I have this -> http://www.wacom.com/graphire3/4x5.cfm The most important thing (for me at least) is that I can use it at wrrk (mac) and at home (winders)

I'm very pleased with it.. so far ^_^ Wish I could find the pic of how I have it "customized" hehe

Back when I had cash, I splurged and bought a Wacom Intuos2 12x12.  It is FREAKISHLY LARGE, and I would not advise getting one to MOST (not all) people.  Of all their tablets, I'd say the 6x8 is the best balance between size/features and cost.

That said, the Graphires are also quite decent, and you can always upgrade later once you know how much you are using it and can better justify the extra control.  Smiley

I made the same mistake. I don't have a problem using it when I spend time at home with the parents, but it also - in addition to being huge and difficult to hold in your lap - becomes a problem to store, especially if you're in a small room (dorm, in my case). I later purchased a 4x5 graphire3, and it works great.

Ananth: I got a Graphire 2 and I have the clip for the pen, so I'm guessing they just added it in new versions of the Graphire 2 or something.

Whoops, that must be the case. I don't remember Hawk's tablet having the clip, although maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I got the same jazzy dealie as Naku and i like it though i find the actual drawing area to be a little small and i have to reposition my hand a lot. the only way i can see to customize it would be to rip the plastic off and put something under it then snap it back on.  And after only two months of use the screen is kinda scratched up which i guess wont cause a problem for a while. Mine came with photosop elements and painter classic. while on the subject, I can't get photoshop to recognise different pressures for line thickness. if anyone knows how to fix that itd be greatly appreciated.

Question: What about Ink?  Anybody using a Wacom (HAS to be Wacom) tablet on a machine running Panther or Jaguar?  How's that working for you?  Is it a worthwhile replacement for the keyboard and mouse? Or are you guys not using it at all outside of the graphic apps?

Ink is not a replacement for keyboard and mouse, imho.  It IS, however, a very neat technology, that has the potential for more effective uses down the line (such as a tablet pc, for instance).  It hurts nothing to have it around, but I really don't use it other than to play with it.

Until resently I have been doing pencil drawings mostly. I now want to start inking and coloring digitally, so I thought a pad would be a good Idea.
The wizard thgingy on the Wacom webpage tells me that I need an Intuos2. However, that is far too expensive, so I was wondering if a Graphire would do..?
And what's the deal with the Volito pads? How are they different from the Graphire2/3?

Hey all, I hate to bring this old topic back up again - and if it's out of place just ignore it (sniff) but I need to know one more thing...

I'm going for the Graphire3 line of Wacom tablets. However I need to know about size. If size isn't an issue and you don't notice the smaller edition then I'll go for the Wacom3 Graphire Classic. However if it is a problem (as in you're constantly finding yourself halting in Photoshop and thinking "damn, outside the pressure boundry again") then I'll have to go for the larger Graphire 3 XL.

So... does it matter to much?
