How does that work? That's just a different kind of media - I don't see how it would make a difference.

Anyway, only my PC has a DVD burner, and my beige can't even read dvds!

Thanks again for your replies.

you have said that the drive has been booted up in different ways, does this mean you can boot it up as an external HD? (I am not a computer pro, so bare with me) I installed Tiger on my iBook (wouldn't let me install through the DVD's) as an external HD through my G5.  Do you know of anyone with a Mac that you could try this with?  If I am way off, don't castrate me, just trying to help

The computer is too old to boot up as an external HD. Anyway... I don't have another mac, just a PC running linux and I don't think that it would be compatible.

It seems I didn't explain the issue properly. The computer boots fine, it just wont installl 10.2.3 on the disk - it crashes with a kernel panic about the graphics card, which is a stock standard ATI.

I have had OSX running on the system before - I had someone else install it on my drive.

I can boot to OS 9, which is installed on another disk.

Thanks again.
