P.S- Slipknot sucks ass.

Agreed.

I'll check out those aformentioned bands you suggested. Opeth particularly, only because I've heard a little more about them, and they sound good.

Yes, somebody else knows about Immortal Tech!

Ok so my friend just sent me this song called Light of Day, Day of Darkness by a band called Green Carnation. It's really good. Another progressive metal band/song. The catch to the song is that it's 60 minutes long. The whole album was actually just that one song. It's really good, it changes a lot but still revolving around the same overall theme, and in the middle there's a break with a female vocal solo backed up my middle eastern like instrument.

I personally prefer Avenged Sevenfold's Waking the Fallen cd.

As for other music that isn't nu/metal/death/screamo etc, for some funky, "modern" 80s electronica stuff, Shiny Toy Guns is pretty good. Some of their lyrics make no sense to me, but, *Shrugs* a lot of bands have lyrics that are ... unusual.

I also like Imogen Heap, which is more...I can't even describe it. She has a unique. soft voice, with interesting lyrics. I don't want to say she's Indie, but, she kind of is. If you like stuff along the lines of Iron & Wine, Incubus, and...Frou Frou ((which Imogen Heap is one half of- the vocalist)), you'll love Imogen Heap.

And just to toss some techno in there, Freezepop and Daft Punk. *Nod*

Ok..well movie away from the metal stuff then. I just saw Requiem for a Dream for the first time and the soundtrack is amazing. So for the past couple of days I've been listening to that. Awesome stuff

Rammstein: They have a huge range in their music. They can sound industrial, rock, soft and sweet, --- but ALWAYS unique. However...some of their lyrics will seem strange to a lot of you once they're translated
Yes, definitely. Considering most of my favourites have already been recommended, I'm going to go ahead and re-recommend this one. Yes, it is in german, and the lyrics aren't -too- strange. Nothing you wouldn't expect from a band with that style. If you ar elooking for heavy, do check out Rammstein. Awesome for exercising.

Y'know, if you don't mind songs with almost gay inuendos, killing people, burying people alive, necrophilia...

*Laughs*

Hm. OH!

The Bloodhound Gang. Because they make me laugh with their sophmoric lyrics.

Currently have the song Discovery stuck in my head.

Doesn't disturb me cause it's in German, and since my German is rather rusty, I shrug it off and listen to the groove. This is why I laugh at the people who claim that certain kinds of music can be evil, but anyway, we're getting off topic.

Another one of my preferable bands is Nickelback, cept I doubt some of you would like it.

how does that compare to the likes of massive attack/lamb/portishead/morcheeba? i might well be interested. infact, more interested if it's more like crystal method, or even prodigy or pendulum. i'd just like to know more because i'm trying to get away from the whole naughtly downloading thing Wink

I used to like them. Now I think they try way too hard to seem cool. With all their songs about how they were rebels in school and what he does with girls and that song Animals or whatever..geeze  Roll Eyes

I really wouldn't know, sorry. Sad But, usually, lyrics don't bother me at all. No matter what.

AH! I STRAY!

Uhm.

Pigface. More weird stuff. Primus too, but, I think I've said that one already. =D

Lamb is AWESOME.  "Gorecki" is probably their most well known song.  It's on their debut, self titled album from 1996.  I'd recommend picking that one up first.  IMO their best album as a whole is their second one, "Fear of Fours".  It might not be to everyone's taste, however, as it's a bit more experimental and is sort of a concept album - none of the songs are in standard 4/4 time signature on purpose (hence the album's title).

"What Sound" and "Between Darkness and Wonder" are also both worth picking up, although the last one is IMO their weakest one.  They've since broken up and the singer, Lou Rhodes released a solo album, although it's all folk music rather than trip hop.

Lamb was my first love with regards to that genre of music, so naturally i'm biased. but if i was you i'd go out and buy their whole back catalogue Wink

but seriously, Gorecki is ace, they're also really well known for Gabriel, and my personal favorite is Clouds Clear because it's so atmospheric. one of my favorite songs of all time ever. especially live. so glad i got to see them live.

Morcheeba have done pleeeenty of stuff, you probably have heard the likes of The Sea, and i love Blindfold also.

i've recently been listening to a band called Frou Frou, who're on the Garden State OST (if you haven't seen it do, kick ass film with a kick ass soundtrack) with a song called Let Go, and i personally love the slightly grungy feel to Close Up, though pretty much all their stuff i've found so far seems to rock. pretty much Imogen Heap but with a backing musician/composer fella, although her solo work's pretty nifty too.

i'm a sucker for good female vocalists...  Grin

If you like Frou Frou / Imogen Heap, I'd also recommend checking out Kate Havnevik if you haven't already.  Her album, "Melankton" was produced by Guy Sigsworth - the male half of Frou Frou (who also produced for Bjork, Madonna and others).

Skye Edwards was the lead singer of Morcheeba, but she's gone on to do her own stuff, and released an album last February called "Mind How You Go".

Massive Attack has a new album slated for release sometime this year, featuring vocals from Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star).

And if you like Mazzy Star, check out Lindi Ortega.  I'm heavily biased as she's one of my best friends, but I think she's got one of the best female voices I've ever heard and she's got a new album coming out in the next couple of weeks.
