With the release of
Firefox 1.0
, the name of the game is expandability. Ff 1.0 has seen the release of tons of that
extentions
allow you to do absolutly anything, from design a web page, block pop-ups, nuke unwanted clutter on a page, control your favorite media player, or do any number of things to any image on the web.
Without any further interuptions, here are
my
favorite extentions.
Adblock-
This extention allows you to get ride of any ad on a page, and block any ads from that site from ever appearing on any site you visit, ever.
Image Zoom-
This extention does just what it says, and much more. You can zoom an image to any level, fit it to the window, and much more.
Nuke Anything-
This extention lets you, through the contexual menu, get ride of anything on a page. Big block of text distorting the page? Nuke it.
BBCode-
This is a must have for any forum dweller. It adds BBCode, HTML, and XHTML to the contextual menu when replying in a forum, allowing for quicker tags.
ChatZilla-
This is an IRC client that fits snuggly inside Firefox. Because it is built on the Firefox code, it is very stable, and super functional.
Disable Targets For Downloads-
This extention prevents downloads from spawning black windows, which clutter up the screen. It runs silent, is small, and works so well you'll forget that DLspawns exist.
Autofill-
The one feature that IE had which Firefox lacked was the autofill feature. But now, Firefox has once again blow away the compition, because there are
2
Autofill extentions.
fireFTP-
Firefox has again integrated incredibly useful tools into itself. fireFTP integrates a FTP browser in to Firefox. Need I say more?
FoxyTunes-
Found a video online you want to watch, but your listening to music? Well, no longer do you need to go through the "labor intensive" proccess of opening your media player and hitting pause. FoxyTunes puts media player controls right into the bottom of your browser window. And get this- it works with every single media player you can think of.
Google Preview-
Here is one of those things that makes your jaw drop. Google Preview is an extention that inserts thumbnails of sites in to your google serches.
Paste Quote-
This is another extention built specifically for the lazy forum dweller. It adds quote tag functionality to the paste button. Just hit "Paste Quote" right below paste in the contexual menu and the text in your clipboard, plus quote tags appear where you want them.
ReloadEvery-
This is a great extention that allows you reload a certain page at a specific time interval, which you select. This is great for being the first to catch the update of your favorite *cough*Applegeeks*cough* online comic.
Smiley Xtra-
Does your favorite forum not have a wide enough range of smileys? This extention fixes that. It gives you access to a huge library of smileys, plus the tools to put them wherever you want.
SmoothWheel-
Do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel? Maybe you've noticed that Firefox gets jumpy when you try and scroll to fast? This fixes that. And fixes it very well, too.
So what are your favorite extentions?
-whips forehead- phew, that was long...

Search button, Adblock, preferential, text/plain, Chromedit, and Paste & Go are my favorite extensions. Search button adds middle mouse clicking to the search bar for sending the search to a new tab, as well as some other cool features, text/plain makes any plaintext url's linkable (I just select, and right click then goto the option I want, either in window or new tab), Preferential and Chromedit lets me tweak alot of stuff by hand, and Paste & Go lets me paste a link into the address bar and goto it automatically (if I want to).

I don't use Firefox and probably never will. There has yet to be one feature released with it that makes me want it. If I ever do get it, I would probably use its "cool" features once in my time of using it.

It's funny. The new Adblock in the new XP service pack does that too.

If you're a forum dweller, you know all of the codes by heart and can type them faster then dragging your mouse 2 inches to click a button.

Have we gotten so lazy as to where we can't open one wondow to hit a pause button? I can do it in less than a second with the Alt + Tab function. Then again, if you're not using Windows you don't have that.
Firefox may have its perks, but I think it's way overrated. I've never had problems with IE, and I don't think I ever will. THe only thing an internet browser needs:
-Refresh button
-Back and forward buttons.
-Close window button.
-And a favorites and history viewer.
Everything else is unneccessary space that could be used for more important stuff. Like not taking up so much registry space, therefore making you have to defrag your registry as much.
Mozilla is famous for creating registry unfriendly software.

He asked what our favorite extentsions are, not why we like, or in your case dislike Firefox.
Anyhow, I prefer my Firefoxed served vanilla style, with just a dash of theme, to make it look as good as it runs (not that the original theme is horrible or anything).

Also, you have to remember, this is a Apple based community, not everyone uses windows. Also, some of your comments is a bit off base (The no alt tab thing aint true) or naive. Please take your fanboy like comments elsewhere. I aint staff here, I am just a forum member that is requesting it before there is a flame war that derails this thread.
Also, Adblock doesnt block popups (thats done directly by firefox) but rather it block banner images, pop overs, etc. XP SP2 does not do that.

I'm sorry. I am not a fanboy of any operating system. I use three actually. On my current computer I run windows for normal apps, then hit a switch to boot up my Linux on the partitioned part of the HD. I use Linux to run all my servers that i host. My next computer is 95% most likely going to be a G5 with dual 2.5's. So thanks for making an assumption that I am a fanboy.
And my post was completely acceptable. He asked what our favorite feature was and I responded with and elaborate way of saying "I don't have a favorite because I don't see why its all that great." Not only that, but the name of this thread is "The Official Firefox thread." Not the "What feature do you like best thread." If you label a thread as the official thread of that topic, then anyone can post anything as long as it relates to that topic. It's a universal forum rule. So therefore I was completely inbounds to post what I did.
Please, if you want to "flame" or whatever that post was, then please, pay attention to the small things.

Yes, this is the Official Firefox thread. You can talk about anything related to Firefox.
That being said, I don't see how you can not like firefox. Even at it's core, without anything added, it is miles above IE. Just that fact that you can customize your buttons and veiw .pngs how they were meant to be seen should change your mind. Not only that, but Firefox is a small application, able to fit on and run from a thumb drive! Even after that there is more. It's faster than IE, because it isn't loaded down with virii and spyware. Think about that for a second. Two applications that essentialy do the same thing. One does less than the other, but is so much more bulky and stagnent. The other, which is smaller and faster, does infinitly more than the other because people can write expansions for it.
Face the facts. Firefox owns IE. There is no question.

Really? My copy is slightly slower than IE, and it often takes up more memory.
Then again, I'm running 0.9. Is there really such a big difference between versions?

The only way it could possibly run slower is if you have a plug-in installed that is a cpu hog. Also, IE must be completly clean, which is impossible.
WHY HAVEN'T YOU UPGRADED MAN!!!

IE does render faster then FF, but I still can't stand to use IE on my computer because of the damn holes in security. Your browser, no matter how fast it is should not do two things. Run in the OS level, and should not be able to write to the harddrive in areas like the registry, or other system level locations.

IE's security holes aren't really much of a problem with general browsing but more
to do with sensitve stuff like online banking etc.
The main problem with IE is like you said its 'tied' into the OS so much that you have
no idea what its really doing to your nice clean and safe system.
Another thing I hate about IE is that Javascipt can open a window with no title bar or
any bars at all and make it bigger than you screen so you can't close it. Now that is
just plain stupid!
