I have way too much time on my hands, but I listened to Linkin Park's "High Voltage" and it actually alludes to the X-Men in a lot of ways. I'll post most of the song, and highlight what does, and who it pertains to. Because I'm a nerd  Grin

Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes, sometimes....

Hybrid
I've been digging in crates
Ever since I was living in space
Before the rat race, before monkeys had human traits
I mastered numerology, big bang theology,
Performed lobotomies with telekinetic psychology-Professor X
Invented the mic to so I can start blessing it
Chin-checkin’ kids to make my point like an impressionist
Many men have tried to shake us
But I twist mic chords like double helixes
To show them what I'm made of
I buckle knees like leg braces
Cast a spell of instrumentalist on all of you MC's who hate us
So you can try on, leave you without a shoulder to cry on
From now to infinite, let icon be bygones
I fire bombs, ghostly notes haunt this
I tried threats, but moved on to a promise
I stomp shit with or without an accomplice
And run the gauntlet with whoever that wants this

High voltage
This is the unforgettable sound
High voltage
Bringing you up and taking you down
High voltage
Coming at you from every side
High voltage
Making the rhythm and rhyme collide

Akira,
I've put a kink in the backbones, of clones, with microphones
Never satisfied my rhyme Jones
Spraying bright day over what you might say- Sunfire
My blood types krylon, Technicolor type A
On highways write with road rage
On pages of wind, and cages a tin, that bounce all around
Surround sound devouring the scenes
Subliminal gangrene paintings, over all the same things
Sing songs karaoke copy bullshit
Break bones verbally with sticks and stones tactics
Forth dimension, compact convention
Write rhymes with ease while the track stands at attention
Meant to put you away, with the pencil
Pistol, official, sixteen line, a rhyme missile
While you risk your all
I pick out at your flaws
Singing rah blah, blah, blah you can say you saw

High voltage
This is the unforgettable sound
High voltage
Bringing you up and taking you down
High voltage
Coming at you from every side
High voltage
Making the rhythm and rhyme collide
High voltage
This is the unforgettable sound
High voltage
Bringing you up and taking you down
High voltage
Coming at you from every side
High voltage
Making the rhythm and rhyme collide

Who's the man, the man in your hand over your land
Roving over man's bolding when he's jamming your plans ova
I am vics clorousos, the most ferocious
When I spy my third eye, it's extremely high voltage
That's why I need ruby quartz glasses
Cause when I glance at the chest
Then I might blast the masses
- Cyclops
Subliminals transmitted through piano
Integrated in flow, calculated to nano
My IU skills are when I mean plea
Sees the rhyme I hear as I proceed through time
I walk through the walls and the inanimate obstacles- Shadowcat
While educed to the reduction of cells and molecules
I bring the knowledge the you swallow like the state of hologram
I bot your head, fat your lip like collagen
A telepath of the another verse with no postage- Emma Frost
Pharoahe Monch, Mike Shinoda, we are high voltage

Yea yea. I'm a geek.

ah, the Reanimation version with Pharoah Monch. I didnt like the beat of it but loved Pharoah's verse

Edit: another song that mentions X-men, as well as the Transformers..
Dilated Peoples- The Ruggedness (the ?? is what the person didnt know, and I couldnt figure it out either so eh)

I bring High-towers like Ron
til my powers are drawn
then let raw surges like cubes of Energon
Which Judas emcee double-cross like Exxon
I put a hex on, science needed to catch wrecks gone
The mic's a wand so when I rap you see stars
Kicking lines in your face that'll make you see bars
incarcerated, increasin' heart rate like a novice
gettin' faded and today's your start date
The stage is getting flooded and your ass is shark bait
cuz you're bleeding
You are transmitting but I'm not receiving
I used to be in 3D now I'm 4D like fairlane
Iristyle be high and pressurized like an airplane
Trained I'm precise to make the crowd tingle
You finally get to kick it and miss like Ray Finkle
All righty then, spin emcees like frisbees
and got verbal animation on lock like Walt Disney

The ruggedness, the ruggedness

Yo, my rhymes are always up to par with the chorus
Chop rappers down like trees in the rain forest
If hip-hop was baseball I'd win the Cy Young
for throwing raps more harder than pitches by Nolan Ryan
Right down the center I enter like The Dragon
with fire in my eyes watch the thermometer rise
Intellectual battle rhymer in cadence to the millisecond
in consecutive victories with ease (back to back)

Hey, you aint Ultramag - seckle with the Ego Trippin'
and you aint De La - seckle with the Ego Trippin' Two (too)
Dilated People ripping crew kids students that are truant
I get up in minds like Xavier's did to mutants
While you should get smart about chaos and *control*
your style is *old* with no *soul* like Bob *Dole*
Even seeming simpletons like Clinton are rhoades scholars
My style is seldom seen like the ?? on the ??

Yes,
I swarm like insects, I get wreck when in sex
My rhymes shine like windex
from index to-uh glossary (glossary)
front to back cover to cover
When the snare cracks over the phat track, I hover
on hydroplane like tires on ice
Yo I break it down to the raw elements like rice
My 4-4 hits lethal to your jaw, without one flaw
I represent ?? like ??
I roll like Nyquil put heads to bed (good night)
No lead, straight up gems in my toolshed (thats right)
I grab a few and a couple more for backup
some slow raps for new jacks for when they speed the track up
Don't let me pull the pin at the sport your in
you better play the opposite of a terrapin
The air we in's too thin for the both of us to win
You test me the in the day and then I eat you up for dinner
Ruggedness

It's All About The Pentiums
by Al Yankovic

It's all about the Pentiums, baby
Uhh, uh-huh, yeah
Uhh, uh-huh, yeah
It's all about the Pentiums, baby
It's all about the Pentiums, baby
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
Yeah

What y'all wanna do?
Wanna be hackers? Code crackers? Slackers
Wastin' time with all the chatroom yakkers?
9 to 5, chillin' at Hewlett Packard?
Workin' at a desk with a dumb little placard?
Yeah, payin' the bills with my mad programming skills
Defraggin' my hard drive for thrills
I got me a hundred gigabytes of RAM
I never feed trolls and I don't read spam
Installed a T1 line in my house
Always at my PC, double-clickin' on my mizouse
Upgrade my system at least twice a day
I'm strictly plug-and-play, I ain't afraid of Y2K
I'm down with Bill Gates, I call him "Money" for short
I phone him up at home and I make him do my tech support
It's all about the Pentiums, what?
You've gotta be the dumbest newbie I've ever seen
You've got white-out all over your screen
You think your Commodore 64 is really neato
What kinda chip you got in there, a Dorito?
You're usin' a 286? Don't make me laugh
Your Windows boots up in what, a day and a half?
You could back up your whole hard drive on a floppy diskette
You're the biggest joke on the Internet
Your database is a disaster
You're waxin' your modem, tryin' to make it go faster
Hey fella, I bet you're still livin' in your parents' cellar
Downloadin' pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar
And postin' "Me too!" like some brain-dead AOL-er
I should do the world a favor and cap you like Old Yeller
You're just about as useless as jpegs to Hellen Keller

It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)

Now, what y'all wanna do?
Wanna be hackers? Code crackers? Slackers
Wastin' time with all the chatroom yakkers?
9 to 5, chillin' at Hewlett Packard?

Uh, uh, loggin' in now
Wanna run wit my crew, hah?
Rule cyberspace and crunch numbers like I do?
They call me the king of the spreadsheets
Got 'em printed out on my bedsheets
My new computer's got the clocks, it rocks
But it was obsolete before I opened the box
You say you've had your desktop for over a week?
Throw that junk away, man, it's an antique
Your laptop is a month old? Well that's great
If you could use a nice, heavy paperweight
My digital media is write-protected
Every file inspected, no viruses detected
I beta tested every operating system
Gave props to some, and others? I dissed 'em
While your computer's crashin', mine's multitaskin'
It does all my work without me even askin'
Got a flat-screen monitor forty inches wide wide
I believe that your says "Etch-A-Sketch" on the side
In a 32-bit world, you're a 2-bit user
You've got your own newsgroup, "alt.total-loser"
Your motherboard melts when you try to send a fax
Where'd you get your CPU, in a box of Cracker Jacks?
Play me online? Well, you know that I'll beat you
If I ever meet you I'll control-alt-delete you
What? What? What? What? What?

It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
It's all about the Pentiums! (It's all about the Pentiums, baby)
Now, what y'all wanna do?
Wanna be hackers? Code crackers? Slackers
Wastin' time with all the chatroom yakkers?
9 to 5, chillin' at Hewlett Packard?
What??

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That's how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way

When you're in love to stay.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That's how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
'Cause you're in love, you're in love,
And love is here to stay!

HA! Now you'll be humming that song for at least an hour!

Joe, you GENIUS!

Best.car.chase.music.ever

For me, one of my favourites is

When you don't see me...
It's not a matter of going to grow
It's not a matter of time or how I feel
I'm throwing off the shadow of a better man now
What you see is what you never had

Get real
Get another

I don't exist when you don't see me
I don't exist when you're not here
What the eye don't see won't break the heart
You can make believe when we're apart
But when you leave I disappear

When you don't see me...

Oh, it's kind of different when your there
You can lease the peace of mind
You bought a mask, I put it on
You never thought to ask me
If I wear it when you're gone

Get real
Get another

I don't exist when you don't see me
I don't exist when you're not here
What the eye don't see won't break the heart
You can make believe when we're apart
But when you leave I disappear
When you don't see me...

You never learned
You bought me
Everything and less
I turned
You couldn't let me move
I guess, I don't deny, it don't disprove
What you see is what you lost
If I were you I wouldn't try

Get real
Get another

I don't exist when you don't see me
I don't exist when you're not here
What the eye don't see won't break the heart
You can make believe when we're apart
But when you leave I disappear
When you don't see me...

Its been my fave LP song since, well since I started listening to them back when they came out. The lyrics are awesome. Big bang theology..awesome

Tool- Aenima (I only posted two lines before, but the whole song is great)

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
bull-shit three ring cirrrrcus siiiideshow of
Freaks here in this, hopeless fucking, hole we call LA.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time.
Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.
It's a bull-shit three ring cirrrrrcuus siiideshow of
freaks here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time.
Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this
stupid shit, silly shit, stupid shit...
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.
Learn to swim.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim
Fuck L Ron Hubbard and Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all these gun-toting Hip gangster wannabes.
Learn to swim.
Fuck retro anything. Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and Fuck your short memory.
Learn to swim
Fuck smiley glad-hands with hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional, insecure actresses.
Learn to swim.
Cuz I'm praying for rain
and I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.
I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.
I wanna see it come down.
Suck it down.
Flush it down.

I liked a lot of the hip hop aspects on the album, but that song was BITCHIN' :3

I already posted my two faves for now (coincedentially, both rap, and also coincedentally, both N.W.A)

Yea... I actually love the X-Ecutioners stuff with Linkin Park. Shinoda is a fairly decent rapper, actually.

And to stay on topic... ^_^;
I love Iron and Wine, and as much as I liked the Postal Service's version of "Such Great Heights", I really liked how Iron and Wine did it:

I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images
And when we kiss they're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God Himself did make
Us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay

And true it may seem like a stretch
But it's thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death

When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

I've tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon the sending

And that frankly will not fly
You'll hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
And this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

Amen.  Tool just writes some awesome shit, Keenan was one of my heros as a former vocalist.  The new album is gonna kick so much ass.

I don't really have a favorite lyrics perse, but I can honestly say that a lot of my own philosophy is reflected in the album by Shadows Fall called "The War Within":

We are given the gift of creation
We are given all of the light and purity of the universe
We are the ones who will create the snarling beasts of human nature
True piece of mind is not bestowed upon us by the heavens
The evils of man are spawned within the confusion of our own mind.

The world within myself, all is one
The power of one and I.
........

Man has programmed himself to die
A death wish has been ingrained
Almost with our first breath
We are taught to expect our last
Mortality is a disease of the mind
We have lost site of the bounty before us
Boundless resource of pleasure and plenty
Embrace the gifts before you
Paradise is underfoot, Eternity is within!

An album I recommend to anyone

Yea, he's not bad. Ever heard Dedicated? He's pretty good in that song, and also in Handsome Boy Modeling School's Rock and Roll (Could Never Hip-Hop Like This). And his rap at the end of And One is REALLY good. But his Fort Minor stuff isnt all that great. Not bad but not great.

MJK's lyrics are so full of hidden meanings and they're just incredible. Like 46 and 2 is all Jungian philosphy, and I (a psych major) didnt even realize it until someone pointed it out for me.

I think I have one song by Shadows Falls, but I'll check out that album  Grin

Ian Dury And The Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick

In the deserts of Sudan
And the gardens of Japan
From Milan to Yucatan
Every woman, every man

Hit me with your rhythm stick.
Hit me! Hit me!
Je t'adore, ich liebe dich,
Hit me! hit me! hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick.
Hit me slowly, hit me quick.
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

In the wilds of Borneo
And the vineyards of Bordeaux
Eskimo, Arapaho
Move their body to and fro.

Hit me with your rhythm stick.
Hit me! Hit me!
Das ist gut! C'est fantastique!
Hit me! hit me! hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick.
It's nice to be a lunatic.
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

In the dock of Tiger Bay
On the road to Mandalay
From Bombay to Santa Fe
Over hills and far away

Hit me with your rhythm stick.
Hit me! Hit me!
C'est si bon, mm? Ist es nicht?
Hit me! hit me! hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick.
Two fat persons, click, click, click.
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me! Ow!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me! hit me!
Hit me (x5)
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

Cold Missouri Waters gives me the chills when I listen to it, even more so because it's all true.
--------
"My name is Dodge -- but then you know that.
It's written on the chart there, at the foot-end of the bed
They think I'm blind, that I can't read it
But I've read it every word, and every word it says is Death..
So, confession -- that's the reason that you came?
Get it off my chest, before I check out of the game...
Now you mention it, well, there's thirteen things I'll name...

...etc

...I don't know why - I just thought it
I struck a match to waist-high grass
Running out of time

Tried to tell them - "step into this fire I've set!
We can't make it - this is the only chance you'll get..."
But they cursed me,
Ran for the rocks above ahead
I laid face-down and prayed
Above the cold missouri waters...

Then when I rose, like the phoenix,
In that world reduced to ashes
There were none but two survived...
I stayed that night - and one day after -
Carried bodies to the river,
Wondering how I'd stayed alive..."
--------

Most of Bat Out Of Hell (the whole album) has good lyrics too.

"I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram
On a silver-black phantom bike
Oh and the metal is hot, and the engine is howling
And we're all about to see the light...
Nothing ever grows in the rotten old hole
And everything is stunted and lost
And nothing really rocks, and nothing really rolls
And nothing's ever worth the cost."

Even "Pi" by Hard 'n Phirm has some interesting if surreal lyrics:

"When ink and pen, in hands of men
Inscribe your form, bipedal P
They draw an altar on which God
Has slaughtered all stability...."

Oh, and O Lucky Man by Alan Price, some lines are excellent.

"If knowledge hangs around your neck like pearls, instead of chains,
You are a lucky man!

Judith- A Perfect Circle

You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
F*ck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never---choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ
As if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
Did it all for you
He did it all for you

Slipknot - Duality

I push my fingers into my eyes...
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache...
But it's made of all the things I have to take...
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside...
If the pain goes on...
Aaaaaaaah!

I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited as my time's elapsed
Now, All I do is live with so much fate
I've wished for this, I've bitched at that
I've left behind this little fact:
You cannot kill what you did not create
I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then I swear I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise
I guess I'll save the best for last
My future seems like one big past
You're left with me 'cause you left me no choice

I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
If the pain goes on,
I'm not gonna make it!

Put me back together
Or separate the skin from bone
Leave me all the Pieces, then you can leave me
alone
Tell me the reality is better than the dream
But I found out the hard way,
Nothing is what it seems!

I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
But it's made of all the things I have to take
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside
If the pain goes on,
I'm not gonna make it!

All I've got...all I've got is insane...
All I've got...all I've got is insane...
All I've got...all I've got is insane!
All I've got...all I've got is insane!

I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
But it's made of all the things I have to take
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside
If the pain goes on,
I'm not gonna make it!
