dunno if anyone else from the UK here is dying to get a PSP like i am, but if you are, you might be interested to now that amazon.co.uk have just put it up on their site - you can pre-order now for 179.99 quid. the release date they have is march 18th - so far Sony haven't said when they'll be releasing it, other than before the end of march.
can find any games to order yet though

Hmmm.. the european release date that I have in my iCal is the 25th of March. Well I can't order due to power connectors and Amazon policy. So i'll probably get it at my local game shop.

yeah, amazon are really bad at putting up items for pre-order before they have a real release date - i've got about 4 orders for books that are still on pre-order, although when i placed the order, amazon said they were due for release before xmas!
still, at least with amazon, if i find a better offer, i can cancel the online order easily.

Remember, kids! To fully prepare for the PSP, clear out a largish-sized room in your house and pack it up to the celing with batteries. This should give you enough power for about a day or two's worth of play-time.

Indeed!  I've heard it does eat up some batteries but you can get adaptors so that you can plug it into the wall.  Now all I need is a mini generator to carry around with me and it'll be all good.

In that case, you'd be better off dragging your PS2 along

Not really. I'm mad at my PS2 right now. On San Andreas, it says my controller is disconnected when it vibrates ( at random times, but it happens when it vibrates ).

But, you know, this is why the AC adapter was created. Yay for unlimited gaming ability at the cost of a higher power bill! ( which would probably cost less since batteries are so god awfully expensive these days )

i'll just have to wait to see for when mine arrives i guess....

I read in GI that they last up to 8 hours.
Doing what, I don't remember.
All that comes to mind is eight hours.

i've had that - you don't happen to have "differences of opinion" with your ps2 like i do, do you? cos every now and then, i'm positive that i hit the punch button at the right time, but the ps2 disagrees and the argument is usually solved when the dualshock ends up on the otherside of the room. after a couple of those, i've found several of my dualshocks start to do wierd stuff with they vibrate - the last one (before i bought the new slim ps2 and got a fresh dualshock with it) would change the radio station in Vice City everytime it rumbled cos i bumped into something or went over a curb.

mind you, i'll this for the dualshocks - they do take on helluva a pounding - i've only ever completely totalled two of them. that was Tekken Tag and MGS2 that resulted in critical temper failure that caused me to swing the dualshock round my head like a sling before slamming it into the carpet

Well Draliseth dont forget that the Grand Theft Auto series is known for screwing up real bad at times so its probaly just the game not the system.

The place I'm working at the moment, this shop called CeX, has 2 PSP's in on import from japan. Unfortunately, that means we're currently retailing them for £345-odd, putting it out of my price range for the 'mo.
I got my hands on it playing a few games, though: Puzzle Bobble, Vampire Hunter Chronicles, and (most importantly) Ridge Racer.
Proper Sound and Proper Graphics on this dinky little handheld!

Also, just fully charged one, and the readout told me there would be about 5 1/2 hours of juice in it, (with a nice percentage reading, too), but the drain depends on the game: how fast and how often the minidisc needs to be accessed.
Therefore the games for it are designed to have short and infrequent loading times if possible, to save battery life.
Anyhoo, 5 1/2 hours is pretty damn good, I mean who will really play it for 5 hours straight, short of on a long flight, or something?

I've had my PSP for about two months now, and I haven't had *any* problems with it comes to battery life.  I mean...it's not great when you compare it to the battery life on say, the GBA SP, but then, the SP isn't running an uber-powerful CPU and gorgeous screen Shocked)

Not to mention the UMD drive....all I have to do now, is wait for the western launch so I can actually get some games...my Japanese isn't so great :op
