IMHO, email Hawk, ask him if you can use some of his images to make a personal wallpaper and then photoshop it up. I'm sure he's got a couple lying around and he's not a total tyrant with his work. Wink

Aaah, there I hit a problem. I'm fairly good at programming, or I like to think so and others tend to agree. Smiley But when it comes to photoshopping (or any other graphically creative thing) turns out like a drawing of a 10 year old. One that got his hands on Photoshop.

Too bad the few rotten apples ruin it for the rest of us. Sad

Wlu Hawk.

i was looking through my folder of wallpapers and saw the bunnisher and an eve wallpaper, but that's all i have.  what were the others?

i think once applegeeks gets some major recognition, like penny arcade or pvp, hawk may change his mind.  don't know who else remembers this, but bill waterson of 'calvin and hobbes' fame never permitted products featuring his characters.  there are thousands of those car window stickers adorning cars with calvin taking a leak on something.  there's always going to be some jackass that uses other people's work without consent to cash in on the popularity.

Well, that's not Calvin, they never claimed it to be (that I'm aware of) he just looks similar.

Which is why they're able to get away with it.

.. but doesn't that mean that they're perfectly legal?  All they did was use the same art style and hair style, the Peanuts use basically the same art style.  The character of Calvin isn't at all imitated in those stickers.

Moral? No.

Greedy? Yes.

I'm with Hawk on this, he put a lot of work into his art and making it look very nice - if you then see the exact same pieces used elsewhere and being sold for profit with no permission, credit or acknowledgement of the work, that pretty much takes the piss!

Agreed. It's wrong, it's been taken care of, and wallpapers are not available. "You don't need an entire wardrobe of shirts that correspond to your favourite things (quote)," nor desktop backgrounds for them either. Go find something artsy.

That's all I have to say about that.

I feel sorry for poor Calvin there, Calvin and Hobbes was one of my favourite comics growing up. Sad

I wasn't arguing against Hawk taking down his wallpapers because of copyright stuff, all I said was that I didn't think that that was Calvin.  Completely different.

I've had my desktop pictures as Eve and Got Root? for so long. I never thought to back them up when my last hard drive crashed. I would gladly pay for both. Le sigh. Any chance we'll get them up on the store?

In a case like that, I'd recommend emailing Hawk or Ananth.
