… is the lamest day of the week! But I hope you guys have a good one nonetheless.
It was Archer’s birthday yesterday! I met Archer in kindergarten, and we’ve been best friends since then … he had a little get together yesterday, and I attended, and it was a good time. His mom put together a photo album of his childhood, and it was a bit of a nostalgia trip. Yuko and I got him Sneakers: The Complete Collector’s Guide - he’s a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to the subject.
I’ve been playing FF Tactics: A2 recently, when I’m cooking or taking a break from moving, and I’m enjoying it. We’ve been honest and said quite a few times that we don’t play as many video games as some of our comics counterparts, and it’s true - but, like several comics series, there are some games series I gravitate towards. Tactics is one of them. I personally found Tactics Advance to be a little bit lackluster, but A2 is a happy step up in the right direction. A lot of the UI muddle has been cleared up - there’s such a plethora of information available to the player that good front-end organization of it is paramount, and it seems that A2 comes through in that regard. Lots of new classes and races to play with, too. If I can come up with one complaint off the top of my head, it’s, “What in the hell is the protagonist wearing?” Seriously, that is a stupid hat.

Okay so I had a few more complaints about the character design. Thank god for pixel graphics … I just pretend he looks cooler.
Yuko, Conrad and John are all moved in. The place is a bit messy and they’re in the process of buying new furniture and acquiring a TV, but it’s all come down to unpacking and rearranging, which means normal life can get back on track for all of us.

You’re right, at least Marche wore actual armour. This kid seems to be following the Tidus school of costuming by wearing as little in the way of a shirt as possible.
Oh well, I’m still gonna pick the game up when i get the chance.
I had a copy of the original Final Fantasy Tactics for PSX lying around, so I converted that into an iso for the homebrew PSX emulator for the PSP.
Far better than playing its newer…uh…cousins. The one with Marche was just too ridiculously easy. Not that I’d want the whole thing to be on par with Riovanes Castle [ugh, can you imagine?], but still. I’d like to at least struggle with a few levels, instead of walking through them all blindfolded.
The original is still my favorite by a longshot. :) I wish they’d make another one of these for a console.
They recently rereleased it for the PSP with no glitches and a few extra classes/characters. It was a good chance to replay it :)
Also, tell Conrad to call me! Maybe he’ll actually do it coming from someone else ;)
Ahaha, I passed the message along.
yeah i really wanna see a FFT 2 enough with the kiddyish advanced crap lets go back to the bloody war that was FFT and squar wasnt affraid to put any swear words in teir games.
I have a picture of Archer that is 1000 years old (4 is the new one thousand). He’s eating a calzone twice the size of his head.
It’s pretty classy.
Hahaha!
Man for a sec I thought that pic was of a chick. Kinda like looking at one of those M.C. Escher pics
biggest complaint (well besides the charachters look…. that almost convinced me not to buy the game) is the mp thing…. although i guess that also takes away some of the overpowerdness… but still… staring at dead flat 0?
Yeah, I noticed that … incredibly bizarre.
It makes sense, though, when you look at the previous 2 games. The first starts you with full MP, so you start out with the most powerful spells, yet you’re too far from enemies to usually use them. If you’re close, they move by the time the spells charge up. In FFT:A, there was no charge time and magic was instantaneous, meaning you’d start with the strongest spells and win easily.
So now, the “charge” element starts fresh with each battle, and grows at a regular rate. You can’t start with your strongest magic, but your mages are forced to “wait” while they get ready — and then can cast as soon as they’ve got enough MP.
So, it’s really no different than tying MP to CT in a more obvious way. Basic spells are less than the 10mp you get per turn, more powerful ones wait until turn 2, 3, etc. It takes away a lot of the randomness of the old CT system without being broken like FFT:A.
you clearly never used a calculator and or short charge nor looekd at the turn order page…
Yeah, FFTA2 falls victim to one of the RPG genre’s greatest curses. Stupid costume design. I kind of wish the old FF concept artist was still working with Square, maybe we’d get some more sensible costumes.
Dude. You can never have to many belts!
What if there were a point at which if you had enough belts you actually couldn’t stop your pants from falling down? As opposed to keeping them up? Like an inverse belt pants property?
Σ(2i)(i=0 -> n) - Σ(n^3)(i=-2 -> n)
Re: Costume: I think it’s just to see how far cosplayers will go. XD
If you like tactics Orge Battle is a pretty good game as well. Much better than tactics advance.
Tactics Orgy? Sounds like my kind of game …
You talking about the old Snes game?
Yeah, but there was also one on n64 which i heard was good as well.
there was a kinda meh one for the gba too
Tactics ogre on the GBA is much different from Ogre Battle for the Snes. The GBA one is more similar to fftactics while ogre battle is a strategy game. I was referring to Ogre Battle. My mistake in not including a comma in my original post might have led to some confusion. :P
Rofl to stupid hat comment looks like square-enix is borrowing ideas from nintendo since the main dude looks like he jacked the male shinnoh trainer to get it.
A couple other recent s/e ds rpgs ppl should buy are the world ends with you(awesome story needs sequal first legit new ip from s/e in awhile)
the remake of dragon quest 4
and the rerealse of chrono trigger
Awesome that they got moved in. Is Yuko going to pick Fallen back up once everyone is settled? I miss her comic so bad! I hope the glass etching I sent her survived their move :D
Fallen is on an indefinite hiatus! But we’ve got a neat little project in the works, so more Yuko comics are certainly on the way.
[Randall Munroe voice]
I like that hat.

i look at that picture and i just get pissed, idk why
FFT:A2’s official slogan should be “Fifty bucks says you can’t run while dressed like this”
That bag must be hanging down at his knees. How does he fight without tripping all the time? Must be the law of silly costumes: no matter how frivolous the accessory, it will not hinder the character’s movement at all, if not help them fight.
it is so adictive my brother beat it in a few days. he was on it non-stop and now he is re-playing it. Someone get him off this thing!! *tugs at big brother* *big brother bites me* GAAHHHHH!!!! :,o
This is why, in an RPG, it is important to have a cap on accessory slots.
You know, I was trying not to pick on the character design of the main kid. I tried to just dismiss it or ignore all the weirdness, but now that you’ve picked on him and said it out loud, I can’t help but see it EVERYTIME he’s on screen. Damnit!
at least no one said anything about him wearing a strapless uhm… shirt…thing… under his bright yellow overalls….. >.>
Hahaha, sorry Nancy. XD You digging it so far, though? I like it way better than the GBA one …
well it looks liek they took back the overly huge sword idea from FF7 and then used marios hat tried to put a kilt on him but decided it might look too much liek a skirt so put him in queer lookign overalls and said good ’nuff. and afterwards somone thought ‘how can you possibly carry al lthose potiosn ad miscilanious items into battle with no puches’ so they quickly had to draw on as many straps and puches as possible while keeping his other queer affects visable. i think this is one FF that i will not be getting >..>
Nomura has always given his characters bad design.
It’s either belts and zippers, or just a crapload of unnecessary added bull, or ridiculous hairstyles which defy the laws of gravity physics.
They’re good games. But the character designs are always overdone.
I made the mistake of purchasing the world will end with you and FFT:A2 at the same time and only having one DS…
Seriously, fuck Square-Enix
You just had to go and mention this game… Curses! Now I’m hooked!
Christ. You could pass that monstrosity off as a parody of J-RPG character design.
Haha, The thing that makes me laugh/question Luso’s outfit the most though, is that he’s wearing heels.
It really is a good game though.
