Terry Pratchett's Discworld

I have to say that the best way to read Pratchett is fully Illustrated.  I picked up the Lost Continent -  I think, it was the most recent ones with Cohen et al where they go adventuring and they take over the city just because they can, but then don't know what to do with it - like that and having the illustrations is just amazing.  They also have the coffee table book "The Art of Diskworld" which, once I have a coffee table, will be given a position of honor where people can't get their grimy fingers on it.  Grr...

One thing you may be able to do is ask the library if they can get it.  I have had that work a couple of times.  Then again, for me, owning the hardback, first edition is the way to go since I picked up Theif of Time about 4 years ago signed by Mr. Pratchett himself.  Whenever I see the new one, be it on a bookshelf or on Amazon, I buy it.  No looking at ratings, no reading the inside panel, no waiting.  I want it NOW. :-)  I had Thud! for almost 2 weeks (yay finals) before getting to sit down to it and in the meantime I had another friend buy me a copy... oops...  hopefully he will enjoy it :-)

Can't say I have a favorite book of Terry's, but I was rather fond of Small Gods, Witches Abroad and Guards Guards. Oh, and Jingo, but that might just because it featured a lot of the Patrician, my favorite. Character. Ever. I love him even more than my beloved Cap'n Jack Sparrow...

You can get any book in any library through something called Inter-Library Loan. My mom runs a library back home and basically one library lends it to another... All you have to do is tell them what book you want, though apparently it helps to have the ISBN number as well...

Yeah read the Lost Continent... Was really good! Though, there was more to it than just taking it over because they could... They wanted to rule.

I named my cat Greebo after Greebo out of the Discworld.  I funny how much alike they are.  Greebo (my cat) is strangely strong and is able to take out (knock over) dogs of any size at will.  Once he pounced on the next door neighbours golden retreiver and sent him rolling.  Since we got Greebo there has been a big lack of dogs walking down our street.

Just to add to how alike they are, Greebo only has one eye.  He went blind and his eye exploded so we had to take it out.

The differences are that he can't turn into a pirate (at least I don't thinks so), he likes all humans, and he's not sex-mad (castration).

I have just finished my last discworld novel so I am goin to have to wait ages before Thud! comes out in softback

They are all really good and I still remember a few times that I was left is tears I was laughin so hard

I got Good Omens as a gift way back, and I would also recommend Neil Gaiman's work.  The Sandman series is incredible, both in story and art, as well as being the breakout set creating the genre of Graphic Novel.  Unfortunatley with there being something like 14 of the books at $20 each, it gets pricey.

Both authors work is reflected in Good Omens, but generally they are quite different in style.  I do love the drier humor you get from the English writers, not quite as in your face as a lot of the current American stuff.  Then again, the English have always been better at laughing at themselves, us Americans tend to take ourselves too seriously...

I got banned from reading them in by one of my roommates at one point.  I would sit and giggle randomly for hours.  Drove him nuts.

Second that.  It looks like he would pull off that air of 'cool, but deadly nonchalonce' that is integral from his training through the assassins guild.  Lord Vetenari and Granny are probably my favorite characters.  Heaven forbid they square off against each other... her headology and his lethal togetherness,  there goes the neighborhoods...

Thanks also.  I have read, and re-read most of them, and so I do a great job with details, but titles are not-so-much    I love how the they also call it FourEcks, a little easier than EcksEcksEcksEcks...

I've tried to get through Equal Rites a while back but the witches just don't interest me. They're my least favorite characters.

thanks Haunted ^_^ i have the book here somewhere but i still haven't unpacked since i moved, all my precious books are still in cardboard boxes :p
Never read the witches, i tried to read Masquerade but that didn't interest me enough so i stopped reading it, only one i read that wasn't the Watch was going Postal, now that was good.
I was going to wait for Thud! to come out on paperback but seen as it was my birthday at the time i just thought sod it ^_^ very glad that i did too

I know this sounds odd, but I think for Death's voice that a computer generated thing would be best. Something that kind of makes your ears throb and wonder where you are.

As long as they over-dubb his voice and have it mono and clear; even if everyone else echoes then I'll be happy.
