First, yes, I read through this and this.

Want I want to know is if there is any way to utilize Xgrid under 10.4 without Mac OS X Server. I tried installing the Xgrid agent from an Apple download on their site, but it only works under 10.3, and i can't seem to find a way to use it, but I want to. Is there anything I can do, or anything similar to that? I basically just want to use my 3 macs (since two are always available) or overnight in order to use handbrake faster and a few other apps (Maya) to render faster.

I found this little app, but it still doesn't allow for grid computing.

I even tried mac os x hints, but that didnt help either.

I could always downgrade both to Panther, since panther apparently had Xgrid functionality, but that's rather a step backwards at this point.

lost cause with Xgrid? Is there another way to do this?

It ships with your dev tools

that link shows how to do it, but links to all the software I've already tried. xgridlite, xgrid admin tool (corrupted download each time I nab it from the apple website, won't mount).

but thanks, at least it clarifies submitting jobs via Terminal.

Problem is, that on Xgrid with a Tiger controller, all machines must run tiger. Xgridagent atlast look didnt have Tiger support, so linux boxes are out.

Shmi, all the tools you need should be on your Tiger installation CDs, not from the interweb Tongue

Just install the Dev Tools from the Tiger cd and try those... and make sure all your boxes have the dev tools installed and are running tiger.

Man I didn't even know I knew that stuff. Way to go me.

Quote from: man xgridctl
NAME
xgridctl -- Xgrid daemons control interface

SYNOPSIS
     xgridctl status target on|off|start|stop|restart

The xgridctl command will start up an Xgrid controller deamon on your Mac and then you can use the xgrid command line interface to submit jobs to it. You can also use the Xgrid Admin application which is part of the Server Admin Tools package. The Xgrid Admin apps works pretty much like the old Xgrid agent app from the betas. It can connect to a controller and submit jobs and view the status and all that good stuff.
