I'm thinking this might be good enough to get more than derisive laughter and suggestions to take an art class, any art class, if posted at conceptart.org. Is it hubris?

And more importantly, what do you think? I call it Fraulein Niemand.

It's not laughter-worthy, jsyk. It's good!

To me though, it seems something along the lines of a fine arts piece, although conceptual. A lot conceptart.org's artists are concept artists/designers/illustrators/animators by profession or study and they do a lot more technical work, so to speak. (See: Sketchbook forum on concept art)

It would be more helpful if you told us more about the piece and what you're trying to accomplish through it so we can give you a more solid CC. Smiley

Well, it'll be tricky to explain my motivations since I don't want to give away certain influences which would be fun if anyone could guess. And I'm also interested in what you think I may have been trying to accomplish. I suppose on reflection I'm not really looking for criticism at all, but impressions. Boy is my face red.

Thanks for the kind words anyway. Smiley

This piece honestly reminds me of the artwork you'd usually see accompanying Tool's music videos and promotional stuff.  I also mean that in a good way, it's cool! Cheesy

I guess this is somewhat of a critique, the black "shadow" that you've colored around the edges seems like it should continue near the top as well, for some reason it feels disconnected without it... (I'm trying to think of a word my painting teacher used, but her reasoning behind "if you use one color, use it at least two more times, otherwise your painting won't be well rounded")

Otherwise, it looks really good.

Hmm, yes, it probably should have more shadow. I just ran out of room at the top and didn't think about it. >_>

Incidentally, thank you both.

The reason why I say it should continue at the top is because under his/her arms, it does get fairly close, however there's a bit of an aura around him/her that keeps it from getting too close.

At the top, there's enough room for the aura and the darkness to share...

I like it how it is it reminds me of a work that I did in college that was with pastels and how i would work the paper with an eraser to smear the pastel wax around the paper its a interesting technique and a solid work. I would like to see this in a series of prints that convey a story or idea. But all in all good job keep up the good work.
