Web developers trying to kill IE 6

all I gotta say is IE 6 does need to die. I understand there are cases where applications require IE 6, but an alternative can be installed and used along side IE 6 (such as FF or Chrome) thus solving that problem... but yeah... IE 6 = diaf...

I wish IE would die forever. Including the newest version. It really doesn't compare to either Firefox or Chrome.

I haven't tested pages to it yet, so I can't give a web developer's point of view for IE 8, but from people I know, they like IE 8, one of em despises FF now and prefers IE 8 or Chrome. For testing pages, I stick with FF and the IE Tab plugin. For web surfing (at home), Chrome <3.
Hell, I prefer Chrome's Inspector over Firebug, interface is cleaner and I can test Javascript, it also shows validity errors...
But, IE 6.... don't even build for it anymore, for some reason my boss can't have IE 6 along-side IE 7, so she stopped testing pages on it, and told me to do the same, which I have been... the only problem is, not everyone in the building has IE 7, some are still dealing with IE 6... and I never realized how bad it was until seeing a site I built get BUTCHERED because IE 6 doesn't understand the float property... (I was on the verge of tears inside... it was so bad...)

I started using IE 8 after I got my new desktop, but after about twenty minutes I had to download Firefox again...

IE6 has been under attack by web developers since IE7. ; )
And it may be just me but no matter what OS I use Firefox on it is slow. Safari on Mac and Win beat it. IE7 and 8 beat it. Konq beats it. Chrome beats it (when it's not crashing on Windows). Why do people use it? Also Safari is the ONLY browser I have that saves my passwords/usernames correctly.

The amazing amount of plugins and (to my knowledge) supports more of HTML 5 than the competitors.
<video> ftw!

That's kind of strange. Firefox has always been the most reliable browser for me. It also loads video content on most websites faster than other browsers. I don't know why though. 0_o

I've grown rather attached to the up-and-go loading of Chrome, where the basic delays of FF loading something have become a little frustrating at work, however, NOTHING compares to the delays of Frontpage, so I get over FF pretty fast.
FF has its quirks, and I've only really noticed it after using Chrome for months, but FF has improved immensely with 3.5...
I still prefer Chrome over FF though.

I prefer FF for it's customization... something I find Chrome sorely lacking. I don't really see how anyone could use IE 6 any more.

People that have it when they buy their computers and don't see the need in uprgrading, that makes up a part of the population. The others are corporations that have software that depend on IE 6 and will cost a shit-ton of money to upgrade to another version, but still, in that case,
someone made the suggestion
to install FF alongside and use IE 6 for the software and everything else use FF, makes a lot of sense.

IE6 should have been phased out awhile ago though, hell even with IE 7....
....too bad people are creatures of habit, right?

My dad was still using IE6 until I got him to start using Firefox. He refused to admit it was faster for quite a while. He is stubborn sometimes.

IE6 is still around mainly in corporate areas since they aren't willing to spend the cash to upgrade their intranets etc. Although with Windows 7 now RTM'd they are willing to upgrade their OS's to it (skipped Vista since it was sub-par imo.) and will start using IE8. Wahoo! They will finally have a decent browser in corporate circles... I hope.
Also plugins for FF? Why do you need to customize your browser? It does exactly what it needs to do already - load web pages. You don't need a built-in FTP client, HTML/CSS editor, xxx plugin for xxx site. There are standalone tools which do the job a lot better. And most of them are a waste of space and bloat FF.

Hey, you have to admit that Adblock Plus is really nice. I haven't seen a banner ad in forever because of it.

You have no idea how amazing the plugins are.
for example, at my job, I use Firebug at least once a day when designing a page. Why?
Example: I have two divs and they're not aligning properly, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong, looking through the HTML/CSS and I see nothing wrong. I open Firebug and dig through my HTML, hover over the HTML for one div and hover over the HTML for the other div, Firebug highlights the div's padding and margin, as well as the div content, thus I know whether or not the padding is large enough, and I can test and tweak until I have the divs aligned properly. Prior to Chrome's Inspector tool, without Firebug, I'd be shit outta luck.
Other plugins are the eye dropper tool, I need a color, and I really like this color on this site, but I don't know the hex code for it and I dont' want to go digging through the source file to find it, click on the eye dropper plugin on the bottom left and click on the color, and voila! the hex code shows up in the bottom toolbar alongside it.
The last one I use is purely out of my hatred with IE... IE-View, click the button, view the page in IE, click the button, view the page in FF. All it does is launch the page in IE. Sure, I could open IE, copy the URL, paste it in the address bar and load it, but I'm a lazy developer.
Why use proprietary when there are modifications that do the job and make it far simpler?
Also, I don't use an HTML/CSS editor inside FF (Firebug IS NOT an editor) nor a FTP client...
