I'm going to need a computer that can run Windows fairly soon, and I'd absolutely hate to get a PC unless I could not use a Mac with Boot Camp for my purposes.

Naturally, there are some things I'd like to know about Boot Camp.
First, were I to buy a new MacBook Pro, would it be able to fully support DirectX9? Note that I'm not looking for support for only "certain games" or the like.
Second, would it be able to run 3DS Max, Maya, and the Adobe Design Suite without incident?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Including DX10.

Windows and/or DX9/10 are hardware dependent. Boot Camp only does the partition, drivers and some other bits.

Also the NV drivers are really old and can be replaced with newer ones - 163.71 - the Boot Camp ones are something like 114.XX, I can't remember it precisely at the moment.

The GeForce 8600M GT blasts through EVERYTHING. BF2142, CoH, DoW:DC, C&C:TW. All of these ran better, in fact the graphics setting were either maxed out or at about 90%+, on my MacBook Pro than on my main desktop PC which usually only gets to about 60-70% of the graphical goodness. (see sig. for spec's of both)

On top of that, the MBP recently got reviewed as the best Vista gaming laptop around. Quite ironic, but it should tell you what you can expect.

Invincibility is absolute. Security is relative.

It doesn't make any sense, as far as the raw specifications are concerned. Apple must have done some black 'Woz' magic in the way they stuck all those discreet parts together.

Since apple made the shift over the Intel architecture worries over hardware compatibility have become moot. Fact is, today's Macs are internally identical to most pcs save for a few proprietary chips on the motherboard that OSX looks for.

In short to answer your question: as those games worked when I tried them then DX9 definitely works.
It's only dependant on your GPU whether or not DX9 works and as most Intel Mac's have a series 7 or 8 NVidia card or a 1X00 ATi card they should support DX9.

Has anyone tried Vista on their Intel Mac and tested DX10?
