Hey,

Recently, the browser on my desktop (a PC) stopped letting me access any site that requires a sign-in (hotmail, Ebay, etc.). I can reach the sign-in page, but the moment I try to sign on it gives me the "page not found" window you get when you're not connected to the internet. I figured that I must have picked up a virus, though I do have Norton Anti-Virus installed, so I ran some free anti-virus scans. After scanning the computer multiple times, I've now gotten rid of every virus that was on there, (I hope!), but the problem isn't fixed. I also tried switching from Internet Explorer (yeah, yeah, I know), to Firefox, but that didn't solve anything either. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hah: no, I wish it was that simple! I'm using my new laptop right now, but I'd like to solve this problem with my desktop so that the rest of my family can use it. After years of steadfastedly refusing to touch a computer, my mom has finally agreed to learn how to use email, but she says the screen on my laptop is too small so she won't go near it. I figure wrestling with my old, virus-ridden desktop is a small price to pay to drag my mom into the digital age!

We had that same bug at work.  I was told to re-install the OS.  It sucks, but it works.  After doing that, reinstall the virus spyware program and it should be good.
Just as a second alternative, look at AOL explorer.  I found it does a spyware check before you enter a page, blocks pop ups and all.
Good luck
