Here’s a little fun fact. This is what I original came up with for the old mac body.
After I drew it, I felt it was too clean and it didn’t really fit Old Mac.

Am I the only one that thought of Krang?
Krang is what I was going for.
That was totally my first thought as well. Ah, good memories.
Krang….. In one word I suddenly feel my age.
I didn’t notice till I saw the sketch, but as soon as I saw it my mind said, “Krang.”

The head seems to resemble the current shape of Hawk’s head.
I kinda like the this one, but of the two I prefer the one that made it in the comic, reminds me of Dog from half life
The new one reminds me of RoboCain aka Robocop 2.

This design would work better for a modern, sentient mac. It would be more concerned with a streamlined look. I greatly prefer the final version due to it’s hulking size. It seems more fitting for an old mac who wants to appear powerful and intimidating.
As for your tweet in response to it looking like the robot on CAD, that’s just crap. That could be said for any robot with a body that looks human. I think CAD’s robot looks like a clunky version of SCUD: the Disposable Assassin.
Got that Krang vibe goin’…I LIKE IT! But is he tricked out like the Iron Giant in Defense Mode? Old Mac (I still hear Morgan Freeman’s voice in my head whenever he talks) looks like it’ll take Magnus, Robot Fighter to take him down.

The first design makes me really see an old, crotchety man. kinda pot bellied but skinny at the same time and wandering around in his underwear.
While your art never ceases to impress, I feel it necessary to point out that the most recent AGLite is priceless!
I don’t know, the original drawing could suit Old Mac just fine. Just give it suspenders and a cane!

This design is really neat. I like the Krang idea… but that’s not what comes to mind. He reminds me of an old Captain America villian called Arnim Zola.
the current design reminds me of the Goliath robots from Laputa (a Miyazaki anime), though I couldn’t quite say why…
… maybe I’m mixing the look with the armored suits in Nausicaa, but its definitely very Ghibli in look.
Something tells me that the last text bubble in today’s comic is missing something.
The first thing I thought was “I’Robot” and by that I mean the robots described in the book. Not the movie. Old Macs robody has a nice old school scifi feel.
No body seems to have noticed in “Issue 523 – Miscalculation” the shadow being casted by the robot has a SQUARE head. Then in the last 2 issues the head is now round. ^_^
I don’t think anyone really cares either. Just putting that out there. Also it’s a robot constructed of mad science, these things rarely stay the shape they were originally designed to take, especially once activated.
