1. Apple's rational is "Why send an MMS when you have Email!" Apple forgot some people don't get emails on their phones.
2. You can send SMS via AIM. I'm sure AT&T loved that idea...wait. Arent Texts free under ATT plans? I have no explanation.
3. They're coming, probably in the same form that apple used for iPod games - through the apple store.

I don't understand why it cant silence the ringtone completely...I was in class and had it on silent and sms sounds started going off like crazy...I thought my teacher was going to come unglued...

right now I am downgrading from 1.1.1 so I can jailbreak my iphone.

Once I have it jailbroke where can I go to download all the cool apps I see people using?

How are you silencing it? Turning the volume down using the buttons on the side, or using the Silence button? If you flip that button towards the back, it will silence everything.

Or you might just have a wonky iPhone. Try restoring through iTunes.

AppTapp Installer (Think along the lines of an RPM package manager) or http://iphone.exploit.org.

I agree with Shmi. If you're using the actual Silence switch on the side, and its still making noise, then there is an error somewhere in the system software. Just turning down the volume using the volume keys mutes the Ringer only.

or once you downgrade to 1.1.1, navigate towards jailbreakme.com on the iPhone and it'll install apptapp for you.

Yea I am silencing the phone on the side...I pressed the top botton but it makes it go to sleep but it still rings.

Even with the side turned down all the way you still can hear stuff.

why o why does the iphone not let you foward texts...or send a txt to multiple people...it only allows one at a time...surely they will fix this eventually. Any hacks or mods for this if phone is jailbroken?

There are no replacement SMS apps, but that's a really good idea.

There actually is an MMS app now (to send picture messages).
