[Solved!]

How do I make it less sensitive, would the number I edit go up or down?

The install guide has been getting a lot of traffic since it was linked to on the top of that blog post. Apparently it helped a lot of people, which makes me feel good, I did the original guide in 30 minutes but I have probably save other people hours. I made some minor edits to incorperate what some users reported.

By the way, the desktop wallpaper is different every time because I have wallpaper rotation turned on. I didn't turn it off because there was no reason to.

VirtueDesktops now sapports this...kinda. Apparently it will sapport it in full in the future.

Like it says on the blog now. If you replace steps 1-7 on xXdaveXx's guide with "install VirtueDesktops" it works like a charm.

sweet i liked virtuedesktops when i looked at it - i've no need for a virtual desktop solution, but of the ones i've seen, i think virtuedesktops has the most promise
just a little unfortunate saying that your MacBook's got VD......

Ah, you beat me to the macsaber mention.

But to gauge the full geekiness of this application you need to check this BoingBoing post which links to a video using the app to recreate the "Star Wars Kid" video with a Macbook.

The problem is, how would you use this to recreate a Darth Maul-esque 2-handed saber?  I don't think it would be practicable to balance a macbook in each hand while spinning around and doing typical lightsaber fight gymnastics...

if it requires terminal to run, then it'll just have to be open to run it, simple as that. Not too much trouble though... just hide terminal.

if it is started with a terminal command, then you can start it as a background process by.... i think... putting a & at the end of the launch command? is that right? then it'll run and run and run in background until you kill it or shutdown/restart

putting an & at the end of a line command just lets you use the same terminal to run more line commands before that command finishes.  It'll still die once you kill the terminal.

try it out with this one: /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &

makes your background a screensaver until you close down the terminal.  What you CAN do however is whip open the handy dandy script editor and put in:

do shell script " <put script here > " then the script will run until you shutdown or restart your computer... I'm not really sure how to make it stop otherwise Tongue

ei:
do shell script "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &"

Hey, this is great, and thanks for the great guide xXdaveXx! My only question is, does it only move to the right desktop? Because whenever I do the tap, it only goes to the right desktop, but the video makes it look like he can move it to the right as well... Wondering if I messed up here, or if there is something else to it.

[edit] Quick follow up, but does changing the number variable lower in the smack.pl file lower the sensitivity as well, or is that something else that I have to learn to deal with? It's not a real big issue, but I have noticed that sometimes when I move my legs it'll switch the screen for me.

Alright, I feel like an idiot.  I have read through everything I can find on this, but I still can't get it to work.  Now I don't even care really about the app, but I just feel like an idiot because I can't figure it out.  I installed the virtue desktop thing, downloaded the other 2 files (ams and smackbook) moved the ams to the smackbook folder. Everytime i try to run the script in terminal it says "AMS hardware present and initialized"  That's it though.  I don't know what else I have to do??

Did you make sure VirtueDesktops was running first?
