, it isn't a terribly critical one.)

Besides the annoyance, it doesn't even ask you for a password! What use is it?

Yeah, so if you want to, say, select 15 files from your desktop and delete them all, it brings up a separate confirmation dialog for each and every file, with no "Apply to All" option, one dialog at a time. It's so goddamn annoying and useless.

Speaking of which, Apple makes fun of this annoyance in their latest ad!

I think it works because it is obviously true.

Sadly, that agent doesn't appear to be doing a very good job:

LOLZ!

Wow, And Ol' Billy was talking smack about OSX vulnerabilities? Dang, Vista Retail hasn't been out for a week and it's already getting smacked.

I think the current count of viruses specific to vista is about 10 - 15, but because many of the news articles are about viruses people say they have, but won't show anyone, there are probably more.

Yeah, M$ needs to cut the fat.

I think thats the main cause of all their instability and insecurity, too. One of these days they should go back to basics and recode the kernel from scratch - not an easy task, but easy enough if they don't try to be a jack of all trades like they did with Vista.

That seemed to only affect RC1.

I've got Vista Business loaded on my machine, and the only times it asks me to confirm are when I install a program, try to open an unknown .exe file, change a system level preference, or uninstall a piece of software.

Moving files doesn't provoke UAC confirmation, nor does changing your wallpaper.
