Oh yeah, that was great.  I check my email, and it says I have a PM from the Applegeeks forums.  Now I haven't been here much since the 5 most recent posts stopped appearing on the front page, so I knew something was up.  I come here, I login, and I check my PMs.

Huge Asian cock.  Lovely spam I just got.  The member's name was "Brad Gibson", so you might want to take care of that.

As someone who uses phpBB, you might also might want to go into your sql server, look at the *_privmsg_text table, and delete those PMs people got so that no one else has to see it.

I'm aware of the spams that's going around in the forum. Please delete the PM that says IMPORTANT NEWS AND INFORMATION!!!. Please do not open that. I'm working on getting this fixed.

If anybody knows any spam blockers for this forum simple, please let me know.

 I'm sure it was sent to almost everyone. I was not-so-pleasantly surprised to find it in my inbox. ;_;

On a related note, if you see a thread started by a spam bot please report it. There was one earlier and people were posting in it. Best to ignore a thread that's going to be rid of. Smiley

My question, other than how do we find said person responsible, is how do you spam message board members? Other than going through and sending it to each person, how does one do that? Well, I no longer plan to get emails about AG messages, checked off that box earlier today.

This 1 never even made it as far as MailWasher - only found out about it when I was looking in my gmail spam folder to see if a test email I'd sent myself [experimenting with Thunderbird] had ended up there. Luckily it didn't display any image, just showed the text content of the message.

As for how to track the scumbag down - don't know, though if this forum logs IP addresses [edit: having just posted I see that it does] that might be a start. I do know it's possible though, there was a story in the news a couple of years ago about a spammer who'd been found in... New Zealand I think it was. Whoever found him posted all his details [name, address, phone number, etc] on the net, & the spammer ended up getting bricks through his windows, & was too scared to go home.  Grin
