No. If you apple-drag the program out of the dock you move the program to wherever you drop it. but remember that this removes it from the applications folder, it moves the whole program, so if you apple-drag to the TRASH it would delete it, yes.

About the whole screensaver desktop thing. On Panther, éxpose appears to still work if you let the screensaver run after setting up the desktop screensaver.

Also, if you send you're computer to sleep, the desktop might freeze. If this happens just place a window covering the whole desktop and send it to sleep again a couple of times until the desktop moves again.
