I'm just wondering if anyone here happens to play Dungeons and Dragons? The reason I ask is you're all good folks for the most part and I'm trying to put a group together for a game. Just figured I'd ask. I'm totally new to the whole game and I'm trying to get in with the new 4th edition.

While I haven't played around (or even looked at for that matter) 4th edition, I did play a rather short game that used 3.5 set in the Forgotten Realms.  I've also played Iron Heroes and Dark Heresy.  For a starter I'd recommend Iron Heroes first.  It's a little easier with not as much background stuff to go through.  Of course, if your talking about running a game, you might want the fluff to draw from.

I like the fluff for most games, like in video games I'm not just furiously pressing X through all of the cinematics.

I'm not saying fluff is bad, but D&D tends to have excessive fluff.  This is largely because they have to make something up for you to buy the next book.

Yeah there are so many books...I guess they have to make money to keep the war machines in good repair and everything.

Back in high school me and a friend of mine managed to make a rather shortlived but fun adventure for few friends of ours. It was really hard work being a GM(my friend) so I helped him when he got overwhelmed by rules or our players' inpatient nature Smiley I still harbour a lot of fun memories from back then. I recently tried to acquaint myself with 4th edition but somehow it didn't grab me and I am very reluctant to give it more of my time...

I'm actually playing in a 4.0 campaign right now, and it's kinda fun.  The system is different, so it feels like back in high school where most of us didn't know the rules and just had a blast making shit up (And later figuring out how wrong it was, lol)  Some aspects of the new system are kinda cool, and others are just random, but I suppose I'll get used to them eventually.

4E is the one I've started with obviously and I like it, it's a blast to play and I had my first game not too long ago.
