I like that response. If the claim of being a religion of peace is to be a legitimate one, a peaceful response is good and one that make hostility look silly, golden.

*sigh* i knew this was gonna happen as soon as i saw the Ramadan comic.((which i might add is my favorite))

Everyone on the left says Islam is a religion of peace, heck even nearly everyone on the right says its a religion of peace. But where are the Muslim protesters when 911 happened? Where are they when the car bombs go off, when things go boom((the times they are caused by muslims)) i have never seen a group of any kind proving just how peaceful muslims can be. I wish i could root for that group, but i have yet too see them. All i hear is how they talk, now i want to see how they walk.

And they have the right to be suspicious considering how many 'terror attacks' have been committed in the name of 'Allah'. Seriously i am hard pressed to find a conflict without islamic influence in it. ((not the positive kind))  Sad The only ones i can think of are all taking place in asia, like N. and S. Korea.
Like i said, we have a right to be suspicious of those kind of people. If you think we shouldn't, show us, don't tell us.

People always think of "middle Americans" as ignorant hicks, mainly because they aren't as "cultured" as people like the ones living on the east/west coast. Is it because we believe in "God", we think murdering babies is wrong?, or because we disagree with you? Huh

And 10-1 this post might get deleted due to 'hate speech' or 'religious intolerance'. That shows what your made of. And no doubt this is gonna get ridiculed.

Just like with anything (almost anything), the stuff you see in the media is the bad side of things for the most part. You hardly see the good stuff happening. For example, when you read about people's laptop's exploding, it's all over the news. What you don't see covered is all the laptops that are fine and how small a percentage the ones that have blown up are.

And please, don't harp on people not walking the walk because you don't know that people haven't tried. We get shot down whenever we try (personal experience). You don't see that on the news (surprise, surprise).

I agree... There have been many so called "christian" fanatics that have killed many people with bombings, mass-suicides, etc. (Waco, anyone?) But I've never heard that the entire Christian religion is to blame for these acts of violence. How can those that criticize the Muslim religion call them on those acts of terrorism done by fanaticals and not call out the Christians on thier fanatical's violent fervor as well? I'm a christian, but I highly condemn those that blame the entire muslim religion over what a few crazed fanatics have done in the name of that religion.

Hawk's brother BatmanPPC addressed this, but I really have to put in my two cents. Car bombs? When was the last time a Muslim set off a car bomb in the United States? Are you talking about Iraq? You're talking in abstractions and vagaries - can you be more specific? When, where?

And they have the right to be suspicious considering how many 'terror attacks' have been committed in the name of 'Allah'. Seriously i am hard pressed to find a conflict without islamic influence in it. ((not the positive kind))  Sad The only ones i can think of are all taking place in asia, like N. and S. Korea.

I'm not Muslim, but first of all - don't put 'Allah' in quotes. It's patronizing.

And show you? There are plenty of Muslim organizations out there trying to get things done - but are they getting media exposure? Not at all. There was a commentary that ran in the Middle East Times a little while ago about it: http://www.metimes.com/storyview.php?StoryID=20051209-042227-3029r

And some Muslims, I imagine, are just trying to stay out of the public eye because they feel threatened. When we were in Vietnam, did you see Vietnamese communists holding protests? Hell no, they ducked their heads and tried to stay out of the spotlight.

People always think of "middle Americans" as ignorant hicks, mainly because they aren't as "cultured" as people like the ones living on the east/west coast. Is it because we believe in "God", we think murdering babies is wrong?, or because we disagree with you? Huh

If someone calls you an ignorant hick, then tell me. Once is a warning, twice is a banning offense. We don't condone name-calling anywhere on this forum. And as for murdering babies, I'd say any religion in the world - Christianity and Islam included - doesn't allow murdering anyone - babies included.

And 10-1 this post might get deleted due to 'hate speech' or 'religious intolerance'. That shows what your made of. And no doubt this is gonna get ridiculed.

Don't be melodramatic. You have an opinion and that's fine, but if you're going to post it here you'd better be ready to defend it.

hawk, have i told you lately that i love you, 'cause i do.

i swear if obama runs for president, i'm gonna register to vote, just for him. i've been waiting for someone like that to come around. he'd do good for this stupid country.

in all honesty i'm not that thrilled with obama, i don't think he is bad and i dont think he is good. i also don't think he can win mostly because he doesn't bring anything new to the table. and if you are gonna run for president and not be a WASP then you better bring something new to the table. all that aside though i think what worried me the most about your above satement is that you are not currently registered to vote.

i just find that disappointing. in this country we trumpet free speech above almost everything else, and for one to feel free to be vocal in a web based community and yet choose to be silent in an arena where every vote truly does count just makes me sad. i'm not trying to offend just wondering why you would choose to support the majority (the true effect of one who remains neutral).

It's always been my thought that taking the actions of terrorists and equating them with the Muslim faith is like taking the actions of the KKK and equating them with the Christian faith. I'm pretty sure that your average Christian would not be supportive of the KKK going off on a lynching run, so why is it that 'acts of terrorism' are seen by a lot of Americans as something to use to damn the Muslim faith? Because a lot of Americans don't want to make the distinction, they just want to hate and place blame. It's a lot easier to say "The hell with them, they're not like us, we got the Bomb, lets just blow 'em all to hell and call it good," than it is to take the time to educate yourself so that you don't end up sounding like an ignorant douchebag, let alone trying a little tolerance and understanding with a dash of compassion and love for your fellow humans.

It's a pretty small planet, when you get right down to it. We're not getting any younger. Somehow, somewhere, someone needs to open a dialogue with someone of a different faith, or race, or ideology or what-have-you and learn from them, about them, and start trying to live together more peacefully. I think that you don't have the right to hate if you haven't made the effort to love.

I would just like to say that that is the best analogy I have seen in a while.

Have you noticed that th3soulreaper's comments of intolerance were met with equally intolerant and condescending comments?

NorthAI...
I assume that comment was directed as an attack at me. If that is the case any quotes will be useless. You will defend points till the bitter end, I'm assuming of course. If you want to have an intelligent and non-partial conversation with be, you are more than welcome to. But this is not the place. If you still want to discuss the topic, email me and I'll be more than happy to.

Wow - you're being a bit defensive there. I think NorthAI is perfectly justified in asking you to quote some of the supposed intolerant and condescending remarks, and in no way did it come out as "an attack" as you say.  th3soulreaper made some ignorant and intolerant comments that could certainly have brought out some very negative, angry comments -- personally, I think everyone did an admirable job keeping their cool.

I certainly didn't notice that, and I would doubt that anyone else did either.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled. Meeting someone point for point doesn't constitute intolerance. And asking for proof doesn't constitute an attack. If there was actual name-calling involved, then that's another story, but defending your own opinion and asking people to back up theirs is the basis of any debate or discussion.

I agree with him though. The AG Lite forum is not the place for this discussion.
Got a little hot-blooded, and went off on my trademark rants (not so much on AG forums, but I am known for them other places).

As long as the discussion is kept level-headed I don't see why this isn't the place for it. After all, it was the content of the comic itself that sparked it off. Forums are meant for intellectual debate, discussion and the general sharing of ideas after all.  Grin
