Glorified toy commercial? But I loved transformers! Bah, I didnt go out and get shitloads of toys.

With US Today making such uninformed statements like that, one does have to question their legitimacy as journalists.

I think I can safetly say that I'm one of the biggest Transformers nuts on the board.

But let's face it....that's all the cartoons were for; to market the toy-line.  The same goes for Thundercats, He-Man et al.  Remember how a new character would appear in the cartoon and that week, the comercials for that character would start appearing?

Those of us who were kids in the 80's were lucky enough that the studios producing the cartoons were actually more concerned with producing a quality animation.  The fact that it was a 20 minute toy comercial was neither here nor there for them.

Hmm...I wonder if anybody owns the interactive rights to Thundercats?  Anyhow...

i caught a few thundercats episodes a year ago, or so, and i couldn't believe how bad they were.  i was a huge thundercats fan as a kid, but i couldn't stand watching them now that i'm older.  after that i made a pledge to not ruin any other childhood memories of shows i adored watching every saturday morning, or weekday afternoon.  i don't remember much of my childhood as it is, but i really don't want to skew the memories that i have left.
but damn could those shows sell merchandise.  tmnt figures were my crack back in the day.

So.  I heard a rumor that the transformers movie was planned to come out on the same day that Fantastic Four II was intending to come out, as well as Indiana Jones 4.

Anybody wanna hazard a guess as to which ones push their dates back or forward so as not to conflict with each other?

I figure Indiana Jones will have top spot on that weekend, although Transformers would be a tight second.  Compared to those two FF has no bloody chance.  But seeing as Spielberg is on board for both Indy and Transformers, apparently, i suppose its his call.

have they even begun any kind of production past the script for Indy 4? I remember an award show a few months back, AFI celebrates George Lucas, where Harrisson Ford when on stage and at the end of his speech said, "By the way, George, if you ever decide to go ahead with Indiana Jones 4, please do it soon while I'm young." which makes it sound like it hasnt begun anything, not at that point...

meh.

They have begun preproduction on Indiana Jones. Now that Revenge of the Sith is pretty much over and done with, Lucas said he will now focus on Indy with Speilberg. It's interresting that it's booked at the same time as Transformers. Given how Spielberg is working on both, I would imagine that he will pull some strings to get one or the other moved.

And ironically enough, most TV shows from the 80s, despite having so many kick-ass concepts, were really horrible. I have the first season of Transformers, and while I love them, I can barely convince myself to take out the DVDs. The animated movie, however, is a different story...  Grin

According to a post on TF movie producer Don Murphy's forum, design and location scouting has begun. What does this mean to mean and you? Nada. Yeah Paramount just absorbed Dreamworks but that usually doesn't effect on going projects...yet. Basically this is a good sign that a script is almost done and the movie is still go

Yeah, things seem to be rolling. We're still a long way away from 100%, but it's looking good.

That Paramount/Dreamworks thing really caught me off guard though. That's a HUGE merger. Paramount's gotta be thrilled they just bought the Shrek franchise.  Shocked

I really don't like Cyberton, or beastwars, or any of that stuff because it does not follow the G1 time line at all. It really bothers me. but that is my personal opionon. But when i have kids (if i ever have kids) im buying the g1 dvd's and all cartoons i like growing up for that matter and letting them watching it because cartoons today... they are lacking my friend. They are lacking.

I thought Beast Wars DID follow the timeline. I'm a fairly big Transformers nut, so that's the impression I've been under for the past 10 or so years.  Grin

The new series.. ehhhh... I liked the designs from Robots in Disguise, but the show was crap. I like anime, but for the most part, the new series' are garbage. Since the movie will be the next wave from Hasbro, I certainly hope MainFrame gets the rights to make the concept after that.

The Thransformers T.V. Started out taking place in the 80's. I believe Beast Wars took place in the late 90's and early 2000. (again not a Beast wars fan so im not 100% on when the story took place)

But then the 1980's Transformers movie came out and it took place in 2005. Then the 80's tv show came back the following eason taking place where the movie left off.

So what your saying is the transformers went from basicly Cars, Trucks, jets, etc... to animals and back again? That is what i have a hard time with.

Ah... no, but I can understand your confusion. Beast Wars (stay with me here) takes place both before and after the original Transformers series. Beast Wars starts off at least several hundred years after the Transformers era. But the ships go back in time and land on prehistoric Earth (where, as you may recall, the Autobots and Decepticons lay dormant). This leads to some pretty cool cameos and stories that intertwine the two generations. Beast Wars, according to most people, was the best made TF show as its writing was spectacular and gripping (for a kids show). Even if you're not big on the animals thing (neither am I, to be honest), it's worth watching. Especially Seasons 2&3.

Beast Machines is a sequel to Beast Wars and takes place when the heroes return to their time in the future. Unfortunately, the show lost the magic that Beast Wars had and general opinion is that it sucks (this is just opinion of course). Beast Machines is the last series in the general Transformers storyline.

Robots in Disguise, Energon, and the rest have their own continuities.

Hopefully that'll clear a few things up for you.   Wink

That does. Thank you very much. I appreciate the time and effort you put into explain that to me.
