I have a dedicated 40 gig HD for music and a 120 gig for movies/tv shows/videos.   The only thing I keep on the actual powerbook HD are my current projects, school papers, and the applications.

Mine are actually a mix of my wife's and my music. She listens to a lot of country, which I don't really care for. Her stuff probably accounts for 20Gb of my aforementioned collection.

Well, I did have about 5 days worth (not sure about exact amounts), but I deleted everything that I had ripped from CD.

Heres the story.

I use a iMac (800 MHz) that I get from my school. Were not *supposed* to put anything on it (ha ha), so I got an external HD. I kept all my music on that. Well, I'm almost done building my new PC, so what I'm going to do is transfer the music that is left on to that from my EHD, and rip every single CD in my house as a project, because I got the fastest CD drive and DVD drive on the market. I'm gunna see how fast I can rip 300+ CDs. Anyway, I figured it would be a waste to have all that music on my EHD when I'm gunna put it on the PC. So I got ride of it.

So now I've got 367 songs, 23 hours, 1.75 GB of music that isn't from CDs. I'm not gunna tell you were it is from, though...

I was happy when the 60GB iPod Photo came out, because I can carry around all my music!

I can't do that until they make a 80Gb version. By then, I'll probably have over 80 gigs of music. I'm @ 72.9Gb right now.

All legit, no cash spent yet hehehe

And time running is 9.3 days, but I've formated my harddrive several times so should be About 100 or so days.

How do you have less songs than me and triple the gigs?

Does all of your music have super high bit rates or something?

Curently 5356 tunes. 16 days and 30,57 Gb. I found out that it is easier to have all your mp3's in one place. So I have no idé how many that is ripped. One thing is for sure. Collecting mp3's is addictive

i agree with MachineMan2005 Smiley
thought i had a lot at nearly 60gigs - but Orion's is an impressive
although - they're all mine, not half from a spouse or gf or anything Tongue
but also, i'd say only about 3/4 were obtained completly legally - some kinda fell off a load of newsgroups

not sure what to do with all my CDs though - if i get rid of them on ebay or something, it'd save a helluva lot of space.... but then what if the hard disk that's got all my iTunes music on goes to the big IDE Bus in the sky?

Ermph. I should probably inform you that I'm waiting on an external drive to arrive before I rip the rest of my collection. I ripped the wife's to get her off my back.

I estimate another 15-20Gb when I'm finally done...

That's why I haven't got rid of mine. I just pack them into padded boxes and store them in the basement. I've currently got 1400+ cds, for something like 21300+ mp3s. Crated and stored about 1100 of them. That's 11 boxes of cds. (Anything more than a hundred to a box, the jewel cases start cracking. Not to mention, they get kinda heavy.)

I'm seriously thinking of setting up a RAID system to safeguard my music....

Hah. All of mine are legal. Figure USD$15 per cd x 1400cds.

Oh, crap. That's USD$21,000!!!
