Hey guys and gals! It’s been tough updating between working on Volume 2, our regular Applegeeks updates, Johnny Wander updates, convention visits, and one or two other projects that I’ve been cranking on, so I figured a mass post here was appropriate.
Saw Star Trek! I know it’s blasphemy to say so, but as a young geek growing up, I never particularly cared for Star Trek! I liked Star Wars, and later on Firefly, because I like the idea of a ragtag band of miscreants making their way through space … Star Trek never grabbed me largely because it was too clean, I guess. ANYWAY – I loved the movie! I was actually waiting excitedly for Simon Pegg, and at first thought it was a bummer he only shows up halfway through the movie … I later revised that opinion when it became clear that he steals every scene he’s in! There’s obviously going to be a sequel, and I’ll be seeing it.
Oh, I’ve been thinking of doing that review thing I was doing a while ago. Here’s a list of stuff I’ve been reading lately, mostly comics – let me know if you’d like to hear about any of them: Empowered, Usagi Yojimbo (borrowed from Jamie Noguchi, thanks!), the latest volumes of Eden and Blade of the Immortal, Erika Moen’s DAR: A Super Girly Top Secret Comic Diary Volume 1, Fun Home, the latest volume of Octopus Pie, Kate Beaton’s first collection of comics, Last Call, Crogan’s Vengeance, Pluto, 20th Century Boys, the latest volume of Courtney Crumrin, umm … oh! I’ve been looking backwards too … lots of Tezuka, some Sanctuary (wanted to get clued in on Gekiga) and I’ve finally read some Rumiko Takahashi stuff (Maison Ikokku) … somehow I managed to miss all of it in my younger days. The reviews probably won’t be as comprehensive, but chime in and let me know!
