I’m gonna have to agree. I got it via Netflix this morning and watched it this afternoon. A couple of them were very cool, but none of them was stand-out-amazing.

This is pretty good. I like how they decided to use the same voice actors throughout the whole video. Fans of batman of the animated series ( back in the 90s ) will remember them voices.

Well, Conroy’s voice as Batman anyway. I didn’t recognize any other voices as being used previously in the Animated Series.

Will Freidle does a bunch of the voices in Gotham Knight - He was Terry McGuiness in Batman Beyond.

It’s good, lots of deep Bruce Wayne psychoanalyzing throughout a few of the shorts.

I was pretty disappointed by it. Seemed disjointed and I didn’t like the plots at all. However, to each their own. I just didn’t think it worked well at all.

The little voice inside your head? That’s your bad angel telling you that work can wait. He’s got the good one tied up somewhere so he can’t talk.

It was pretty good. I varied in liking different things about each short visually but the overall plots were nice. Much liked by me.

they got the original person who voiced Bruce Wayne back in the days of the old cartoon back to voice Bruce this time around.

Despite the fact that all six stories are supposed to tie into each other, I found it to be pretty disjointed. I ended up liking the last two and maybe half of the third one.

Also, I was disappointed with the voice acting. Yes, it’s Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman from the animated series), but something about his performance felt “off”. Later, I read a snippet that said “Knights” was his first time doing the voice work after the animation was completed. Prior to this, his voice had always been recorded first and then animation added to match his vocalizations. It definitely explains why it feels “canned”.

Yes, the animation is good and at least one of the stories is a little heart-wrenching, but I agree with what someone else said, it’s just not as good as the animatrix.

Also, (and I know it’s near blaspheme to say this) I have to disagree with the choice of using Kevin Conroy this time around. Don’t misunderstand, he will always be the definitive voice of Batman, but 1) if they’re just going to can his voice, then they’re under-utilizing his talent, 2) one consistent voice, used with different visual styles; rather than creating a unified whole, instead creates a disjointed feel, and 3) if they’re going to use Conroy (which again, he’s tops in my book), I’d rather just see a animated film that’s a throwback to the original animated series.

Just my two cents.

Have to agree with you. If you’re going to use Kevin Conroy, then why not do a Paul Dini/Bruce Timm movie? Actually… yes, that’s always the right answer. Do a Paul Dini/Bruce Timm movie.

But if you are going to do it anime-style, recording the voice after the animation, you might want to use an actor who has some experience in ADR. Someone like… Bale??

Give this woman a cigar.

Dini/Timm = the best storyteller/producer team.

I was thinking after watching it and seeing the horrible Cartoon Shitwork debut of Superman:Doomsday( the tv edit was so bad my eleven year old brother hated it!), they should’ve done a memorable Batman animated film like the Doomsday thing or the upcoming Teen Titans Judas Contract, they should’ve done Knightfall set in the Batman TAS (Bane breaks Batman’s back and they would introduce Azrael) orNo Man’s Land, or even to capatilize on the Joker with the Killing Joke, something. Gotham Knight was good though but could’ve been better, like a real direct follow-up from Begins to Dark Knight.

I have to agree completely. Conroy’s voice seemed very off in the segments, and having Paulson (amazing voice actor that he is) do one of the villains was quite disturbing. I had never thought about a Yakko Warner vs Batman fight before, but it kept popping into my mind after watching the first few segments.

It was nice to see some new views on the animation and design of Batman, and even Bruce Wayne, but it wasn’t enough to breathe real life into the movie. Pretty pictures are not everything, and, in this case, changing styles so frequently actually detracted from the viewing.

The stories themselves, as well, just disappointed me. They were all generic ‘Batman vs bad guy’ stories, with no real depth to them. Certainly nothing on par with ‘Heart of Ice’ or ‘Feat of Clay’.

In the end, I can only say that the movie is decent to rent, but not something I’d go out of my way to own. I’d rather just re watch old episodes of Batman: TAS, and enjoy the golden days instead of try to muddle through what they’re releasing now.

while still amazingly cool, it’s not as cool as I was hoping foor. The art was great across the board, but I did have some trouble with the one episode (I think it was field test) where Kevin Conroy’s voice is coming from of a very effeminate looking young man. The artwork was great, but it just didn’t feel like batman to me.

I was really impressed with it. The tone was perfect, and the pacing was great. Best part was the “Working Through Pain” segment.

I enjoyed it okay, although I couldn’t get into any of the art styles but the first. I’m just too used to the WB studio version of Batman from the 90s, I guess.

I liked it, the back cover description of the events which take place are fairly accurate in that some versions of Batman were very very new to the whole crime-fighting thing.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy it too much. I didn’t like the animation style for a few of the episodes, while some others were nice. I like that they had Conroy to do the voice, but in some episodes it really didn’t fit. I’m just glad I rented it instead of buying it.

Hey Hawk, how do you do your lineart/inking for your comics? I’m not very good at it, so I was looking for some tips. Do you use the pen tool in photoshop? Or do you free hand it?
