well, im planning on buying a 15" MacBook Pro soon, i have a litle fear, it is a 1st Revision model (the better one, with 2.0ghz, 1gb ram, 100hdd, and 256ddr3 video mem), my question is, is there any big "mistakes" pointed at the 1st revision of MBP's compared to the 2nd ones?

Like, i donno, HEAT?  yeah.

Wait for the Rev B machines to roll out, OR make sure the MBP you're buying is manufactured ~2 months after the initial release.

Hmm... 5 macs? Thats just a LITTLE overboard ay? Quite litiraly one for every day of the week!
Although I do really like the desk layout of the Macs. But doesnt it kinda ruin the whole minimalistic look of Macs?

I reckon its best to have a MacBook andPC desktop, or visa-versa. That way you have access to every program, you can do your work etc, and play games :]... rather than bootcamping.

anyway, just my rant.

Alright, I read through some of this, and I'm planning on getting a powerbook for WoW and Photoshop, but I have no idea where to begin, being a PC user my whole life and knowing basically everything about windows, I could pretty much use some help on figuring out what is best. I'm assuming the best of the best is the G5 (if I'm correct there is a G5 correct?). I'm wanting a quad but I don't know if I could afford a quad.

I'm pretty much tired of Microshit's bullshit messing up all the time. (I am an avid HATER of Microsoft products and am Boycotting everything they make).

So, please have pity on me, for I am a new mac wanna be.

Oh and Hawk...you converted me. Feel proud.

ok i have a question... (yes im a pc user who doesnt know what the faff is going on)

i cant decide between macbook and macbook pro...
whichever one i get im going to spend as much on it as the options will allow, so apart from the 0.16GHz processor difference and the smaller screen, is there anything else that makes them differ? and how much difference will 0.16GHz make?
(assume that both models are top-spec)

Right now, the best desktop is the G5 tower, yes. Apple will probably release the new version of their desktop tower this year or early next year, so you might want to wait, or not. Up to you. The benefit of waiting would be the increased speed, and ability to run windows natively through Boot Camp, should you want to play games or use some programs that are windows-only.

The Pro version has a full size DVI-out port, while the MacBook only has a mini-DVI port. Additionally, the MBP has a better graphics card, bigger screen, backlit keyboard, and an expresscard slot.

I've used the Pro on and off, and own a MacBook. The .16ghz difference isnt really a whole lot. Get as much ram as you can and you're good to go. The biggest difference, to me, is the screen size. I went from a 15" powerbook to my 13" macbook, and the smaller screen was a bit uncomfortable, but I've grown used to it by now, and it no longer bugs me.

Don't buy the G5 PowerMac. Like Shmi said it's going to be replaced, it's the only Mac left that's not Intel. If you want a desktop, get an iMac. I have used them a bit via friends and damn they are nice!

Shmi pretty much covered the rest of it.

[edit]
Sorry, forgot this. You have a PC now right? A desktop? You can get a MacMini and just use the same monitor, keyboard and mouse you have now. If you are looking to save a bit but want a nice juicy mac you should do that. You can get a pretty nice MacMini for a good price but if you want power beyond reckoning then go for the iMac or MacBook Pro.

well they didn't get rid of it completely, it's on the 17" MBP, pretty weak they had / decided to nix if from the 15" line, but eh, i'm still hoping that they put on the Rev. B iMac.  Fleeting dreams, i know, but still.  It would be nice to see the iMacs i/O bus get beefed up.  If i didn't have FW800 on my external, i don't know what i'd do...  maybe eat a sandwitch.
