I like this idea, now only to talk my friend into putting this on his machine...

does it have a backlight keyboard?

because it uses the light sensor to sees if it's too dark to light up your keys.

It would work with any light sensor on the machine. Doesn't the MacBook dim the screen when you turn off the lights? My PowerBook does so I'd think yes. It's just a question of finding where the light sensor.

macbooks do not have ambient light sensors. they are the equivalent of an iBook, not a powerbook. Powerbook's equivalent is the MBP. That, and the only openings on the macbook's surface is for the keys, one slot exactly the shape of each key. A light sensor wouldn't work too well.

theres a firmware update out for the MBs too if anyone didnt hear, finally fixes the fans so they run better. woot, no more lap burning.

I know, I just figured that they would add that feature since it's only a small thing.

I wish they had, but it's not that vital. I set it manually most of the time anyhow, dimming it for longer battery life.

Not sure. I kept changing mine on my Macbook until I found something reasonable that worked well.

On my powerbook 12" 1.5ghz 10.4.7
I changed
my $x = $a[0];
to
my $x = $a[1];

in smack.pl
and it works.
Got it off of the medallia blog thanks to GeniusJT.
Set my sensitivity at 2. Could use to tweaking, works ok for now. Hope that helps.
