Hi

I hope i am writing this in the correct place...

I'm a webdesigner - and so, when i saw the new "beautiful" splash screen, the first this that i wondered was:

How big is that image? - 86.3kb

Being curious by nature, the next thing i thought was:

How small can i make it without loosing any visual quality? - 76.0kb

Here's the result of my experimenting:

(click the image for the fullsize version)

Also, if you could lend me the original, non-indexed image, im sure i could make it even smaller with no loss of quality (aprox. 50kb *guess*)

My next point is:

A splash screen may look OH so nice, however it may still be BAD webdesign, unless you let SAVY users skip it, for example by allowing us to set a cookie which auto skips the splash and goes to the "latest comic"

Secondly, you could put in a link to the AG blog on the splash (that way its more useful) and link to the "latest comic" from the main image...just to make surfing the site as smooth as possible...

Thanks for the comic!

That isn't a permanent splash screen - It's just a teaser image for whatever crap that's going up next Monday. It'll be gone by then.
