How many people are having difficulties with aniverse.com.  It is the most unreliable IRC network I've ever joined.  I often spend hours trying to connect to it.  Today, infact, I've spent five hours trying to get online.  It's almost getting to the point where it is far too much hassle.

aye, i agree aniverse might not be the most reliable irc server on the planet. but seriously, don't kill yourself over it.

and i would like to ask everyone, please don't create a new thread every time something happens to aniverse.

#applegeeks has a new home on Undernet

Server: irc.undernet.org

Also I'm making this thread the official IRC thread. Any questions about #applegeeks should be posted here.

Thanks.

I keep getting the "Cant find port" error... what's the port for undernet? I'm using 6667, so, it should work... unless my computer is on crack ;__;

Well, I would've posted in the IRC thread I made back a while a go... but couldn't find it for some reason.  Well, now you are on undernet things are rosey  Cheesy

By the way, if you need anyone to support the channels registration (I'm sure you have plenty of people, but it never hurts to ask) I'm already registered with undernet and don't mind giving my support.

Just a side note. Me and a friend of mine used to have a channel on Undernet. However, we considered it slightly too unstable for our taste. It's very netsplit prone. So we moved our channel to Sorcerynet. Of course we didn't have X in it either. Just thought I'd share my experiences.

can anyone recommend some irc apps for os x
i used to use ircle loads at uni - and mirc on the peecees
but they always seem to have a million little windows all over the place - and i'm thinking i'd kinda just like something simple - like a console based text only one that i could run in terminal with transparent windows so i can keep an eye on channels without it obscuring the rest of the stuff i'm doing... does that make any sense??

XChat Aqua is kind of decent, if annoying.

or, if you wanna use the command line, download bitchx using fink.

edit - i'm a dunce - didn't even see the IRC link in the menu bar at the top of every page, otherwise i'd have seen the list of apps there. DOH!

ok.....so i'm more embarrased about asking this question than that time i was tricked into admitting i was a virgin in a crowd of people i didn't know on spring break '99....that story aside wtf is "irc"?

i'm sure i could figure it out on my own if i took all of 2 minutes to google it or something, but posting my question here takes all  of 1 minutes, and 4 years as a cs major has made me all about efficiency.

ps i'm not a virgin anymore.   ...thank god

IRC is multiplayer Notepad

IRC is much like the old java based chat rooms, simple text ony interface chatrooms that run independantly unlike Yahoo and AOL chatrooms.

eureka!!  nicely described, thank you.  i gathered that much but was too shy to ask.  all my friends refer to me as "the computer guy".....so asking another was almost like a admitting defeat......but then i got over myself.
