In few hours I’ll be heading to the airport. Ananth and I will be at MTAC this weekend. Last time we had a blast and I’m sure this weekend will be no different or even better.

We do have a table, so feel free to stop by and say hello. In fact, we’ll be showcasing the Applegeeks: Freshman Year Vol 1 book at our table. We’re not selling the book, only showcasing it. So if you want to take a look inside the book, you’re welcome to stop by and take a peek.

Applegeeks: Freshman year Vol 1

Hey guys! I recently received an e-mail from my buddy Evan about a photographer named Serge Giachetti. He’s a photographer documenting Native American youth. A lot of his work has to do with the culture gap of trying to hold onto the traditions of your heritage while growing up in the modern world, which is what originally piqued my interest – Hawk and I both are at that unusual crossroads of being born in America from parents hailing from abroad. What really locked in my interest, though, was Serge’s photography. It’s alternately telling, funny, surreal and occasionally haunting.

Well, Serge is trying to win the Name Your Dream Assignment contest, so I thought I’d share his work with you. If you have a moment and want to help out a talented photographer, please read below! Here’s an excerpt from the e-mail I got from him:

My dream photo assignment is to continue my project documenting native american youth: their adolescent struggles for independence as well as their participation in old tribal ways. I’d like to go beyond the typical media stereotypes of life on the reservation by taking a grounded look at the rich cultural renaissance thats going on amongst the youth.

All that you need to do to help me win is to vote for my project. It just takes a few clicks. Here’s how:

Follow this link to my Dream Assignment

1) Register– a couple basic questions. No spam will be delievered to your email as long as you don’t check the box

2) Find me– Go to the search area and type: ” Giachett ” . Select: Growing from the Root: A Youthful Renaissance of Native American Culture.

3) VOTE! — Click on the button ‘PIC IT’ below my number – 108 – on the top left hand side of the screen.

Please send this to as many people as you can. I need as much support as I can get.

Here’s a link to some of the work I’ve done so far on the Blackfoot Indian reservation.

Thanks so much for your help! We can do this!
