Just include that in your code and the alpha transparencies will be visible in IE. Thank You and Good Night.

Lots to say, lots to say.  Let's do this in order then:

Dark Prism: Thank you very much.  I have been thinking of 6 frames.  We'll see how things go!

Inigo: w00t indeed.

Nismorack: I feel like now you are just treating me like an idiot.  I know preference is the deciding factor in browser choice.  Also, I know more frames mean longer story.  Please, stop treating me like an inferior.

slocky: Viva la revalution de FireFox!  I'm thinking about buying one of their shirts too!

Dark Prism: w00t.

Firewalker: I have already put in code that uses JavaScript (I believe) to correct this problem for IE.  I've seen it work, I've seen it not work.  In all honesty, I was thinking about redoing the website layout before this transparency thing became an issue, so we may not have to worry about this much longer.  Any suggestions/ideas/concepts for a new layout are definately welcome.

Well, that was a lot of talk, but not as much as I had hoped on the eyebrow topic.  If you could, go back to the bottom of page one, look at the 'brows and let me know what you all think.  Thanks.

You'd have to change the hair colour if you use those eyebrows, for the simple fact that they wont be distinguishable from the hair and just end up making a mess, which is why I suggested altering the shape instead...

That's just my take. Anyway for new site stuff, just use a solid background and make jpg buttons with fake transparencies if you want to keep the same type of look.

The fact is, Firefox is outstandingly superior to IE, in every way.

I totally agree. I started using Firefox a while ago, and not only is it a better, more secure browser, but the interface and layout is just ... nice. Those tabs, like in Mac OSX's Safari, are one of my favorite features, along with the Bookmarks toolbar across the top, where you can handily put your most visited links for easy access.

Sorry, I guess that was off topic. To stay on, I like how the eyebrows overlap the hair ... it's a nice touch. Good work. ^_^

I just kind of feel like I have to step in on this. I use Firefox, and it is wildly superior to any other browser I have used before.

But Nismorack has a damn valid point. IE comes with your computer. It's already there, it's already installed, no hassle involved. Tell me, why would someone want to download another additional browser, when the one they have works fine with almost every web-site that they'll ever visit? Nobody is going to change their browser just so that they can read one extra comic.

Just on the side: it took me about two weeks to download flash 6, and the latest version of quicktime. Not because I have the world's slowest internet connection (because I do, in fact, have DSL), but simply because I am a lazy shit. Everytime I accessed newgrounds, I got a face full of "you need macromedia flash player!", and then I just left.
Many many people will do exactly the same thing. In fact, the main reason why I actually downloaded Firefox, was because it has the tab function (like ananth mentioned). I can open links in a new tab by simply clicking my mouse wheel = uber practical.

But the bottom line is, that even if Firefox beats the living shiznit out of IE, nobody is going to go out of their way and get a new browser, just to that they can correctly view a couple more web-sites. If you are going for the big crowd, you have to make your site IE compatible.

Before I begin, I just wanted to share this Little Gamers strip with you all to sort of, I don't know, show that every one, including drunk foreigners, hate MS.

Problems With MSIE

Now, on to the good stuff.

Firewalker: I'll figure out my new layout.  As for the 'brows, I would go with a lighter hair color if I did that style.  My other thought: his hair is almost covering his eyes.  You couldn't really see his eyebrows anyway.  I modeled that character after myself.  You can't see my eyebrows, yet I convey emotion just fine.  I think...

ananth: w00t!  The writer likes FireFox!  The revolution finally has a popular partner!  Oh, and it is a great honor to have you compliment my work.  Both you and Hawk do such awesome art.  I bow before you!  ::bow::

munk: Read the thread.  Seriously.  I have addressed every point you made with one statement: screw the public.  I'm not making a comic for the general masses.  I'm making it for that small minority that has the same, weird sense of humor I do.  As it turns out, if you share my sense of humor, you also feel like having Firefox, so it works out for me.  Also, I think you and others are making way too big a deal about this supposed "hassel" that comes with getting FireFox.  Normally when I do a big download, I watch some TV or draw or whatever while I wait.  In the time it took to download and install FF, I might have been able to draw one sketch of a guys foot.  Even on a slow connection, like my mother's DSL, it took maybe five minutes tops to download AND install it.  It isn't hassel, it is just people being arrogant and not wanting to change.

No. Wrong.
Of course, downloading and installing a new browser is not a physical struggle, and the chances of someone breaking out in sweat over this task is just as unlikely. But people are lazy.

And maybe they don't want to change. You were an example right out of the book, as I might add. But from what I gather, you are changing the layout?

Also: "screw the public". Congratulations, I'm about one step away from comparing you to a Linux user.

I'm not quite sure if "Linux User" is an insult or a weird geek thing that I haven't heard of yet, but whatever.  That doesn't matter.  Done.

I know people are lazy.  I'm lazy.  Done.

How is it possible for you to tell me I don't want to change after I said in my last post I was thinking of CHANGING the layout of my website?  That doesn't make a lot of sense.  Done.

If you don't like me or my site, you're more than welcome to not visit my site and not participate in this thread.  I don't advertise, so my traffic flow means nothing to me.  I only check it 'cause I like to brag about it to my geek friends.  Done.

You want me to go back and capitalize the "were" in my sentence? You know, the part where I'm saying that you were an example right out of the book? And then the part where I am actually asking you whether you will change your layout or not?

Have you read my post?

And when I said Linux user, I was just referring to the whole underdog/revolution masquerade.

Why do you care about my "masquarade" so much?

Also, before ananth comes back in and yells at us, this thread has two topics.  Just a forewarning, neither of them is Matthew sucks.  You can start a new thread about that in the General area if you so wish.  Another forewarning, I probably won't come visit.

TOPICS:

1.  My eyebrows: good, bad, or sucktastic
2.  .PNGs and how they relate to IE vs. FireFox

SUBTOPIC:

1.  Why FireFox is better or worse than IE.

NOTE: Look for my new Firefox > MSIE comic tomorrow at Teh Matthew J Comics

ummm and to be on topic

i happen to really like they eyebrows, even if you shouldnt be able to see them, but if you [sence its your comic] dont like them, take`m out, or put them in only when you need them or something....

as for the layout thing, i personally liked your background, id almost say, kill the quality and use gifs just to keep it

and firefox is better :)

damn... a total discussion about your own personal opinion.

If you work 9 hours a day as a webdeveloper, around 50 hours a week... then you have a reason to cry about how ie/firefox sucks, if you just have a basic site layout... then fix it...

Your site isn't really a tough job to make a 100% crossbrowser proof, so the whole 43.2% is still the half of your total ammount of visitors....

You can't just tell them to download something they don't want to in order to view your stuff Sad

I've been using firefox for a long time, at my work we get around 1,5 million unique visitors a month. If 43% of that ammount couldn't see the shit I produce then I would be jobless.

Make it work in ie, then bug fix for the rest of the browsers...  : (

here are my browser stats...
Explorer Explorer 2528 38.36%
Firefox Firefox  2170 32.92%
Other Other 624 9.47%
Safari Safari 462 7.01%
Opera Opera 264 4.01%
Mozilla Mozilla 248 3.76%
Netscape Netscape 118 1.79%
Konqueror Konqueror 66 1.00%
AOL AOL 55 0.83%
Crazy Browser Crazy Browser 16 0.24%
AvantGo AvantGo 10 0.15%
Firebird Firebird 9 0.14%
Camino Camino 8 0.12%
Epiphany Epiphany 3 0.05%
Galeon Galeon 3 0.05%
Java Java 3 0.05%
Avant Browser Avant Browser 2 0.03%
Netcaptor Netcaptor 1 0.02%
Shiira Shiira  1 0.02%

If any of them have something to complain about then I'm sure yo check it out

I understand the point of making a site viewable in all browsers, but my site is not my income.  If it sucks, if no one ever visits it, I still have to get up, go to classes, and work in the library.  I understand that a real site has to follow these rules or it fails, but since it is my own little thing, I can do as I wish with it.

I appreciate all the commentry going on here, but let's settle this once and for all: I understand why a site should be made for all browsers.  I get it; I really do.  However, I am conciously choosing not to do that right now.  My site, my opinion, my rules, end of dicsussion.

So, who likes my eyebrows?

Edit : Whoops, missed a reply!  My bad!

Andetus : Thanks for the input.  I'll be deciding soon as to the eyebrow thing.  If I decide to get rid of them, I'll just have to come up with another way of conveying emotion.  Also, I too like the background, but I was, before even posting this thread, was considering changing the site layout.  I'm just a busy little college student though and don't always have all the time I would like.  Someday it may change though.

And you're right.... it's your site, but you make it for others to see your stuff...
So it's not for yourself now is it? Smiley

I burnt half my eyebrow off, once.

Does that count as on-topic?
