So those of you who use Linux have probably discovered by now that Apple intentionally broke the DAAP protocol in iTunes 7 so that things other than iTunes couldn't connect to its DAAP shares.  Does anyone have a lead on a good DAAP server for OSX?  I'd really rather leave OSX on my eMac than switch to Linux.

Invincibility is absolute. Security is relative.

You could downgrade to iTunes 6, which to me is a perfectly capable media player...

Is that possible under OSX?  I can only find walkthroughs for Windows for doing that.

Find somewhere you can download iTunes 6 and overwrite iTunes 7?

Dunno if that'll work, maybe unless some behind the scenes stuff has changed as well that affects it.

Try versiontracker.com or macupdate.com for an iTunes 6 download.

Actually, I've already discovered that MacPorts includes mt-daapd, which apparently does exactly what I want.  Huzzah!

Now I just need to figure out how to get a program started at boot, and maybe have some kind of watchdog make sure to restart it if it dies.

I used have the same problem. When "upgraded" back to iTunes 6 all came in place.
