Hey guys! I’ve got a cool project to share with you, one that I’ve been a part of. My brother Ajay and his friends Bowei, Samir, and a couple of other folks have all been working day and night to develop a better photo app for the iPhone, and it’s finally been released! Snapture can be found at Snapture.org. The best part? It’s FREE. They ask for donations on their site, so if you want to throw a couple of bucks their way in appreciation of their hard work, I’m sure they’d be quite happy about that. :D
Snapture adds a lot of functionality to picture-taking that was remarkably overlooked in the iPhone’s stock camera app. With Snapture, you can now take photos by tapping anywhere on the screen or using the volume button, there’s a burst mode that allows you to take 3 photos in a row, you can save at multiple image sizes, there’s a timer mode and much more! Check out the full feature list, it’s impressive.
As for my part of the project, for the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on creating graphics for the app’s user interface. With Yuko’s help, we came up with what I’d like to think is a pretty slick visual style for the program - I’m quite happy with the end result. Take a look for yourself!
Pretty cool! There will be some tweaks in the next release (the perfectionist in me is already marking down improvements). I had a LOT of fun doing this - a big thank you to my brother Ajay and his crew for the opportunity! And CONGRATULATIONS - your hard work paid off, this is an awesome program! Looks good. Would probably find a bit of difficulty reading some of the text or seeing some of the icons according to what image you’ve got. Perhaps giving some of them an outline of sorts would help.
Kudos on the freeware app though. :) Now all I need is an iPhone…
Yeah, I’ve made a note to add a white edge to the top buttons - the timeframe made things very hectic this time around.
Are there plans to release it via the software channel of iTunes in June to eliminate the need to jailbreak?
If Apple lets official SDK developers write applications for the camera, then hopefully we can make it happen. But until then… the ball’s in their court

Release this through the Apps Store when it comes out! Otherwise it won’t be on my phone as I’m too ’straight’ to jailbreak again. I felt dirty.

Sweet. Much better than the “other” post-Camera app. Better feel to it. Long on the writing to the phone when the pic is taken, but that’s no problem. Being able to tap ANYWHERE is much better. It’s on my iPhone as THE camera app.

yeah, i check the giz a lot and couldn’t believe it after checking applegeeks not minutes before. and now it’s in wired too! mucho coverage man. talk about getting your app out there. between those two sites, you should be getting a good number of downloads now.

Don’t know if this is the right time/place to make a suggestion, but the thing I have always wanted from the iPhone camera app is the ability to easily and manually adjust the exposure. Since the zoom feature really does nothing but crop the image, I would suggest you replace that with an exposure bar.
I’ll pass it along! I think it may have something to do with the way the hardware is set up, but it’s truthfully not my realm of expertise.
