I say DC, frank miller's 'Batman: the dark knight returns' made superheroes more darker (and thus more human?). There's some awesome artwork to be had on marvel though. Check out 'The incredible Hulk: Psyche out & The punisher: Ghosts of innocents'.

Sigh, see both Universes have their great characters and then... not so great characters, yeah.... so really I think it depends on the person who's writing and doing the artwork for the current storyline. For example, I loved the House of M storyline in Marvel over the summer and fall where basically, except for a handful, every single mutant ended up losing their powers. Plus, it tied in with the Avengers: Disassembled and stuff. Although, I also absolutely loved the No Man's Land storyline for Batman a few years back. It all depends because really, nothing is consistant.
I'll say this for DC though, when their character's die they stay dead (for the most part cause Superman came back [although technically he never died] and so did Jordon]. Marvel has a bad habit of bringing back pretty much anyone and everyone who's ever died in their universe.

The great thing about having Marvel and DC is that you have lots of comics, and you don't need to be stuck to only one publisher, at least I haven't signed any contract with Marvel nor DC
We have a wide selection of good comics to read (Sin City; Batman; Spiderman; Weapon X; watchmen; Usagi Yojimbo) and no need to choose only one...
Btw; Superman is a dick, as Capitain America; Lobo rocks, as Deadpool (and Logan, of course); Spider-Man is great, as Batman (the Spider-Man/Batman crossover was great); and no one can face the awesome power of the mighty Thor!

the thing u hav to understand tho is i come from AND LIVE on a tiny island in the Caribbean Sea called Grand Cayman. we dont get any other comics but DC, Marvel and Dark Horse.... and btw, Dark Horse sucks too. We get an alrite selection of both (not as much DC as i'd like to see tho) and thus i hav been forced to select DC... on account of that's all i kno and appreciate. im not going to sit down and read a marvel comic because of the company's screen production value or because i can allegedly 'relate' more to the characters. if the freaking writing sucks and the artwork is bad. i mean most of the stuff now looks like photomanipulations.... the way i see it, if a comic is gonna look TOO real, i may as well go take photos and read a book. DC on the other hand has excellent writing, genius artwork and i relate to the characters just fine... not bcus someone else feels that i do or they do, but because i've grown up with these characters. bcus of DC's Multiverse, and years over marvel, there are sooo many characters to choose from and they all hav different backgrounds and/or ethnicities (which im really impressed by). ppl hate superman bcus he's almost godly but at the end of the day, he's a guy tryin to do the rite thing with his gifts and goes home to his wife and is reely confused bcus he's not evn sure he's doin the rite thing anymore in this sick and twisted world we live in... tell me that's not good writing? if u dont want a "boy scout" or a goody-goody superhero, write to comicbook comapanies and request supervillain series' or watch documentaries on Court TV. to all you americans, enjoii ur day and ur wide range of comicbook lines. i love my DC

I'm going to have to say DC simply because they own VERTIGO comics and they released my all-time favorite comic book series of all time: Preacher. Which combines my love of the west with my odd sense of humor...not to mention fantastic violence and the possibly the best hero ever conceived. It was even written by Garth Ennis and Drawn by Steve Dillon...two greats of the industry. ((Plus I've never been big into superhero comics...the X-Men I could potentially stand, but I doubt I could ever become a reader.))

Sorry for merging the topic. Us newbies are bound to get it wrong from time to time. It won't happen again, I promise.
