Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade the HD and RAM on my 15" 2.4Ghz MBP. Currently, it has 160GB 5400RPM HDD and 2GB PC5300 667Mhz RAM (2x1 GB).

Basically, I would like some advice on what gear I should get. RAM can be expanded to 4GB and needs to be PC5300 apparently (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270 - click "MacBook Pro ... Early 2008 and earlier" and then "memory specifications")

For the HD, I figured at least 250GB 7200 RPM would do, since I plan to also run Windows 7 on this, though just for a few games and applications. However, I was wondering what anyone's thought's on a Solid-State Drive would be at this point.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Get a 500 5400RPM. The 7200 will cause it to heat up a lot and will drain power faster. SSDs are very nice but still don't have the capacity of a hard drive and are still more expensive per gb.

Alright, I figured I would not be using an SSD. However, I would like the HD to be 7200RPM, just a personal preference. This laptop isn't exactly mobile, but when it is, there is always a power supply when necessary.

How would I go about installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on the new HD? Just insert the disk, format the HD to HFS and install?

Thanks very much for the help!
