Some of you wanted to know what I thought about the game after I played it. Well, as you know I’m a huge fan of the first one. I think it’s a great multiplayer game and it makes you laugh while you play through the game. Because zombies make you laugh…right? After playing Left 4 Dead 2 last night, I felt there was something missing from the game that made the first one really good. I have yet to figure out what exactly is missing.

I haven’t played all the campaigns yet but the game seems a lot lighter, less scary than the first one. The scenes are a lot open, allowing you to explore further. Again, I haven’t played all the campaigns, so it could get a lot darker later on.

They added a lot more weapons. At first, the idea of using a bat, crowbar or katana sounded cool. However it got old pretty fast and I found myself switching to any gun I could find.

The zombies acted a bit weird in the game. I felt I wasn’t good enough to eat because they would attack my teammates first until I shot one of them in the ass for some attention. All I wanted was some zombie love. Sheesh.

Overall the game is good. But like most movie sequels, it’s not as good as the first. Of course, my views might change after tonight, tomorrow night and the night after.

What are your thoughts?

I will, most definitely, be playing Left 4 Dead 2 this week. I’m going to pick it up on Tuesday and it will be nonstop zombie killing time.

More Snapture news! Snapture’s been featured in the WSJ before – this new article is titled, “iPhone Apps Take Root as Cottage Industry”. If you scroll down, that’s my brother right in the middle of the photo, on the laptop. Too fucking cool!! I am pretty proud of him.

Some day I’ll have to write something about my experience working on that project, from start to finish … it’s a long story.

That made my night, and I wanted to share! You guys have a good one!

AG reader Nick Lomax dressed up as Captain Power for Halloween. Wicked Cool! I really like how the light reflection on the power symbol is causing somewhat a glow effect. He even has a cape and gloves!

I can finally retire and let Nick protect the city from….evil…bad..software users…yesss.

Nick, one day I would like to shake your hand.

Hey guys! Hope you had a Happy Halloween … hope it was extra spooky. ;) I saw Zombieland, which was great – cute, even, which isn’t a word you normally use to describe zombie movies. Definitely one of my two favorite zombie movies (the other being Shaun of the Dead). Yeah, I’m a casual zombie fan.

Speaking of zombies, I recently got to play through the L4D2 demo, and it is sweet. More weapons, more dynamic maps, more special infected — all things we knew were coming, but it’s nice to know that they all meshed pretty well. The new survivors are cool too — tough and brazen. There’s definitely a difference between the games as they’re advertised by their trailers – L4D was a zombie movie, but L4D2 definitely views more as an action movie than anything else. My big complaint about the new game is the sound design. Sound plays a huge role in the first game – it gives you hints as to what special infected is roaming around and so on. The sound in the new one blends into more of a cacophony, and it’s tough to pick out the sounds you need. Maybe it’s just a question of training the ear. Anyway, verdict on the demo is a definite thumbs up … can’t wait for the game to drop.

Finished Murakami’s A Wild Sheep Chase a few weeks ago, and reading through Rakesh Satyal’s Blue Boy at the recommendation of a longtime friend – it is alternately hilarious, tragic and hilariously tragic.

Comics-wise, I read Yotsuba&! Vol. 6 and … that might be it. I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to read comics lately, which is crazy talk! But Applegeeks ally Jamie Noguchi recently posted about an interview with Naoki Urasawa, and I’ve been watching and rewatching it. The guy is really something … my favorite quote comes when an interviewer asks, “Do the things you draw ever come out exactly as you see them in your head?” Urasawa pauses to think and then says (I’m paraphrasing), “Every once in a while, I can draw exactly what I see in my head. I like to think that for just a moment, the god of manga is resting on my right hand.”
