How do I do it?  I just got my PowerBook (w00t! Cheesy ) and want to move all my mp3's over from the old Windows notebook.  Is there a way I can do this, or more importantly just move them from the iPod directly to computer?  Thanks!

I would say, put all the files you want to bring over on the ipod in hard disk mode, so you can just copy them over to the powerbook

I'm not quite sure what "hard drive mode" is but your iPod should function as an external HD as well as an MP3 player.  I bileve what he ment was to transfer the files by puting them on the HD as you would say a .doc file then connecting to the Mac and geting them off the iPod that way.  As far as I know you can't transfer the files as is from the iPod because... well... you can't.  It's some sort of anti piracy thing (you know you can't just plug into your friends computer and he can the DL all of your MP3s that way).  But don't take my word for it, I only have experience with my iPod and my Mac.  I don't know about the relations of iPod and Winows.

I believe you just drag the files to the disk, as opposed to using iTunes to sync it. I just copied the files off of my mac at work to my laptop over the LAN.

Does anyone know if windows supports HFS yet? If it does just boot your mac as a firewire drive and hook it up to your PC.

You boot a mac as a firewire drive by holding down t when it starts.

As far as I know, Windows only supports DOS, NT and whatever other filesystems Microsoft has made. You can buy an HFS driver for windows tho.

Here's the result(s) of a versiontracker search:
HFVExplorer
and this is the result for the search "mac".

No, Windows can see Fat, Fat32, and NTFS.

In this situation, a Mac with OS X can now see windows local networks. If they are both on the same network, use your mac to browse for servers (Go/Connect to Server...). Make sure your Windows File Sharing is checked the System Preferences and a user is setup on your Windows Machine, can be your regualr user too. Turn Sharing on for your iTunes folder in the Properties window. Then it's just a matter of transfering them into your new iTunes library.
