Nerdcore rap...MC Plus+...awesome name if you ask me lol

As for Southern Rap, I'm a big fan of Outkast..awesome beats and great lyrics (especially the old Aquamini days). I also like Ludacris a lot. He's just plain fun. Everything else sucks balls.

And Nick, awesome analysis of the old G-Funk era. (Regulators!!)

bawhawhawhaw, MC Plus+...didn't quite catch that when I first read it, but now that I get it I lol'd XD

Outkast is cool, so's Ludacris.  I have to say, to be completely honest, the South knows how to hold it down concerning rap.  New York had it and fell off, and it pains me to say that as a New Yorker; the West....I dunno about the West.  Right now it's the Midwest with Chi-town and the South...at least, at this point in time anyway....maybe we'll see a resurgence of East Cost or West Coast style soon, but right now they can't really hold it down...

...although, that Rock the Bells concert on the 28-29th.....they've got Wu-Tang Clan headlining with Rage Against the Machine...but I dunno how they're gonna be without Ol' Dirty, but that's just me.

i actually don't mind crunk and all that!  sure it's clearly stupid but that's part of its charm IMO.  it's not all about the gangsta lifestyle and what better medium for rappers to promote enjoying life or "getting crunk" than with the lifestyle itself emitted through the music.  Lil Jon is totally retarded.  no questions asked.  but homeboy's got money (no questions asked)... and some pretty dope beats!  i LOVE southern music's beats!

I mind crunk music, only because when I listen to it, it all sounds the same, at least to my ears.  It's like techno...which is ironic, because my friend Ryan gets pissed when I tell him that, yet he PLAYS techno and knows that House and Acid sound pretty much the same to most people outside of the genre. XD  Also, the lyrics in most crunk tracks just don't do it for me...I mean, I guess they make good dance tracks for the beats, but even there, I'm not real sure.

I'm in old school thing, because nowdays rap/hiphop is so violent.

The irony is that it's unnecessarily violent.
Definitely true right there.

I listen to rap here and there, either for the beats, or sometimes for the lyrics.  I'm not too hardcore on rap only because the subjects/topics are similar to me.  Sex, fights, guns, police, money, etc.  For me that gets boring after a while.  I admit I prefer to listen to Eminem because he actually sounds pissed when he says he is.  Also his lyrical skills are pretty clever, I enjoy his metaphors.  Other rappers don't put much emotion in their voice (to me).  I don't care for Lil Jon, he sounds stupid when he raps.  Also Pop Lock and Drop It sounds stupid to me too.  Only drop it I want to do is smash the radio when that song comes on.

Some rappers (besides Eminem) I would listen:
2pac
Ludacris
T.I.
Roots
Linkin Park (when they rap in their songs)
Nas
Jay-Z

Hey man, I got nothin but respect for the old school, if it wasn't for the old school, nobody'd know what time it was.  I wasn't attacking you, just elaborating on a point you made which I agree with: rap (at least, mainstream rap) is unnecessarily violent. Why? 'Cuz it's popular, and will continue to be until the rest of the hip hop community, hell, the rest of the WORLD gets sick of it.  I remember Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff; all great stuff I still listen to.  Hell, I'll admit it, I've got Big Willie Style still on my iTunes library; when people chuckle, I go, "He can outrap most emcees without resorting to using "nigga," "bitch," "ho," or any form of violence in his lyrics. Name me someone else who was mainstream who can do it."

Generally, I don't get a response.

I miss those days, man, but I also enjoy me some gangsta rap as well, 'cuz sometimes I'm just in the right mood that requires I listen to it.

If there had to be a list of the greatest white rappers in the world, Eminem would definitely be near the top of that list.

Oh, my friend Jon linked me to this video on youtube, to some guy I had NEVER heard of who was big back in the ol' school days.  Artist's name is Snow, track is called "Informer" (I think)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm4JMHL4tuE

I had to watch it again, 'cuz I didn't believe that voice was coming outta that guy's mouth D:

Holy shit I remember that song! And I agree with Will Smith. He outraps most if not all the mainstream rappers today. I just hated that Welcome to Miami song lol.

actually, there are more rappers like that than you think!  For example, Kanye West can do that... the thing is, he prefers not to because, well face it, niggas, bitches and hoes DO exist and it's all about what you rap about.  Will Smith (a lyrical genius, still in my iTunes library too) is a "party starter" and raps about the fun things in life for the most part, right?  But Kanye West is a "conscious rapper" who likes social issues with the occasional dash of politics.  When you're "gettin' jiggy wit' it" niggas, bitches and hoes don't usually enter the arena but when you're talking about "gold diggers", they tend to come up.

Another one, Lupe Fiasco.  end of story!

Kanye West is a little bitch who's full of himself. He was good at producing back in the day (think old MOP [ante up!]). But his rhymes suck, his beats suck, he just sucks. I didn't have any respect for him..even before his "George Bush doesn't like black people" comment. Seriously, I hate G.W as much as the next guy but that comment was just stupid, even Chris Tucker had a "you're an indiot" look. The guy's just an attention whore that dresses preppy and thinks he's the shit. If you want a conscious rapper just listen to Immortal Technique.

OK, I'll give you Lupe  (Especially on Food and Liquor, a great album Cheesy), but I ain't giving you Kanye; I almost hear Kanye slang the nigga-word as much as Cube did back in the day..   And while you're right, niggas, bitches, and hos do exist;  if you don't experience them, no need to rap about them, that's how I see it...and considering that Kanye dresses like a prep (Again, no hate, just calling it as I see it), I find that a little hard to believe.  I do think though, that Kanye's a decent lyricist, just that "G.W. hates black people thing." really incensed me.  I was basically like "OK, I'll agree, but he hates tons of other people too...like....basically everybody...we're not the only ones he hates, man D:"

But wing, I will give you Lupe Fiasco, as I said. He's a great rapper and does not conform to the stereotype, and transcends it, which shows his power as an artist. Also, if anybody hasn't heard "Food and Liquor," download it, buy it, whatever. I don't care, it's awesome. Go listen to it. NOW D:<

OK, let's get something clear Jonas, and you know this as well as I do:

Comparing Kanye West to Immortal Technique is like comparing a .22 caliber pistol to an Atomic Bomb.

Immortal's more socially conscious because that's what he makes his raps ABOUT.  He didn't even say "G.W. hates black people." He even goes so far as to say. "G.W blew up the towers."  Frankly, that takes some major balls to say, and Kanye needs to grow a pair before he opens his mouth.  Immortal has no illusions that he's hardcore leftist, he acknowledges it, and talks about things that most people have never even heard of (Some of the stuff he spits about I had to look up to be honest...as in, holy shit, I had to go to a library X_X  The CIA did some crazy shit on people)

I watched this thing on MTV the other day.  It was the top 10 emcees in the game (right now) and Lil Wayne won.

I highly disagree with this.

Firstly, Lil Wayne only raps about the same thing over and over (ie. hoes, being a G and his money and diamonds).  Sure he's got a billion similes and even more metaphors for them but it's ridiculous.  Secondly, not doubting his skills as a rapper, but has anyone else noticed that all his best verses are in EVERYONE ELSE'S songs?  Seriously, listen to a Weezy song and it's lacks such flow that it almost makes you feel retarded.  However, he drops dope verses in everyone else's songs... that's wiggity-wack!

I'll have to look up the list they had, but to be honest, I'm probably going to disagree with the whole list, but I definitely disagree that he should not be tops.

Then again, this is MTV, so they can't have an honest opinion about music.

Darkshine....THANK YOU!  Gotta agree that he's all in it for himself...which is why I never believed he was standing up for people in New Orleans when he made that statement.  Just usin' controversy to sell more records.  *shakes head*

BTW, what do you guys think of 50 Cent's challenge to Kanye's new album?  It's all publicity, sure.  50 is still gonna perform songs...no matter what....even if he mess up at a recording like the BET Awards.

can you really quickly enlighten us on said challenge?  i rarely ever watch BET since Viacom bought them out many years back... now, i find that there's very little that's black OR entertaining
