...It was a good film though...
As far as actions films go. It was good in that respect.
It was fun, isn't that what's important about it? It had cars that turned into robots or vice versa, and it told a good story that kept me more than entertained throughout. I'm afriad I have to say that I pity the people who say that a modernisation of something has 'ruined the experience' for them. It's not like it erased the cartoons, which these days do look kinda tacky, (but that's just the 80's for you) and in honesty, I think it's a good idea to pump fresh blood into something that used to be good to keep it alive in some sense.
You know, Hitler tried to pump fresh blood into his county and people. But don't we all wish he had just stayed home and gotten stoned? I personally believe a very entertaining movie could have been made and would have been just as successful with out deviating from the original mythology.
Different generations have different views on what makes a good franchise. I'm not sure modern kids want to see big blocky cartoony characters running around with semi-unrealistic transformations. It might just be me, but people these days seem more cynical about stuff like that, and if takes away from the film-going experience, I would think that it's a bad thing.
Well your perfectly entitled to your opinion. I honesty think it's a good one and i have heard it on other message boards. My problem was that i don't feel the original mythology was given a chance. I honestly believe the original story could have been modernized with out taking anything away. If i where a betting man i would put my money on a 20 year old mythology rather then one mans 2 year old re-tooling of a story.
I don't see why you have to hate the movie with such relish, it deserved an award, special effects or music at least. Have you heard the score? It's brilliant. How much work must have gone into making those transformations so wonderfully realistic and convincing? if you think you could do a better job you go make a film and we'll see if yours is better, or if its just an out-dated view that modern cinematic patrons aren't interested in any more.
Well you have me at that sir. I have no film experience. I have no clue how the movie industry works. But one thing i can do is vote with my dollar. I will not be Purchasing this move on DVD and i will not be going to the theater to see the sequel. As a single person on the internet that's about all i can do. I can also hope that the renewed interest in the transformers will spark a new generation to go through and learn the mythology and correct the mistakes that where make in this film. Much like Batman Begins had done.
Sorry to rant, Nicap, this isn't directed solely at you, it just annoys me so much when people have the 'it ruined my childhood memories' view of something...
Your perfectly justified sir. I do not take it personally at all. I just have a believe that Micheal Bay could have made just as good of a movie based on the original mythology.
I'm not saying the transformers have to be cubed looking
(however if you look at one of the first posts in this thread you will see some very good cube looking Transformers test shots) I'm Not saying voices have to be change. But a damn Cube? Mode shifting? Sam (that was not even his name in the mythology) Witwicky? Scorponok? WTF.
