HEEEEELP !!! I f****d up a university's iMac...

Ok, so, we have 6 computers in our classroom, three pcs and three iMacs. I recently got myself Puppy Linux and wanted to try out 'in public'. So, I put it on the pc, it worked fine, then we wanted to see if it would load up on the iMac, and it did, beautifully, except for the sound btw, but anyway, to do it, I went to 'settings', and changed the boot priority to cd, or (other OS cd, as the label said). So, we power it down, don't save anything, take the cd out, and now when it boots, it comes to a stop and says 'cannot find bootable devices'  ...so ...umm ...please help ? =(

Have you changed the boot priority back to what it was before?

no, because I didn't know how to, I googled a bit now and saw that I can do that from Open Firmware, and just typing 'boot disk' .... d'you reckon that would work ? Have I mentioned I'm a mac noob =) ?

surprisingly, I couldn't find somebody doing the same thing on the net I'm feeling exceptionally stupid now =)

I only know how to change it on a PC. You'll have to ask someone who's actually used a Mac before.

that WAS the predominant idea for posting here I'll run over first thing in the morning and try to fix it =) but I've never seen what goes under bios for macs in person before... that should be fun

One easy way is to hold down the Option key when you start it up. Press the power button and immediately press and hold down Option. After a few seconds it should show you a screen that lists the bootable devices (Hard Drive included), then you can select it with the directional pad and hit enter for the hard drive.

After that it should just boot into OS X. Then go back to System Preferences>Startup Disk and make sure the internal drive is selected before you quit out.
