Exactly! I’m just wondering just how busy his schedule is! I mean, come on! I don’t think he has a girlfriend yet, so I assume he’d be doing things he enjoys in his spare time, and I’m pretty sure he isn’t doing this comic for money. What I’m getting at is that he probably doesn’t have much spare time ATM and that he needs to take a break at some point in the near future. In any case, I’m not expecting any new comics for at least the next 3 months. He should be finished with all of the immediately necessary stuff by then, gotten acclimated to his new surroundings, and have gotten into the groove of his new job. And that’s being optimistic.

I see it as a matter of professional behavior… If you can’t keep to your update schedual, don’t write a comic, or change the schedual. If you’re not doing it for pay, you have no obligation to write it, that’s true, but you should still have the personal decency to uphold whatever outline you’ve set for yourself as far as updates, and other functions. Mind you, I’d tell this to quite a few webcomic artists; but even if you don’t bring in an income, it still represents a part of your professional behavior, and as such you shouldn’t leave your readers out in the cold with something as indefinite as “when I get time.” Update it or cancel it, just be professional about whatever you do; dissapearing off the face of the earth is far from that :/

Comment by Lax

Agreed. I mean, we already saw the same shit with Scott from VG cats. You ask us to be sensible and considerate, yet you live us in the dark with no explanation on what’s going on. Yeah, you said you were working on a secret project, but informed us months after the updates stopped. And again to clarify, he did a guest comic last week at http://www.gutters.com, so wtf?! Says he can’t update this comic but can do somebody else?! You accepted this job (pay or no pay) with the responsibility to your readers/fans, so just a few words on what’s going on from time to time would be fine…

Comment by Matt

Make sure you complain to your politicians in the same manner. and to your parents for letting you down, and that guy across the street who said he would mow the lawn every wednesday at noon on the dot, but waited one day until 1230. Give the guy a break. Its hard starting a new job in a new state. You don’t know if something happened that he hasn’t said about yet. there could be difficulties. Just because you two are namby-pambies and think he OWES you something, doesn’t mean you’re right. Its his hobby. but it takes a while to get back in the groove when big life changes happen…

Comment by Lax
2011-01-27 00:01:20

Oh, shut up. If I wanted your opinion, Matt, I’ll ask for it. And all the people you’ve mentioned aren’t connected to the comic. Most politicians are liars and full of themselves; you don’t know anything about my parents, so shut up; I don’t care about the guy across the street, let him mow the damn lawn at 12:30, so shut up. And yes, I don’t know what happened to him, and that’s probably why he’s gonna tell us about it muuuuuuuuuuch later, which is too late. If he doesn’t want to be misunderstood, than he should warn us ahead of time. A lot comic makers forewarn and/or apologize for any delays, giving people a satisfactory post or two.

As for getting whacked, try talking like you talk in these forums to some people in real life and see if they’re willing to let you live. For your sake and those around you, both in the real world and online, please remove your head from your ass and stop bitching about a free webcomic made by the author on his spare time. He didnt disappear, he moved. Something that can take several months to truly finish. When I last moved it took almost a year for things to return to anything close to normal. Just wait it out, watch tv, play video games, go outside (it is mid 60’s where i am at). Just wait.

I’m not sure about the other two, but in the case of CAD, Tim makes quite a bit of money off of it. Sure it’s free to read online, but he makes money from merchandise, selling ad space, the cartoon, print comics and other ventures. It is his business so he makes it a point to keep up with his update schedule.

Applegeeks is not Hawk and Ananth’s main source of income, therefore it does not take priority when their real jobs or other life changes (such as moving) get in the way. It’s a hobby. I’m sure they will update it again eventually, just give them time. It’s not like there aren’t other comics you can read in the meantime.

Firstly madmax, your comment is awful. Applegeeks is a very successful and entertaining webcomic and deserves to be treated as such. Second, If I were you I wouldn’t go around insulting someone who clearly has more talent than you, who decided that instead of doing something productive and entertaining to others, chose to spend his time commenting on a site he does not enjoy, in a way others do not enjoy. Third, your earlier reference, “should do what everyone else said” is a complete and utter falsification. I never remember saying anything like that, nor would the majority of the many others “fans” who have commented.(fans used in quotations not to insinuate a metaphor, but instead to show that this site is successful and that your other earlier comment “CRAPPY COMIC!” is also, not surprisingly, false) In conclusion, you and your attempts to ruin the fanbase and future of this comic are, in effect, the “one leg man in a butt kicking contest!”

I don’t really feel Hawk owes anybody anything, fans or not (like the jackass who commented before me). He told us that he has responsibilities he needs to focus on, he warned us that it will take a long time before he can do anything AG related, it was all said and done a while ago. When it updates it will update and he will tell everybody. People are complaining about what was already warned about.

As for the gutters comic, it was just that quick comic (not even a comic, more of a one panel illustration), not a series.

Really Hawk can do whatever he wants, I’m patient.

You all entirely missed my point… I never said he owed us anything; in fact, the opposite; we aren’t paying him to do it, I was just criticizing the webcomic artist community in general for falling off their update schedual, and -then- blaming it on something IRL, rather than seeing a problem, realizing it would interfere, and announcing/compensating for it ahead of time. Seriously; stop attacking anyone who says anything against your precious web celebrities you goddamn suckups -.-

To those complaining… stuff happens then you die. If the comic stopped production for 6 months then you can complain. Till then read the archives or visit the other webcomics that are floating around on the net.

That having been said… If he wants to keep the community he built then he will have to start updating again at some point. If you put yourself out there and build upon it then you have to maintain it, otherwise people loose interest. If he relabels it a pet project then he can just update it once a year… Otherwise updating it more than once a year would be good… :P :) It’s his call. Either way I wish him the best. :)

I love this comic, love the work Hawk and Ananth have done over the years. If they lack the time to continue this for the time being then that is life. If they never find the time to continue with this then so be it, I wish them all the best and thank them for the many years of **FREE** hard work. Bah, if there is no updates at all, than this place will end up like a graveyard – with time, not even the most devoted fans will return to see the same old stuff. The purpose of an online comic is to update to whatever schedule the creator(s) have promised themselves and those around them. If they can’t, than it’s should be taken down. End of story.

I found this whole topic retarded. Im not even an AG reader or fan. However i do have a little respect for the work they put in and the time that it takes to create this work. What takes you a few minutes to read takes them hours to create. And then the slighest little hiccup and you damn them to hell and want to forsake them ?

As a comparsion, How often does a movie date get pushed, a CD release postponed, or a game put on the back burner, delayed etc. Do you run and forsake everything that those companies will produce ever again ? No you shut your month and lump as is life.

Hawk may have made a commiment to an online schedule update. However if his life has changed, then all for him. Especially if it is for the better. He owe’s you, me, and everyone else nothing for choosing to SHARE his passion with the world.

If you dont like, Stop saying you dont like it an leave. Exercise that good ol’ free will and save everyone else from the bitching that follows.

Two thoughts to share..
First – this is something they do in their spare time. If they don’t have time for it, then that is unfortunate. We, the fans, don’t pay their paychecks. They have to make decisions. Since they’re adults, we should respect those decisions.

Second – I would appreciate if there was something on the site that said what was up. I’ve been trying to find out why they are on hiatus and had to come into this forum for info. (I disbelieve in twitter on general principles.) As a request to the authors, if they read this: Could you please stick up something on the site? A label of “Real life intrudes – Applegeeks will continue!” would be great.

The thing is not just that they might not have had the chance to update, but also the utter lack of communication.

There’s nothing on the main page to say that they’re taking a hiatus – it took me, for example, a month or so to realize it. No filler comic, no note, no blog post – nothing. And the people commenting here get no response…

Never mind that for 2010, the comic’s had some 20 updates. Many of them one-liner comics with little bearing on the story. Taking a brief look at them, the storylines involved are “Eve starts painting” and “Hawk goes back in time”. For a comic that has claimed an update schedule of twice a week, this is a major cutback – it’s less than twice a month.

They tried to make up for it by running the AG Lites, but they were also mainly one-shots, or small, restricted, random, status-quo storylines – which makes it more confusing to see the things like the Marvel/Disney comic in the main section.

This is after the “darker” change to the comic, which was mostly all the main characters aside from Hawk and Eve being depressed, until Hawk’s return was summarized and put to rest in… all of three comics? before returning to the status quo from before the Japan trip.

Little communication, sporadic updates, no progression in the story, and apparent confusion about which direction it’s going in – it LOOKS to a lot of people like the comic’s rolling over and dying.

People come here to mention that it shouldn’t die, that they like it, etc., and… nothing?

Yeah, you know what, people are smart enough to understand that things come up. But it HAS been MONTHS since EITHER comic updated, with NO word on progress.

If the comic’s coming back, it would be nice to hear something.
If Hawk’s life is undergoing major problems right now, it would be nice to get some sort of update right now, and most people would understand.
If the comic can’t be brought back anytime soon, it would be nice to have them SAY it, and give an estimate on when it might.
If the comic can’t be brought back at any point in the forseeable future, but they WANT to come back to it, that too would be nice to know…
And if they’ve given up on it, they should probably say something.

But, nothing. Blank, empty space, and no sign of life.

Even if none of the posters here pay these guys anything… if someone promises to provide you with a free service, seems to do so for a while, but suddenly vanishes almost without a word, yeah, you’ve got a right to be a bit frustrated, and you’ve got a right to know what’s going on. Do you DESERVE the service, completely for free?
Hell, probably not. But it’s not about what’s deserved – it’s about what’s promised.

And in the end, the nay-sayers are 100% correct. The longer it takes for these two to even SAY SOMETHING to the fans that support their endeavor, and help them pay for the things they want by buying from the store, the more of their fans are going to leave.

It’s a trend that HAS been seen before on webcomics. When things like this happen with little communication, it often means that the comic is well and truly done.

Maybe there are some of you that will stick around and wait… and good for you, I sincerely hope your faith is proven right.
I just don’t believe it will be.

Well, this site can’t run without updates. There was a comic called “Knights of the White Rose” that stopped updating months ago. Last we knew there was a hurricane near the writer’s location, but that’s it. No other post, comic, or anything. The site is off-limits, check for yourselves http://kotwr.smackjeeves.com/comics/

It’s gonna happen here too if the only activity is coming from the users. Like I’ve said before, hobby or not they should at least give some info out about their situation, even if it’s a short one. Doesn’t matter how busy you are, if you don’t say anything than that’s showing how much the person(s) don’t care about their fans or their own creation(s). And if you disagree with me, than try and prove me wrong. Not with simple words of faith belief, but with solid evidence. Otherwise, shut up

I’ve been reading your comic since close to the beginnings and would be happy to donate if that’s what is causing the lack of updates / information.

Not to mention that Ananth has been around.

http://www.johnnywander.com/ – he’s been posting on there about twice a week.

He’s not the artist, of course, so he wouldn’t be the one to handle updates here, but he’s put down no new posts here either.

So DO they still care about this one?

I just don’t know.

A comment on a website not connected to this one is hardly the way to inform fans that the comic is going on a hiatus. Many fans, like me, do not check Hawk Studios and so have heard nothing since around Thanksgiving.

I love Applegeeks, I got into it through Megatokyo. I realise that the creators need their own time to do things and work out the kinks in their lives. I know this doesn’t get a lot of money for either of them. I have no issue with people going on hiatuses or taking time off. I do have a problem, however, with the complete lack of communication between us and them. Even worse when Ananth is updating his other website but says nothing on this website. That’s not fair.

We may not pay their stuff, but many of us do. As creators of this comic, they owe us some explanation on this website. You do not create something then abandon it without word. It’s not fair to the fans and it smacks of unprofessionality. Look at Megatokyo, Fred has had horrible news and he disappeared for a while, but he kept in contact via Twitter and Fredart, which have announcements on Megatokyo’s main website for all to see, without accessing Twitter or Fredart.

Hawk and Ananth need to realise that at some point they need to address their fans and explain what’s going on. It’s not fair to keep us in the dark and if they want to start this thing again, they’ll need fans. Fans who they are treating rather poorly right now.

Yeah, that’s what some people here (aka the loyal followers) can’t seem to understand. It’s not the lack of comic updates that’s the problem, but the complete silence from the author. First by telling us his special work project very late into the less updates and now when there’s no activity on the site, other then our complaints and musing. And yeah, fans deserve some attention to. You can’t simply ignore those who have followed every single page up to this point. *Sigh* I just wish the others would see from our point of view instead of calling us “selfish” and “egoistic”

Well, yes. If they’d said “we’re talking half a year off, Hawk is moving and we need time to set up things/rethink the script/whatever” that would have been fine. “BRB AFTER THE MOVE” and three months pass by with nothing… you kind of wonder.

Especially after the main comic was all but shut down for 4-panel black and white ones that are, for the most part, reused panels with different facial expressions.

Not begrudging the guy his time, because yeah, of course things happen.

I’m begrudging them the fact that they haven’t SAID anything. Just shows a lack of respect IMO.

We’re not entitled to anything from them, but they started this comic and put it on the web for other people to read… so it seems like kind of an about face when they gain a large following of readers and then suddenly just shut completely off.

Hawk has already stated he will get back to this and end it properly, it is only a matter of time. What you need to realize is that Hawk and Anath started this as a hobby while in college. Now that they are out of college they are growing up and focusing on developing a real career for their future. They need to take care of themselves befor they take care of their fans. So for all the ranters stop complaining and make your own comic and run it the way you think it should be done if you have such a problem. To Hawk and Anath I thank you for the time you spent on the more appreciative fans

“Hawk has already stated he will get back to this and end it properly” – when? Three months ago?

Despite both he and Ananth being active online, there hasn’t been a visible word about Applegeeks in quite some time.

A common trend with webcomics is that when things like this happen, the comic is over, or on its death throes.

Spritescape would be a good example – over the course of 6 years, it’s had 65 strips. To my surprise, when I checked on it now, it’s actually updated since I saw it last.

Still, here’s a good quote from the 64th strip – posted February 6th. Two thousand and TEN.

“This weekly update schedule seems to be working out fine for now. Granted, it’s only been two weeks, but the pace seems comfortable enough so far; neither too fast nor too slow. It gives me enough time to work on comics in advance, which is helpful considering my busy schedule nowadays. Consistency remains the key concept here.”

Not the first time the author’d said it.

With the 65th strip, which actually was, to the author’s credit, posted only two days ago, he links back to a post he made a MONTH before that, where he explains some of the reasons the comic wasn’t updated, but still says something along the lines of “I’m sure we can both expect better things for Spritescape in 2011″.

In this case, there’s also the consideration that the Lite comics have stopped. http://www.applegeeks.com/lite/index.php?aglitecomic=2010-11-19 is a good example of one which is nothing more than four panels, repeated, with the only differences being the word balloons and the facial expressions. Not being an artist myself, I can’t claim to know what the effort in those takes… yet I could crank out a pencil-shaded version of that in probably… an hour.

Obviously, Hawk doesn’t do pencil-and-paper work. Still… three months without a new one of these, and three months without a word in the comments/blog section?

Despite the fact that both are active online in different areas?

They’ve just lost interest. It’s pretty undeniable at this point.

It IS a shame – I do like the comic, and I have been wondering where it’s going – but it’s still undeniable.

I’ve never been on here saying “make more comics NAO”. I don’t pretend that my opinion on the effort they crank out that I enjoy for free is important. If they wanna stop… then they wanna stop. That’s perfectly fine.

I just think they should SAY something.

Comment by Moon
2011-02-24 03:08:10

Ok, people say they do this for free, sure but you also miss the fact they sell their comics in book form and shirts and buttons and hoodies. So they DID make a living off it to a certain degree. I miss the older artwork compared to the current ones, the older made it look more fun and appealing but now it looks so serious half of the time. *shrugs* I wish them both the best if this is truly the end of a great saga.

It isn’t about the money spent or the fact anybody “owes” anybody else anything. All it comes down to is some level of respect. Fans, as a community, read their comics, offered our support and, for some people, our money towards striving artists. We talked to them, we watched their comics unfold, and to some degree we should be offered at least a bone for the years of patronage given. It isn’t as if we’re yelling at them or acting disapproving of no comic being put up; we just wanted to be treated nicely. And simply vanishing for three months with no word (especially since Ananth is posting on his other site regularly) is disrespectful and .. not nice, really.

It would be like telling an old woman you’d help her mow her lawn and then not showing up. Yeah, sure, it isn’t like you OWED it to her. You are doing her a favor and you have no real obligation. But just not showing up? That’s just cold.

Comment by Lax

It is indeed about respect. It’s not just about no updates (at least 50% for me X)), but also about telling us where things are so we don’t misunderstand. Some people here tell us not to bitch and be so selfiswh, but as Dru put it we all want some level of respect. Actually, it’s a bit disappointing that they haven’t replied to any of this as of yet…

I’m glad they quit, cause the new style I agree is half assed and crappy! The older style was better. And you know what else is sad about this. Fred from Megatokyo has kids, and still is able to keep his comic going. AG was just a college kid who couldn’t hack it in the web comic business.

But I still respect them. Although I wouldn’t call him a “traitor.” I suppose AppleGeeks is a dead project to him. =/ Sad to say. But you know what, I started to read Johnny Wander as soon as I knew AppleGeeks became a lost cause…which was half a year ago. And I’ve recently started to read The Gutters. (Sohmer also does Least I Could Do, another good comic) As sad as AppleGeeks has died, I say good luck to the both of them in their current/future projects. “but we should take into account that they have lives and have full time jobs”

They’ve both been actively posting art, blogs, and comments on other sites. Their jobs and their lives clearly aren’t getting in the way of their free time.

That said, I’ll say yet again that if they wanted to stop the comic, that is their right. Plot kind of dropped once Hawk and Eve returned from Japan, the art started dropping not long after that, and then the updates were super erratic, so it’s not like this wasn’t obvious.

It’s the lack of professionalism – the lack of any news or comments about the state of this site – that irks me. They’re both obviously alive and not comatose, so even just a “Sorry, we’re going on hiatus for an undetermined time” would have been acceptable.

I can understand that ANYTHING could have happened to either or both of them that prevents them from being able to, or wanting to, work on the comic. That’s not a problem for me. But these guys built up the expectation that more updates would come, and then just vanished. That’s not cool.

That’s the real problem, they spent years making this excellent comic and universe and building up a fanbase and a community on the site, then ZIP. Abandoned. But, hey, hopefully Thanksgiving 2010 was nice!

All we need is a post on the main site saying “on hiatus until real life stops getting in the way.” Or for one of them to check in every month or two with an update or some new excuse. Don’t we deserve an excuse? I know this was all voluntary, and they’re completely within their rights to just stop without warning. But I thought this site was better than that. I thought there was respect here.

There’s no love here anymore.

Comment by Alex

You know it’s funny that you mention respect it just made me realize what the problem may be. If anyone can think back to when they first started slowing down, Anath and “Hawk”, both posted a blog stating for all the people to chill out and stop hasseling them. Where was there respect. I’m not saying one person or you or me or at fault but there were people who basically harrassed them. If I was in their shoes I would have been offended and may have taken the same action. I mean they took their free time to entertain us. If you want Applegeeks to come back I think you should all reach out to both Haque and Anath and apologize for the less loyal fanbase. With any luck they will find time to explain the situation and let us know when we may see them again here at applegeeks.

As has been pointed out repeatedly when those blog posts get mentioned, Hawk was explicit about carrying on with the updates, especially with the AG Lites. We all know they have busy lives; we all know that they may not exactly have the time to do the comic anymore, but the fact remains they haven’t said a thing.

We were told that updates would continue, if only sporadically, and that we would definitely get AG Lites. Well, we haven’t. Hawk is busy with his new job and moving, which does take a long time to settle down, but he still manages to whip out comics for Gutters, which are generally more detailed than the most recent AG comics. Ananth is also constantly pumping out new material for Johnny Wander. They obviously have some free time. Moreover, whether they have discussed it elsewhere is an irrelevance. As it stands, neither of them has had the decency to post an announcement on this website stating that they are giving up or going on hiatus. That’s just rude and unprofessional. Whether they like it or not, they have a responsibility to the fans to tell us if they are giving up on the comic, even for a short while, which they haven’t done and have just left us in the lurch. Many fans supported them by going to conventions, buying their merchandise and reading their comic and by ignoring this website, they’re throwing all that support back in their faces. It’s wrong and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

This is not about being a loyal fan. A loyal fan isn’t a fan who shuts up and says nothing when the creators are acting badly. A loyal fan isn’t some lapdog who will take anything that’s given with no respect in return. Ananth and Hawk are being disrespectful towards their fanbase right now, by saying absolutely nothing on this website. Wanting some answers does not make us bad fans. Some of the people commenting here have been commenting on this post for a long time. Obviously they are loyal as they keep on coming back and just because they are angry with how they are being treated does not make them bad or disloyal fans.

I say again, Hawk and Ananth are treating their fans awfully with this lack of contact or explanation. Whilst I am a huge fan of their work, it is really putting me off them as people. Maybe they feel under-appreciated, but I for one would appreciate them more if they showed us a little bit more respect.

Man, some of you guys are so convincing about stupid crap like how the fans “deserve” a continuation of a completely free service that it almost makes me wonder if you aren’t trolls. I especially like now how “respect” is thrown around like somehow they haven’t already mentioned numerous times that they’re busy with their real jobs and the comic, as a side project, always comes second in their life.

Considering the age of most webcomic readers though, especially those who care enough to post and even more so for trolls, I guess it is hard to imagine what an actual job must be like. I feel sorry for Hawk and Ananth. They’re busy with a real job and if they ever get the energy to waste on someone other than themselves, they’ll come here and see trolls and idiots complaining. It certainly would make me rethink posting here to reiterate what has already been said to a vocal minority just here to complain about their lack of free stuff.

Exactly. Reminds me of volunteering at the senior center. I used to help out these shambling corpses every Saturday for like two years before my car got a flat. Had to replace the rim and everything. I called up to let them know I was going to be a little late, but would still make it every other week. So I change my phone number right after, and took up bird watching on Saturdays. Now, six months later, there’s all these old people (the ones that didn’t croak/forget) that are mad at me! For volunteering! It’s not like they’re paying me. I doubt I’ll ever go back there again (but I promised them I would lol).

See, I think that’s trying a bit too hard for trolling. Forgetting how poorly the analogy was done, someone who would seriously consider volunteer work comparable to a silly little comic probably doesn’t have the IQ to even breathe by themselves, let alone read.

Goodness me that burns. You’ve caught me, I’m indeed an invalid, unable to plumb the rather shallow depths of my brain for basic unconscious functions. Well played though; nothing puts a lad in his place like a resounding, “ur analogy wus dum, but also, ur analogy wus sooooo dum”

It’s not like I was there out of medical necessity. I mostly played board games and helped them eat. Normally by eating the pudding cup.

Actually, Ananth hasn’t mentioned anything on the website about him being busy, and he is quite happily working on his other comic.

Hawk made a blog post back around Thanksgiving stating that he would continue updating sporadically the main comic and regularly AGL.

The stuff isn’t all free, as they still have merchandise for sale across the internet.

I’m sorry, but your post fails on the point it completely ignores that both of them are doing other comics and said that updates would continue in some form. If you can’t really understand that there are a lot of fans who are annoyed by being lied to, well, you’re an idiot.

Take a look at Fred Gallagher and his problems, and he still manages not only to update, if rarely, but also communicate with his fans. Hawk and Ananth have a responsibility to their fans, that’s part of the job they signed up for by making this comic. *shrugs* So what if some of us actually expect them to hold to their word? We are bad, bad people for it, I guess.

You guys can bash or defend…whichever you like…but I have to ask…when did anyone proclaiming to be Christian say anything about angering God? I’m sure people other than Christians have some of those same opinions. It seems that people think we need to turn everything into a debate about religion, race, sexual preference, or political agenda these days. It’s a damned webcomic people! I’m as upset as anybody…but all this bashing each other and calling out select groups that have nothing to do with it is bullshit….

I apologize if your religion of choice feels left out of the metaphor. Current weather events in my region and select loud, decidedly Christian, opinions on its cause fit too well. If you’d like, you could provide me a full list of the nuances of each crazy sect of each religion, and in the future I’ll try to incorporate them all instead of being concise. That way, when you don’t actually have anything meaningful to post, you don’t have to post at all :)

One year of no updates! Whooohoo!

Kind of tragic actually. Between AppleGeeks and MacHall there was some really epic web-comic awesomeness going on. At least when MacHall graduated to 3Panel Soul I could at least see a progression and keep in contact with a favourite artist and writer. Now with AppleGeeks it’s just a forgotten project where the artist posts on twitter all the time and the writer has moved onto an entirely different project and nothing is ever said as to what the fate of the old project is. *shrug*

I’ve been patient. I’ve attempted *rational* contact through various channels with Hawk without trying to be either an asshole or a ravening fanboy and still so no contact. Hell, I purchased some of his damned merchandise. Now, one year later, I’m deleting my bookmark and will no longer be returning.

RIP AppleGeeks 2003-2010

Probably the same reason you keep posting the same comment since July. Self-validation using the site and popularity of someone else.

Also note: The domain was set to expire on Dec 23, 2011. You may have noticed, the site is still up. That is because the domain has been renewed for another year. Until it expires, there is always hope it will return.

Based on the timing of the renewal, it looks like it may have been an auto-renewal. AppleGeeks and other sites Hawk runs is hosted by SoftLayer (formerly ThePlanet).

If you check out Hawk’s blog, he has done some drawings of Eve; that and his last big blog post on AppleGeeks would lead me to believe he still has an interest in doing what he said in that post: he loves doing AppleGeeks, doesn’t have a lot of time due to his new job, and wants to at least finish the current story arc. I do hope he finds some time to finish the current arc at least.

Comment by NeoDarklight
2012-02-24 00:13:22

Speaking of his work, he designs models based on geek culture like sci-fi shows and video games, right? Where can I see the stuff he made?

Also, I really hope he eventually finds time to finish the comic, though that statement has become so redundant and has been echoed so many times by so many people that it’s become truly ridiculous.

Came back here to see a shit storm of rage. I stopped reading around the time it stopped updating with any sort of consistency, so at least I didn’t have to catch up on much. I’m surprised that after a year people didn’t consider the fact that it might have been creative differences that killed the project. If you like doing something, that tends to be why you do it, and if you don’t like doing something, you won’t. As to those who believe the comic will start back up, I’d consider this: if you have content available online, especially a shop, why would you take it off-line? It doesn’t have to be an actively updated comic to be something people would spend money on. Still, I’m hardly bitter. It was a pretty fun comic, and I appreciate their efforts for as long as they lasted, and I’ve enjoyed Mr. Hawk’s work in gutters (which, if you’re curious as to why he did it, I’d guess that he got paid to.

YOU ARE ON THIS LIST APPLEGEEKS! I thought you should know.
here is the original link!-http://chrishanel.tumblr.com/post/19196576643/spread-the-word-updated
Spread the Word (UPDATED)

UPDATE 2: The app has been unpublished from the Android store.

UPDATE: Word has spread like crazy on this post, and I want to thank everyone for getting the word out. I’ve seen multiple authors on the list posting or tweeting that they’ve been notified. HOWEVER: The call for this post was to get word to webcomic creators to be able to handle the situation, NOT to have people contact the app developer. That’s why I didn’t link the app directly. I have no direct evidence that this guy is getting nastygrams, but I can guess from previous internet drama experience that the odds are better than not.

I’ll write a follow-up post shortly.

Do you support webcomics? Take this one question survey:

1. Do you take the RSS feed of over 90 webcomics, rip the images, put them in your Android app, and then put your own advertisements next to them in order to make money?

Congratulations: If you said “Yes”, then NO, YOU DO NOT SUPPORT WEBCOMICS.

There’s a thief- and he is a thief, let’s not be wimpy on that point- that has done exactly that, releasing his app in “Pro” and “Free” versions (wow, what a nice guy!) for people to read their favorite webcomics and earn him money. Somehow, this is not only okay, but apparently “supporting publishers for their efforts”. In other news, robbing a bank is “helping them gain exposure”.

The name of the app is DailyComix. I won’t be linking the app – no chance in hell – but if you are a fan of one of the below listed webcomics, please contact the creators and let them know that they are being stolen from and that a software dev has made the decision for them how their content is viewed. The developer has posted that they are honoring all requests to have strips removed (again, what a SWELL GUY!), and it’s my hope that the only webcomic left when we’re done getting the word around is his own.

Abandoning your comic without saying anything is a really shitty thing to do to your fans. If you’re done with the comic, that’s perfectly fine, but the least you can do for your fans is at least tell them you’re done with it, rather than just letting it hang, with no updates.

I cannot believe i just read most of those comments, you can really see the tensions rising as time presses on. You can even see the exact point where people become mindless fools spouting absolute garbage in the hopes that it will entice both a skilled writer and a talented artist back to wrap up a project they left mid way.

Ananth is busy, Hawk is busy… it sucks, but seriously people… chill out. If you want to get on to them about something of utter importance, there’s a myriad of ways to do so. Hawk may even find a little time to reply to a 3 word comment on Instagram. They’re far from dead, and not exactly hiding out, if you are a true fan then show some respect and stop whining. Maybe even purchase some goods, or back Ananth and Hawk’s other endeavors.

I think its safe to say we all miss your comic and the adventure it brought. The characters were well written and the story line was trippy. I believe some people have left harsh comments because they dont know how to deal with the loss they are feeling with any other means than rage. I would think that we all hope for you to finish or in the very least tie up the major loose ends in a few comics and call it a project. However you don’t really owe us anything. This was your project. You started it of your own accord and supplied it for free. You’ve stepped away from it for a few years now in the pursuit of a career. I myself miss your comic for the simple laughter it brought me when I read it. You created a wonderful world. Be proud of that.
