I don't get any trouble with my last name... I mean, it's Smith, most people can handle that. My first name though is Orin, which, logically (at least I would think) would be easy for people to pronounce (pronounced just like it's spelled: Or-in), but people butcher it all the time. In high school I went by Liam for a while because it sounds cooler and people don't seem to have a problem with that.

Lol, is Liam your middle name, or did you just choose something like Ananth did?  Cheesy

My last name is Grasso simply pronounced as grass-oh.  most common misspronounciations are Grass-ee-oh, Grass-coe, Grey-so. Most people don't bother to use my first name though it's not at all hard to pronounce (Brandon), most of my teachers in highschool just called me by my last name. it's even how I introduce myself at parties and whatnot.

people always have a hard time saying my name properly.  They slur it into one syllable: Gram.  I hate the sound of it. it goes right through me like nails on a chalkboard..

that is why I started to write out my name as grey-um, but more recently as greyum (no hyphon, see).  This has more or less just become an internet handle if and when I cannot use graham (such as greyum.deviantart.com and greyum.port5.com)

my first name is jamie - but everyone eventually shortens that to J
so for years now i've been spelling that as Jai, which i thought was a pretty obvious spelling
but i get endless deliveries and especially phone calls where there's a big pause people trying and work out how to pronouce it and end up with Jaayyaaaayy??

it's be a lot easier if we were all just indentified by serial numbers that were barcoded on our right palms. that'd save all the confusion :-)

My last name is pronounced just like it's spelled, Gerstenberger. But it's long enough to intimidate people and is often mispronounced.

No problem to pronounce that
Sounds like some of your ancestors have their origins in the german-spoken area.

When I was visiting the US in '99, the immigration officer wanted to have a little speak with me (Why I visit US or if I plan to do crimes or ...). Then she tried to say my surname. Well. It is a short and easy one. But this ugly, very german Ü in it... Unfortunatly I cannot explain how to pronounce it, because there is no counterpart in english.

Well. In the end, she gave up and just called me, a 19 year old boy, sir :-D

My first name is Christian, however on all the scan-tron class sheets, there are only spaces for 7 letters, so I was always "Christia" to the teacher. First day, as always, they assumed it was a girls name, like Christina, or Christy or some other name like that. EVERY time I had a new teacher, I would always have to raise my hand when they called it, and tell them what my name really was. That sucked.

Man do I feel you there.  I had the same problem well because I have the same name.  It also bothers me a bit that they don't know how to spell Christian.  I may be a little optomistic with people but I always thought that such a large population of people are actually religously Christian I would figure they would know how to spell the freaking name.  But no they dont.  And my last name they always spell it either reve or reeves.  Its just reeve thanks.  It sucks cuz I will always have this problem for my entire life.

My last name isn't to bad but alot of people have to ask how to properly say it... but it's "Burt" so i just say: "think of sherbert", but really it isn't that hard. It always get spelt wrong or i am asked if it's and I or a E in the middle, then i say no it's a U. lol

Rather annoying because people think it's funny to burp... burt, burp, yeh, get me? also i've had names like 'Sherbert' (the type of sweet if you havn't heard of it.... )

Last name's Barbe, but the e is silent. So Barbie-Doll was always popular.

My last name is Izzi. And no matter how many times I spell it out to people I have to tell them again and again. I mean, it's not that difficult its only got two different letters in it!!!

People also like spelling it with y, ie, e, ee on the end, ss instead of zz and more.
I've start using it as my first name as people can pronounce it, even if they can't spell it, mainly because of the fact if I say the shortened version of my first name - Tom - people assume I said Jon/John. WTF!?! Are you deaf or just taking the piss?!? So Izzi is now an easy name to say to people. Cheesy

If your wondering it's Italian despite the fact I'm practically in no way Italian - genetically speaking, if you work it out I'm some small fraction Italian... somewhere. IIRC I'm also part Scottish somehow.
