Well, another Worldwide Developers Conference is upon us, with the much anticipated Steve Jobs Keynote tomorrow morning. Something a lot of folks may be wondering is what they’re going to announce: this is their flagship conference, and in the past they’ve proven to make some major announcements during the Keynote. Well, the folks who might actually know are all under very tight NDAs, but since I’m under no such obligation, I’m going to offer up some prognostications based on nothing more than a gut feeling and a familiarity with Apple’s products and history. Let’s see how many I manage to get right.

Let me be the first (on here, anyway) that the just announced MacBook Pro refresh is so sexy… a nice bump in graphics, able to carry 4gb of RAM (2gb standard), and the spiffy new backlit LED screens that we were seeing rumors of a few weeks ago.

So, who wants to buy me one for, uhh, “review” purposes?

[As a part of researching Delicious Monster for my last developer spotlight, I had the opportunity to chat with Wil Shipley, lead developer and founder of the company, and ask him a few questions. He's been gracious enough to allow me to post the interview here. If you find it useful, let us know, and we'll try to do more interviews in the future! -- Nabil]

It should come as no surprise that I, like many of my geeky brethren, am addicted to information. It doesn’t matter whether it’s movies, or music, or books, I absorb it like a sponge, and more often than not, prefer to keep it if I can. The problem, of course, is that as your collection gets larger, it becomes harder and harder to keep track of it all. If you’re the type who ever lends books or movies to friends, the process becomes frustratingly difficult. That’s where Delicious Library by Delicious Monster comes in. It’s a clean, professional application that makes managing your media a thousand times easier.

In perhaps the quintessential example of small, independent developers creating best-in-class applications on Mac OS X, today we’re going to look at Literature and Latte’s Scrivener. One of the most notable things about this particular developer is that Literature and Latte is not primarily a software developer — it’s actually just one person, who in turn is a writer. Scrivener came out of this individual’s desire for an application that did exactly what he wanted it to. The result is a top-notch, polished application that is responsive and remarkably easy to use.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has written an interesting essay, “Thoughts on Music“, in which he explains why Apple has refused to license its FairPlay DRM scheme, and calls out to the music industry to end copy protection. Jobs also points out that the vast amount of music on iPods is DRM-unencumbered, and argues that the 3% of music on iPods which is DRM-encumbered is hardly enough to lock users into the iPod platform.

It will be interesting to see the fallout from this essay, both from the music industry (which has recently shown signs of re-thinking DRM), and the European countries like Norway, which has declared Apple’s DRM illegal.

So for most Mac fans today is the pan-utlimate event, MacWorld. Steve Jobs keynote is scheduled for noon eastern time. There are so many rumors of iTV, iPhone, Leopard release, who knows what rumors he might dispel or confirm? Its really just a crap shoot, however, there are some people having fun with things. MacWorld Bingo is a pretty good time.

For actual coverage of the event MacRumors has set up a live feed, which I’m positive will get pummeled with traffic.

Well, if you’re let down by the Keynote its really our fault, there is so much hype surrounding this event its almost ridiculous. So don’t be disappointed, just enjoy.
