In all seriousness, I reckon this comic (AG in its entirety) should be required reading for students in Middle America... shows that young Muslims in America aren't all hung up on Jihad, just on boobies and Macs  Wink

Hawk, I confess that I'm suspicious of you and around 300 million other people "just like you".  It's all those nukes, you see.  I live just on the other side of Lake Ontario, and sometimes I feel just too close for comfort to all those Americans.

It's a joke, folks.  Get a grip...

I got the joke, I thought it was delightful, and horribly apt, unfortunately. It surprises me how bass-ackwards the American Bigotry Machine truly is, and the fact that it is still powered up and moving forward in 2007. I was born in california and lived there for 25 years, then spent 5 in Oregon (oh how I miss thee, Sweet Land of Beautiful Boobies!), and somehow ended up on the border of Iowa and Illinois for the last 8. I do have to say that the majority of the people in Oregon were enlightened and mostly bigotry-free (oh how I long for the day when people will just be seen as individuals, and not as Member Z of Race Y or Religion X or Sexual Orientation X or gender W, etc.)  I like to call this little slice of the midwest 'Gehenna Flats', as it closely resembles Hell when comparing the general train of thought to my own. Of course, in doing this, I also succumb to the Bigotry Machine, do I not? The only pride that I have in living here is that it's currently home to Mr. Obama (who I pray will run for Presidential Office in 2008) and that the Bears are having a relatively good few years in the NFL, and I've been able to see a few of the games.

The people here are pretty close-minded... I've heard people say that Obama is a Muslim and a Cokehead, as well as a (the woman actually used this word; where the fuck am I, 1940's Germany?) Darkie. Might as well throw the N-bomb at that point, lady, you'd only be slightly more offensive at that point. I've watched people engage my friend Tim in political discussion, and actually say to him, "You know, so-and-so is pro-gay-marriage, and that's just awful." Tim is very tall, very black, and very gay. It's not something that you don't notice. And I love him for it, and wouldn't want him to be any different than he is. He's who he is. That's why I enjoy his company. Not that I wouldn't like him any less if he were white and hetero...he's just Tim. I think that's my point.

I love America for the Freedoms that I still have to enjoy, but it appalls me that the American Bigotry Machine can be so goddamned vulgar, offensive, insensitive and callous towards those that aren't Republican - Heterosexual - Christian - Caucasian - Upper-Class. And who in the hell gave us all the Nukes, anyways? This shit terrifies me. My daughter has to grow up in this country, and that shit terrifies me even more.

For the record, if I were to define myself as anything, it would be 'a member of the human race,' although trying to say that with a straight face to a polar bear these days would probably bring me a lot of shame.

I know. None of that was coherent. Sorry. I get kinda angry over this stuff, and don't know to verbalize it properly. I just wanted to say that I loved the strip. . . and that it both infuriated me and made me laugh.

First off, good comic.

I always feel a bit weird when it is them against us in politics.
This specific instance feels so very wrong as if having a certain believe makes you less worth then having an other religion. (Germany 1930's till 1945 anyone?)

*sigh* i knew this was gonna happen as soon as i saw the Ramadan comic.((which i might add is my favorite))

Everyone on the left says Islam is a religion of peace, heck even nearly everyone on the right says its a religion of peace. But where are the Muslim protesters when 911 happened? Where are they when the car bombs go off, when things go boom((the times they are caused by muslims)) i have never seen a group of any kind proving just how peaceful muslims can be. I wish i could root for that group, but i have yet too see them. All i hear is how they talk, now i want to see how they walk.

And they have the right to be suspicious considering how many 'terror attacks' have been committed in the name of 'Allah'. Seriously i am hard pressed to find a conflict without islamic influence in it. ((not the positive kind))  Sad The only ones i can think of are all taking place in asia, like N. and S. Korea.
Like i said, we have a right to be suspicious of those kind of people. If you think we shouldn't, show us, don't tell us.

People always think of "middle Americans" as ignorant hicks, mainly because they aren't as "cultured" as people like the ones living on the east/west coast. Is it because we believe in "God", we think murdering babies is wrong?, or because we disagree with you? Huh

And 10-1 this post might get deleted due to 'hate speech' or 'religious intolerance'. That shows what your made of. And no doubt this is gonna get ridiculed.

What would Obama do for this country? How are we stupid? ((wait a second i called this country stupid just today with the criminals getting amnesty for work, yeah i'm talking about the illegal immigrants))
But considering your earlier statements i don't think your on the same road as me.

I thank the Godess I don't live in America. I would probably be burned on the stake. A Wiccan Dyke with "opinions" wouldn't survive long over on that side of the pond.

Oh, and rawking comic as usual H&A.

By the way th3soulreaper, you are the reason the world aren't moving forward anymore. Technology keeps getting better, and so is science. But with that kind of attitude the people themselves are standing at a standstill.

Anyone condemning ANY religion due to the actions of a few misguided (okay, batshit crazy) people aren't really thinking things through. I don't mind Christians at all, even though the Vatican is responsible for some of the most horrifying crimes against humanity in the past. Crusades, both in the Holy Land in hell, even one crusade that never left france. (The slaughter of the Katars [no, I don't know how the Katars is spelled/pronounced in english] for one). Christians are nice people, mostly. So are every muslim I know, even though they are few and far between.

I judge people on their actions and opinions, not on the color of their skin or their belief. And your opinions don't speak highly of yourself at the moment.

Ow, and the reason America is stupid, is that 90% of what we outsiders get to see of America is unbridled, frothing at the mouth, idiocy. I blame the media.

Assumptions first: Ananth Is Not a Muslim.

Post: What's even more frghtening is that Ananth himself will get stared at - because, to us Gweilos (Cantonese for 'Foreign Ghost') he looks no different to Hawk and, hey, if Hawk's a Muslim, isn't Ananth one too?

I happen to have a Bangladeshi Muslim as my research partner; we're both doing work for the same steel company. He's one of the most gentle people I've ever met and our supervisor at the plant - a candidate for 'redneck' status, if one was to look at his appearance alone - has accepted him wholeheartedly and is extremely pleased at the work he's done. The rest of the plant workers, management and crew alike, have the same attitude.

all i'm gonna tell you is i find barack obama to be a wonderful man who will hopefully bring greatly needed change to this country.
i'm not gonna even bother trying to explain anymore of my feelings to you since you seem set in your ways, as am i.

Just a head's up that if there's some heated talking in here (as it seems quite common with political-based threads) I'll be locking this thread without a second thought. So just keep that in mind Wink

I don't like politics, as they always seem to bring out the worst in people.
That aside, Hawk's reaction in the comic is the best response ever.  Grin

I'm sorry but perhaps you should read this article that Ananth posted quite a while ago. I'm not downpouring on your opinion, but I suggest doing some research before you dabble about such things.

It's not just "middle Americans" who aren't cultured enough. Did you know we're so backward in Hawaii we don't even have internet here? Honest.

Seriously though, faith isn't the problem. Religion is. And I'm serious. I'm not knocking your beliefs, or you, but i've had to restrain myself many times in my relatively short life from hitting people who cant give a better response than that the bible says it's wrong. Why is it wrong to you? Because someone else says so is never a good enough reason. People need to think for themselves.

Besides, it's not just "middle America" who's paranoid. There're plenty of "smart" American's from the East/West coast who feel exactly the same way (i'm from the tri-state area originally). It's just easier to point the finger elsewear. Sound familiar?
