Hey guys! Recently, in what little spare time I get, I’ve been poking at Borderlands. It was a lot of fun till about Level 20, and then I suddenly got really bored. Did any of you experience that? I think I’d be way more into Borderlands if it were a persistent World of Warcraft style world where interaction with other people was a little more mandatory, or … something, to offset how repetitive it can get. Maybe it’s just not my kind of game …

I also recently picked this game up and have just hit level 30 but I am still enjoying it. Love the art style and it reminds me of Fallout 3 enough that I have almost stopped wishing they would make some more DLC for that game. Haven’t got around to trying co-op yet which is where it is really supposed to shine.
If you going to try multiplayer, make sure to do it with someone your already know. I tried playing it with randoms on a couple of occasions and they found a way to ruin the experience both times. But the game was really fun when I played with a couple of friends working as a team.
I have to second that never play borderlands online with random people. You will be pulling your hair out pretty quickly.
I agree with Twist, it is really made for co-op. Try finding some friends to play with and I think you might enjoy it more.
All i gotta say borderlands at a 4 person lan= clock at 8pm thne 5 minutes laters its 7pm the next day. It really shines co=op but gotta look out for loot hogs =/
Like others have said, the game becomes MUCH more fun if you play it with a few friends. I too got a bit bored around level 20, but then I played with 3 friends of mine and the game got fun again.
Yup. Playing with friends is a must.
to be honest I had moments where I got a little bored playing it on my own, then I remembered the game had the co-op or online features and it just boosted my love for it. I have completed it a couple of times and I find it to still be that much more enjoyable. Especially when the drops become better with each playthrough.
Well i enjoyed the game but i have only played co-op I did find that around the 20s it gets a little boring but the DLC for the zombie island is great! i did that around level 20 to brake up some of the repetition of the normal story and game. it was probably the best dlc i have ever gotten for a game i must say
Thanks guys! I’ll focus on the co-op then … I will say, I haven’t had a chance to go in with 3 other people, so maybe I’ll give that a shot.
Love the game. If you’re on Mac/PC and you want to, I’ll invite you to a session with me and my two friends.
Only one main problem with the game, it doesn’t keep a steady flow. I loved the start, it had alot of flavor, but it wore off in the middle. But, as everyone says, it is amazing in co-op. Just watch for those with the modded weapons, they take the fun out of the game.
My problem with it was sorta the opposite. While there may be a lull around level 20, there’s still stuff to do. What I wish, though, is that there was more depth to the world, so that if you felt like it, it would be just as much fun to go out killing bosses. Once you beat the game, you lose the feeling of progression, and it ends up hollow and pointless in the endgame.
Agreed, it’s a ton more fun with more people. If you play solo, I would argue that it is rather like WoW in that your motivation is to get better equipment – and queuing random heroics with complete strangers who say nary a word is pretty much as close to solo as you can get while still getting competitive gear.
As most people have already said co-op is huge for this game to make sure it stays fun and fresh. I have to say that my only real gripe with this game is that the online multiplayer doesn’t have a dedicated server and that the online matchmaking can be picky. The most fun my friends and I had was playing it over a LAN so if you can hook it up that would lead to the best experience :D
I’m so glad this game was nothing like WoW….God I hate WoW…
Well the can get repetitive if you play it by yourself but I wish some of the glitches would get patched up. Every so often the sky would start blinking almost uncontrollably. Being in your car after it explodes will cause you to spin around uncontrollably making it impossible to gain second wind by yourself. Once you find a good partner adding him/her to your friends list is a must. I’m a lv. 50 berserker on PSN, if anyone wants to team up you can find me under this name.
pretty much what most people said about the solo aspect was 100 percent spot on: it’s really a co-op based game.
That being said though, if you’ve got friends with you the game is a damned hoot all the time.
But maybe I’m just a sucker for cool art styles D:
Its the way it is at times single player is great for lvl up but co op is where its at.
@ Ananth
buy the dlc it will get youre mind off the game zombie island and all that give you like 6 skill points(3 dlc packs) that you can carry over so you power your charcter up but if you just want to lvl on the side the dlc is nice in this game for 10 bucks each.
It’s all about the co-op for borderlands. Right now I’ve got a 4 person group that we’re waiting for one person to finish his first playthrough so that the rest of us don’t rush ahead and ruin everything for him.
Probably by this time next week he’ll be done…Can’t wait!
I played to max level so far in borderlands, most of it was 2 person co-op and I really enjoyed most of it. However the game did have a few… Unpolished points. I would enjoy more people. However when you get 4 people some of the random encounters take forever and you can get bogged down just shooting stuff, granted that is always my favorite part of any gamme.
I had the exact same experience. It was great for a few days, then boring as hell.
At the very least work till the second playthrough. As odd as it seems, playing it again the second time around is way more fun. The difficulty curve is way more brutal, and requires a much better level of weapon choice and strategy to beat. Plus, the names of the enemies just gets more and more outrageous.
I’ll nth the coop suggestions, it really is where the game shines. Solo play can be a blast, just running around and slaughtering stuff, but it’s so much better with a friend or two or three.
As for the DLC, Zombie Island is fantastic. However, I personally balk at spending $10 on Mad Moxxi, which is really just a glorified storage locker. Everything else there seems a bit rushed and not nearly as awesome as Dr. Ned. Who, btw, is totally not Dr Zed and is really his brother and is not made up at all.
Sorry, didn’t mean to do a post as a personal reply. Just wanted to restate what others already sad before me :)
The only problem really with Online play today is that fact that just about everyone has a modded. gun. I used a modded SMG just to burn through the story cause my original hunters save got messed up but now it just sits on my bank character just in case i need it again. But yes it is far more fun with more people.
Borderlands sucked. I wish I had a better way to put it, but that’s about as blatant as I can get. I say box it back up and keep it sealed so you can maximize the discount you’ll get when you trade it in for L4D3.
I really enjoyed Borderlands. I’m level 50 and on my second playthrough. I think the main reason why I enjoyed it so much is because I got through most of the game playing with friends. Also, it’s been less than a month that I’ve been playing it, so maybe time is a factor as well?
I find that happens to me about every online game nowadays. After I reach Level 20 or 30 I just stop playing it. Either because of repetitive-ness or other flaws of the games that become noticeable the more you get into them.
Doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a good MMORPG every now and then though, I’m just not into it after a while…
Except Diablo 2, I leveled my guys all the way to Level 50-some and still didn’t get bored (until I found out being alone sucked.)
yes, it is definitely a multiplayer game, i have done the 1st zone 6 times with different friends an di love it but alone its kinda boring and can be difficult, sadly my friends never play it cuz of modern warfare 2, borderlands was released at a bad time lol
Been doing a lot of Borderlands with my brother, so been doing the coop from day one. With 2 people it’s good, the random encounters aren’t too full. 3, is about right, 4 they get a bit too big (but fun). It’s just a matter of finding people that you can play with that won’t ninja the loot or won’t just wander off and do their own thing. Had fun with me and my brother, and a friend of ours who was many levels below us. We power leveled him a bit, but it was funny to watch him (as a Brick) going and punching things for 2 pts of damage then needing to be revived.
The online games with random people can be a complete crap shoot, especially for the pc version. Since it needs some port forwarding done (if you use a router), most people don’t have it setup and you’ll find so many games with 3 empty slots that you just can’t join.
And finally, embarrassing note – Didn’t realize that you can do a second playthrough. So when my brother and I beat it, we made new characters. Oh well, second time around we had a better idea and had better weapons.
>moaning about repetitiveness
>wishes it were more like wow
you high brah
borderlands seems like it was released about right. if they came any later they’d be up against _rage_ which is, well, pretty much the same thing.
in a sense it’s a good thing to release against MW2 since the overall mechanics are more ARPG than FPS, so FPS fans are likely to be a little disappointed. the bulk of FPS players are going to be buying MW2 and the adventurous will dabble with borderlands, some of whom will stick.
My boyfriend bought this for me for Christmas for my laptop (so he doesn’t have to share the PS3 I bought him for Christmas). I haven’t yet installed it and played. Anything I Should be on the lookout for when I do?
